Efeito do uso do traje de neoprene sobre variáveis técnicas, fisiológicas e perceptivas de nadadores

Abstract: in open water swimming competitions, athletes are prone to environmental conditions and are frequently exposed to low temperatures, in contrast to what occurs in indoor competitions. in some circumstances the use of special swimming suits is allowed to avoid hypothermia. the aim of this study was to verify the effects of the use of a neoprene swimming suit in comparison to a conventional swimming suit on a number of cinematic and psychophysiological variables. twenty athletes experienced in swimming competitions (12 triathletes and 8 swimmers; 22.0± 6.6 yearsold), whose the performance was 75 ± 7.7% of the national record. athletes performed two maximal and two submaximal 400m crawl simulated competition with a whole body neoprene swimming suit and with a conventional swimming suit. mean speed (vm) stroke length (cb), stroke frequency (fb), swimming index (in), rate of perceived effort (pse), heart rate, and blood lactate concentration (lac) were compared between conditions. the time to perform maximal trials with the use of the neoprene swimming suit was 6.4% shorter than when wearing the traditional swimming suit. fb and the psychophysiological variables remained unchanged, while cb increased in response to the use of the neoprene swimming suit. the use of the neoprene swimming suit in submaximal trials provided smaller fb, fc, lac and pse and larger cb and in in comparison to the use of the traditional swimming suit. the results indicated that the neoprene swimming suit increases performance in biomechanical, physiological and perceptive aspects. the vm increase in maximal efforts does not depend exclusively on changes in fb and cb. possibly, increments of the parameters related to the swimming may have improved the mechanical efficiency of the movement, which may have provided a movement economy that resulted in a better performance.

Abstract: Considerados do ponto de vista da teoria literária, os textos filosóficos que tratam explicitamente da política caem sobretudo sob os gêneros do tratado e do ensaio, mas, indiretamente, a teoria política sofre a influência das utopias, literárias ou experimentadas de fato. A validade de um tratado – e certamente também da enviesada crítica da economia política – depende do método que o sustenta, ao passo que no ensaio pesam as credenciais daquele que emite uma opini o. Por fim, cabe questionar o que significa o requisito da verdade nos textos utópicos, que variam da nostalgia ao sonho: o passado seria objeto da cronologia, que averiguaria a ocorrência de ilhas e paraísos, mas é muito difícil avaliar enunciados contrafatuais e sobre eventos futuros. A literatura sabe lidar com a fic o, enquanto a filosofia quer salvar pelo menos a crítica da pólis em seu momento presente.
THE PHYSICAL SPACE OF THE PUBLIC OPINION: NOTES ON JOURNALISM AND ARCHITECTURE

Abstract: In 2012 we are expected to remember and celebrate the fifty years anniversary of the book Strukturwandel der ffentlichkeit. In the following paper we aim to join some arguments in order to explain the reasons of the academic and editorial success of this text, published in Germany, in 1962, and we thereby want to assume that “public sphere” is the central theme and Leitmotiv of the entire intellectual work of its author, Jürgen Habermas. We will then make some considerations about the history of journalism and public opinion in Brazil in nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and beside this we are going to examine how the concept of “public sphere” (or public space) has been accepted in different theory fields such as mass communication studies and architecture. Finally, based on some experiences and reflections on urban interventions, we would like to propose a return to the “physical space” of public sphere and, by doing that, we also bring back some original critical ideas from Oskar Negt and Alexander Kluge, concerning their research on “ ffentlichkeit” as a general concept that should also include the proletarian public sphere. Ao comemorarmos os cinqüenta anos de publica o de Mudan a estrutural da esfera pública (1962), reunimos neste artigo alguns argumentos que podem ajudar a explicar seu sucesso editorial, bem como o papel de fio condutor que a categoria “esfera pública” viria a ter para a obra posterior de seu autor, Jürgen Habermas. Em seguida, s o feitas considera es sobre a história do jornalismo na sociedade brasileira dos séculos XIX e XX, além de dedicarmos uma se o para acompanhar a apropria o do conceito “esfera pública” (ou espa o público) nos campos da comunica o e da arquitetura. Por fim, em torno de experiências de interven es urbanas anticapitalistas e com base na obra dos teóricos críticos Oskar Negt e Alexander Kluge, proporemos um retorno ao componente físico, a vida no ambiente urbano, com conseqüências para a participa o política e a forma de governo.

A “ciência da experiência da consciência” e o romance de forma o surgem quando as condi es históricas levaram a literatura e a filosofia a dar aten o à cultura e ao cultivo da identidade do herói por ele mesmo. Goethe e Hegel convergem em duas grandes obras, muito próximas em diversos aspectos. Este artigo apresenta a Fenomenologia do espírito como um exemplo de Bildungsroman estilizado. Abstract: taken from concrete examples gathered over two years of study on the health of teachers, this article proposes a discussion about the strategies that teachers create to face the adversities of everyday school life. with the use of concepts of health and psychodynamics of work, we try to reflect on how teachers deal with adversities such as learning difficulties, the undisciplined behavior of students, the lack of teaching resources, and the teachers fatigue or unwillingness to teach the classes. these strategies - known as coping and escape strategies - which would apparently enhance learning, are also activities that reduce the teacher's burnout, which leads to the trivialization of the educational process.

Abstract: Este artigo apresenta dados coletados em nossa pesquisa de doutorado. Temos por objetivo refletir sobre o quadro referente à forma o dos professores que ministram a disciplina de física no Ensino Médio. Analisamos dados do Mec/Inep sobre a forma o dos professores que ministram a disciplina de física no Brasil e do Censo Escolar da Educa o Básica. Constatamos que os professores que ministram a disciplina de física no Ensino Médio s o, na maioria, licenciados em matemática; e, levando em considera o autores que discutem a forma o de professores, analisamos as ementas das disciplinas de física, bem como sua carga horária e os conteúdos ministrados em 27 cursos de licenciatura em matemática de institui es de Ensino Superior. Concluímos que os dados s o preocupantes, pois, além de serem poucos os professores com forma o específica na área de física, os demais docentes que ministram esta disciplina n o têm forma o adequada para atuar nessa área do conhecimento. This article presents collected data from our doctoral research; we aim to reflect on the scenario for the training of teachers who teach the discipline of Physics in high school. We analyzed data from Mec/Inep on the training of teachers who teach the discipline of Physics in Brazil and in the Basic Education School Census. We noted that teachers who teach the discipline of Physics in high school have mostly majored in Math and, taking this into consideration the authors discuss the teachers' training. We noted the menus of the disciplines of Physics, as well as its workload and the subjects taught in 27 undergraduate programs in Mathematics from higher education institutions. We concluded that the data are worrying because, besides there being only a few teachers with specific training in Physics, the other teachers who teach this subject do not have adequate training to teach in this area of knowledge.

Abstract: introduction: coronary computed tomographic angiography (ccta) has been widely accepted as a non-invasive diagnostic tool for coronary artery disease (cad). the objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of ccta and its influence on modification of percutaneous revascularization strategies. method: the study included two groups of patients: a main group (mg), including 100 patients screened with a suspect of severe cad by ccta and indication for coronary cineangiography (cine), and a control group (cg) for comparison, including 100 patients selected during the same period, with indication for cine according to clinical criteria or by positive functional tests. we evaluated the performance of ccta for the diagnosis of lesions > 50% in coronary segments, arteries and patients and the revascularization strategies adopted. results: the sensitivity, specificity and positive and negative predictive values of ccta were 86%, 95%, 71% and 100% for the coronary segments, 91%, 92%, 80% and 100% for the coronary arteries and 100%, 90%, 100% and 100% for patients, respectively. in the mg, percutaneous coronary intervention (pci) was performed in 90% of the patients, whereas in the cg, percutaneous coronary intervention was performed in 43% of the patients (p = 0.01). conclusion: ccta had a high diagnostic performance in detecting cad and allowed ad hoc pci to be performed in 90% of the patients. this strategy, however, must await randomized studies to confirm these results.

Abstract: background:percutaneous coronary intervention (pci) in ostial lesions is one of the major challenges for contemporary interventional cardiology. despite the technological advances, ostial lesions still present a higher rate of immediate and late adverse events when compared to non-ostial lesions. the objective of this study was to evaluate coronary ostial lesions treated with the szabo technique. methods: series of 10 patients, included between october and november 2011, treated by pci using the szabo technique to treat ostial lesions in main coronary arteries. aorto-ostial lesions were excluded. results: of the 10 patients treated, 7 were male, with ages ranging from 42 to 75 years and 60% had acute coronary syndromes without st-segment elevation. the circumflex artery was treated in 6 patients and a 7 f catheter was used in 8 patients. in 3 patients, during the advancement of the stent to the lesion, both guidewires twisted, which was solved by partially retrieving the standard target vessel wire and positioning it again. procedural success was observed in 90% of the cases. there were no hospital deaths, (re)infarctions or emergency revascularizations. conclusions: in this study, the szabo technique successfully treated ostial lesions in main coronary arteries, providing adequate positioning of the stent in most of the cases.

Abstract: background: preliminary data have shown the firebird? and the cypher? stents have similar safety and efficacy profiles. however, to date, no study has evaluated the percutaneous coronary intervention (pci) with the firebird? stent in diabetic patients. methods: the performance of the firebird? stent in diabetic patients with multivessel coronary artery disease (cad) (n = 100) was compared to that of the cypher? stent, using historical data from the arts-ii study (n = 159). we compared the major adverse cardiovascular events (mace) at one year. results: most of the patients in the firebird? group were male (65%), with mean age of 63.3 ± 10.4 years and 5% were receiving insulin. stable coronary syndromes were prevalent (60%), 45% had three-vessel cad and ventricular function was preserved (56.6 ± 13.7%). in patients with three-vessel cad, 135 lesions were treated with > 3 stents in 78% of the cases and 2 stents in the remaining ones. in patients with two-vessel cad, 110 lesions were treated with > 2 stents in 80% of the cases and 1 stent in the remaining ones. the incidence of mace at one year of the firebird? stent was 21%, death was observed in 3% of the patients, myocardial infarction in 2% and a new revascularization procedure in 18%, predominantly at the expense of a new pci in 14% of the cases. comparison with the cypher? group did not show differences for any of the evaluated endpoints. conclusions: in our study, the use of the firebird? stent showed similar results to those of patients in the arts-ii study, which makes it attractive for use in the complex scenario of diabetic patients with multivessel cad.

Abstract: New technological advances have been challenging professionals in education area to reach the new generation of students. Since this new generation is surrounded by this new technology, it is mandatory to associate new practices and teaching methods to their education plan. In this way, educators must reflect not only on their usual pedagogical practices but also in the efficacy of the method that has been practiced in the teaching and learning process. Technical Drawing is a discipline that takes place in High School programs in addition to Technical and Higher Education. It is directly influenced by this technological advance, once the student goes from the draw in the paper to the draw in computers during the classes and is encouraged to execute the projects that arise from the step-by-step draw. In this context, this work aimed to show a study performed during the Technical Drawing discipline to report a new structure in the educational methodology related to project-based learning. The focus of this study was to encourage students to develop a greater interest in engineering using project based learning and use this as a method for learning.
