Silva, Kelly Cristiane da;
Horizontes Antropológicos , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-71832007000100010
Abstract: the article focus on the conflicts which took place in east timor in 2005, between the catholic church and the government, regarding the role of the religious teaching in the basic school curriculum. the analysis indicates that the debates built around this issue express different state-nation building projects for that country, so as disputes among different groups in relation to their roles in the independency process. we propose that the events should be understood as a product of the itinerary of certain sectors of the timorese people during the indonesian occupation of the territory. we point, that way, to the singular position of the counter-diasporas, former members of the diplomatic front, to whom the catholic church (self proclaimed as representative of the "insiders") now opposes. the protests also pointed to a still incipient debate on the building of a national memory, the catholic church claiming for a correct acknowledge, by the state, of its own role against the indonesian occupation.
Silva, Kelly Cristiane da;
Mana , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93132008000100006
Abstract: the article proposes that some of the key practices in the area of international cooperation for development can be better understood in terms of a gift regime. to this end, it compares ethnographic data relating to the modus operandi of the aid sector in east timor with the legacy of marcel mauss and the recent production of m.a.u.s.s.. international aid policies are shown to be important means for establishing hegemony in negotiation spaces in which different actors construct identities and relations of alliance, honour and precedence. in this debate, it is argued that east timor?s biggest countergift to the international community has been to function as an instrument through which values cherished by aid donors, expressed in western myths of good society, can once again be cultivated in the process of building a new nation state.
Silva, Kelly Cristiane da;
Revista Brasileira de Ciências Sociais , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-69092003000100010
Abstract: this paper discusses the events organized by brazilian state to celebrate the so called "500 years of brazil's discovery", between 1998 and 2000. it seeks to identify the ideologies found in these activities, which revealed the images of the nation. it shows that those activities were critical events for the brazilian nation-building process. taking for analysis documents, discourses, exhibitions, museums, and others, the paper suggests the rituals performed at those "celebrations" retake the brazilian myth of the "three races" and a kind of lusotropicalist ideal, making possible the reediting of the idea of a "racial democracy" by brazilian state.

The impact of cancer on the neural activity

Physics , 2015,
Abstract: We study the impact of the decrease in the neural population on the neuronal firing rate. We propose a cellular automaton model from cancerous growth in a brain tissue and the death of neurons due absence of cells that help support to neurons. We use this model to study how the firing rate changes when the neuronal networks is under different external stimuli and the cancerous cells have different proliferation rate. Our work shows that the cancer proliferation decreases the neuronal firing rate.

Abstract: the cns infection by hiv-1 in infancy could be present immediately after infection or became manifest later. microcephalia, mental retardation, pyramidal signs, humor and behavioral disorders and antiretroviral therapy complications are common. this is an observational, sectional and descriptive study about findings on neurological examination of 173 patients in a group of children and adolescents infected and exposed to hiv-1 in perinatal period. most of them had more than one neurological finding or different diagnosis. the more common findings were: encephalopathy, mental retardation, language delay, pyramidal signs, hyporreflexia. the neurological examination was abnormal in 67% of all patients even in sororeverters. we sugest that this group has a high risk to neurological disease and the development of co-morbidity is directly correlated to clinical deterioration by hiv-1 infection.
Chitosanase production by Paenibacillus ehimensis and its application for chitosan hydrolysis
Pagnoncelli, Maria Giovana Binder;Araújo, Nathália Kelly de;Silva, Nayane Macêdo Portela da;Assis, Cristiane Fernandes de;Rodrigues, Sueli;Macedo, Gorete Ribeiro de;
Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132010000600023
Abstract: the chitosanase production by paenibacillus ehimensis was studied in submerged cultures and the chitosan hydrolysis was evaluated by using these enzymes without purification. the bacterium produced inducibles enzymes after 12 h of growth in a culture medium containing 0.2% (w/v) of soluble chitosan as carbon source. the enzyme production was strongly repressed by the presence of glucose. the production started as soon as the available sugars finished in the culture medium. the maximum level of chitosanase activity was 500 u.l-1 at 36°c after 36 h incubation. the crude enzyme was optimally active at ph 6.0 and 55°c and in these conditions, the enzyme presented good stability (6 days). the enzyme without purification was used to hydrolyze the chitosan which resulted chitooligosaccharides between 20 and 30 min of reaction.

Revista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-06832008000700006
Abstract: the search for management systems that preserve or improve soil qualities, the mineralogical as well as the organic composition, with a view to higher yields, is becoming more and more intense. the objective this study was to qualitatively verify the mineralogical effects of different management types: conventional , minimum and no-tillage for 24 years on a red latosol in ponta grossa, pr, brazil, by the following techniques: x-ray diffraction, x-ray fluorescence and fourier transform infrared. no significant changes in the mineralogy of the red latosol were observed by the techniques applied, as a result of the different management types. it was however possible to qualitatively verify the presence of the following minerals: gibbsite, kaolinite, halloysite, montmorillonite, hematite, rutile, anatase, goethite and quartz.

Abstract: this research reports the case of a whippet female dog, 10 years old, with delayed union of left tibia and fibula, exposure of the fracture focus with localized infection, and extensive loss of, muscle, bone and skin after instability caused by two surgical interventions accomplished previously. a flap was made of the greater omentum in a single layer. the fracture site was reached through the subcutaneous tunnel and the coating by mesh skin grafts. the objective of this study was to evaluate the ability of the larger omentum to induce angiogenesis to the fracture site and the subsequent bone healing, considering the strong role of angiogenesis. the left tibia and fibula were stabilized with external circular fixator. after 80 days there was bone healing of the tibia around the support member and removal of the implant. postoperative complications included partial necrosis of the cutaneous (25%) flap and shortening of the tibia with consequent laxity ligament of the member.
