Evodiamine Inhibits the Proliferation of BGC-823 and SGC-7901 Cells by Inducing Cell Cycle Arrest and Apoptosis in Gastric Cancer  [PDF]

Abstract:
Gastric cancer represents a major cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Although various tactics and anti-tumor drugs have been used to improve curative effects, five-year survival rate of lung cancer patients remains poor. Evodiamine, a sophora alkaloid, has been demonstrated to exert antitumor effects on many types of cancer. However, the molecular mechanism of evodiamine against gastric cancer has not been clearly elucidated. In this study, we investigated the anti-tumor activity and the underlying mechanisms of EVO on gastric cancer cells, and found that it significantly inhibited the proliferation of BGC-823 and SGC-7901 cells by inducing cell cycle arrest at G2/M phase and cell apoptosis in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Its molecular mechanism may be that it reduces the expression of cell cycle- promoting protein Cdc25C and promotes the expression of cell cycle inhibitor p53, as well as prompts the activity of caspases pathways, such as the expression level of cleaved caspase-3 and cleaved caspase-8; cleaved caspase-9 and cleaved PARP-1 are up-regulated, treated with EVO (10 μM) at different points in time (0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 24 h). Collectively, our data demonstrated that EVO was a potential anti-tumor agent against gastric cancer.
Anti-Tumor Effect and Mechanism of Parthenolide in Gastric Cancer Cellline BGC-823  [PDF]

Abstract:
Objective: To study the anti-tumor effect and mechanism of parthenolide in gastric cancer cell BGC-823. Methods: The cck8 assay was used to detect the changes of BGC-823 cells viability after treatment with different con-centrations of parthenolide at different time points. The proliferation ability of BGC-823 cells was detected by clone formation assay. And the cell cycle and apoptosis were measured by flow cytometry. Meanwhile, to detect the different in intracellular ROS production levels, the fluorescence assay was used. And with the help of western blotting, cell cycle- and apoptosis-related protein expression can be detected. Results: Parthenolide could inhibit the viability of BGC-823 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner (P < 0.01). In BGC-823 cells exposed to parthenolide, the apoptosis rate was found significantly increased (P < 0.01), and the protein expression of cleaved-caspase3, cleaved-caspase8, and cleaved-caspase9 significantly increased (P < 0.01); the cell cycle was arrested at G1phase (P < 0.01); the protein levels of CyclinD1 and CyclinE1 decreased (P < 0.01), and the expression of P53 and P21 protein increased (P < 0.01); massive intracellular ROS generation was found (P < 0.01). Furthermore, the nuclear protein levels of c-Myc, E2F1, and NF-κB and the protein level of phosphorylated STAT3 decreased in BGC-823 cells exposed to parthenolide (P < 0.01). Conclusion: Parthenolide may inhibit the proliferation of BGC-823 cells and induce G1-phase cell cycle arrest and apoptosis via inhibiting STAT3-c-Myc-E2F1 axis.
Codon bias of influenza a viruses and their hosts  [PDF]

Abstract: The Influenza A virus remains an annual and worldwide health concern due to its fast evolutionary rate. There are two major forms of Influenza evolution: drift, caused by mutations, and shift, which results from the exchange of genetic information between two gene segments. Using six synonymous codon usage bias indexes (GC content, ENC, SCUO, Codon Volatility, RSCU, and Odds Ratio), this study revealed the evolutionary drift patterns in the Influenza A viruses of avian, human, and swine origins as well as those of their hosts. We found that the variation of GC content across the 11 genes in Influenza A uniquely determines the viral origins in avian, human, and swine hosts. As was previously noticed in the Flaviviridae virus, a codon’s RSCU value of the Influenza viruses is positively correlated to the Odds Ratio of the dinucleotides contained within that codon. Additionally, the RSCU values of avian, human, and swine viruses and their corresponding hosts are similar, which is also true of Odds Ratio. Furthermore, the GC content, ENC, SCUO, and Codon Volatility are similar across the avian, human, and swine hosts; however, the RSCU and Odds Ratio of the hosts are distinct. Our findings expanded the knowledge on codon bias of Influenza viruses and their hosts.
Critical slope gradient for compulsory abandonment of farmland on the hilly Loess Plateau

Abstract: Scientific evidence for the upper limit of farmland is proposed. Shallow gully erosion is one of erosion types distributed extensively on sloping farmland in the hilly regions of the Loess Plateau. Field observation and aerial photos interpretation, as well as laboratory experiments show that the shallow gully erosion occurring on the steeper farmland in the hilly regions of the Loess Plateau is an important factor leading to intensive erosion on slope, because of its extensive distribution and intensive runoff collection. The data on the formation, development and distribution of shallow gullies on sloping farmland indicate that critical slope gradient for shallow gully initiation ranges from 15 to 20 degrees with an average of 18.2 degrees. Therefore, it is suggested that critical slope gradient for compulsory abandonment of farmland on the hilly Loess Plateau should be kept within the critical slope gradient for shallow gully initiation to prevent shallow gully formation in order to control soil loss more effectively. But as the first step, the cultivation on the slopes with slope larger than 25 degrees where the maximum erosion occurs should be strictly forbidden.

An Improved Query Tree Anti-Collision Algorithm Using Collision Location

Abstract: In order to reduce the identification delay and the energy consumption of the Query Tree Anti-collision Algorithm, the disadvantage of the current query tree anti-collision algorithms is analyzed and an improved query tree anti-collision algorithm is proposed, which is called collision Location based Hybrid Query Tree (LHQT) algorithm. In the algorithm, Manchester code is used and collision location is detected when a collision occurs. Then collision location is used to update quickly and accurately the query prefix in Query Tree (QT) algorithm and Hybrid Query Tree (HQT) Algorithm. Theoretical analysis and simulation show that the proposed algorithm can efficiently decrease the identification cycles and transmitted bits, which reduce the identification delay and the energy consumption.

Abstract: Este artículo tiene como finalidad presentar elementos que impulsaron el período económico en América Latina, conocido como “sustitución de la Importación”, ocurrido en el inicio del siglo XX. Describir las causas históricas de este período, exponer las características y analizar sus efectos. Así como podría decirse que América Latina posee elementos similares en su base, se distinguen los diferentes países por su formación cultural, geográfica y composición étnica. En este ensayo se utilizará dos países – Brasil y México - para ejemplificar algunas de las causas o impactos de las ideas presentadas. La exposición se articulará alrededor de un factor llave que es la heterogeneidad estructural que a su vez refleja la diversidad de formas de la producción. O sea, la identificación de un sector atrasado y un sector moderno en los países periféricos que dan origen a estudios tanto económicos como sociales, problemas estos, que tienen una base compleja. Otro concepto utilizado será el de centro-periferia. Este es un modelo de organización territorial de ciertos sistemas económicos y políticos que ocupa un lugar central en la escuela económica estructuralista en la cual la dualidad centro-periferia está directamente relacionada con la dualidad industriaagricultura y su distribución mundial de acuerdo a determinados sistemas de división internacional del trabajo. El término centro-periferia se refiere a las desigualdades sociales y económicas y a su igual distribución espacial. Se usa en el sentido de países centrales y otros periféricos, con significado similar a otras dualidades de uso habitual, como norte-sur, mundo desarrollado o subdesarrollado.Perneará el texto dos elementos teóricos la existencia y reproducción de altos niveles de concentración de la renta, factor éste determinado por la estructura política. Así como la utilización del capital extranjero para la formación de las industrias nacionales.
Some properties of generalized reduced Verma modules over $\mathbb{Z}$-graded modular Lie superalgebras

Abstract: This paper is primarily concerned with generalized reduced Verma modules over $\mathbb{Z}$-graded modular Lie superalgebras. Some properties of the generalized reduced Verma modules and the coinduced modules are obtained. Moreover, the invariant forms on the generalized reduced Verma modules are considered. In particular, we prove that the generalized reduced Verma module is isomorphic to the mixed product for modules of $\mathbb{Z}$-graded modular Lie superalgebras of Cartan type.

Abstract: This paper is primarily concerned with the first cohomology of $\frak{gl}_{0|2}$ with coefficients in the generalized Witt Lie superalgebra, where $\frak{gl}_{0|2}$ is a subalgebra of the general linear Lie superalgebra. The derivations and inner derivations from $\frak{gl}_{0|2}$ into submodules of the generalized Witt Lie superalgebra are represented by matrices, respectively. Then the first cohomology of $\frak{gl}_{0|2}$ with coefficients in the generalized Witt Lie superalgebra is completely determined by matrices.
