Abstract: Se estudia el desarrollo del cuerpo fructífero del hongo Pleurotus djamor en residuos de plátano (Musa Paradisíaca) y aserrín de abarco (Cariniana pyriformis) en diferentes mezclas así: Aserrín (100%), Hojas (100%), Tallo (100%), Aserrín-Hoja (50/50%), Aserrín-Tallo (50/50%), Aserrín-Fruto (50/50%), y una mezcla final de Aserrín-Hojas-Tallo y Fruto (25/25/25/25). Zootecnia Tropical , 2010,
Abstract: in the present study the igm and igg humoral response was analyzed and compared between mexican creole pigs (cuino pig and mexican hairless pig) and commercial pigs (cp) f1 yorkshire-landrace, to establish differences that allowed to use them like indicator of resistance to disease. seventy six weanling pigs to the 45 days of age without vaccination were included. a blood sample was obtained at weaning to evaluate the igm and igg antibody level to the bovine pig mixed bacterin, contains stocks of salmonella, escherichia coli and pasteurella, by elisa. the sonicated bacterin was used to sensitize plates. the igm anti-bacterin levels were higher in mexican haerless pig (mhp) that in the other breeds (p<0,0001). no differences in the igg anti bacterin levels between cuino pigs (cc) and mhp were found, nevertheless both creole breeds were different that the cp (p<0,0001), who showed a lower antibody response. our results show that mhp and cc have both a better humoral response to salmonella, escherichia coli and pasteurella than cp.
Evaluación económica de programas y servicios de salud
Mejía Mejía,Aurelio;
Revista Gerencia y Políticas de Salud , 2008,
Abstract: the gap between what medicine can do and what it is economically feasible to do makes more relevant the economic evaluation of health care programmes as a tool that makes explicit what otherwise would be implicit and informs decision makers about the health impact and resource use of different health programmes, which may offer society a better understanding of political process and resource allocation. this article shows the steps in an economic evaluation in health. also, some methodological issues are discussed.
Shear bond strength of acetone-based one-bottle adhesive systems
Lopes, Guilherme Carpena;Cardoso, Paula C.;Vieira, Luiz Clovis Cardoso;Baratieri, Luiz N.;Rampinelli, Karina;Costa, Gisele;
Brazilian Dental Journal , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-64402006000100009
Abstract: the aim of this study was to assess the shear bond strength of four acetone-based one-bottle adhesive systems to enamel and dentin, and compare to that of an ethanol-based system used as control. fifty human molars were bisected mesiodistally and the buccal and lingual surfaces were embedded in acrylic resin using pvc cylinders. the buccal surfaces were ground to obtain flat dentin surfaces, while the lingual surfaces were ground to obtain flat enamel surfaces. all specimens were polished up to 600-grit sandpapers and randomly assigned to 5 groups (n=20; 10 dentin specimens and 10 enamel specimens), according to the adhesive system used: one-step (bisco); gluma one bond (heraeus kulzer); solobond m (voco); tenurequik w/f (den-mat) and optibond solo plus (kerr) (control). each adhesive system was applied according to the manufacturers' instructions. the respective proprietary hybrid composite was applied in a gelatin capsule (d=4.3mm) and light-cured for 40 s. the specimens were tested in shear strength with an instron machine at a crosshead speed of 5 mm/min. bond strengths means were analyzed statistically by one-way anova and duncan's post-hoc (p£0.05). shear bond strength means (mpa) (±sd) to enamel and dentin were: enamel: one-step=11.3(±4.9); gluma one bond=16.3(±10.1); solobond m=18.9(±4.5); tenurequik w/f=18.7(±4.5) and optibond solo plus=16.4(±3.9); dentin: one-step=6.4(±2.8); gluma one bond=3.0(±3.4); solobond m=10.6(±4.9); tenurequik w/f=7.8(±3.9) and optibond solo plus=15.1(±8.9). in enamel, the adhesive systems had statistically similar bond strengths to each other (p>0.05). however, the ethanol-based system (optibond solo plus) showed significantly higher bond strength to dentin than the acetone-based systems (p£0.0001). in conclusion, the solvent type (acetone or ethanol) had no influence on enamel bond strength, but had great influence on dentin bonding, which should be taken into account when choosing the adhesive system.
An Alternative Manifold for Cosmology Using Seifert Fibered and Hyperbolic Spaces  [PDF]
Maria E. Mejía, Reinaldo R. Rosa
Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/am.2014.56096
Abstract:

We propose a model with 3-dimensional spatial sections, constructed from hyperbolic cusp space glued to Seifert manifolds which are in this case homology spheres. The topological part of this research is based on Thurston’s conjecture which states that any 3-dimensional manifold has a canonical decomposition into parts, each of which has a particular geometric structure. In our case, each part is either a Seifert fibered or a cusp hyperbolic space. In our construction we remove tubular neighbourhoods of singular orbits in areas of Seifert fibered manifolds using a splice operation and replace each with a cusp hyperbolic space. We thus achieve elimination of all singularities, which appear in the standard-like cosmological models, replacing them by “a torus to infinity”. From this construction, we propose an alternative manifold for cosmology with finite volume and without Friedmann-like singularities. This manifold was used for calculating coupling constants. Obtaining in this way a theoretical explanation for fundamental forces is at least in the sense of the hierarchy.

Modern Research in Catalysis (MRC) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/mrc.2012.11001
Abstract: Photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) and phenol (Ph) on TiO2 in presence of H-type and L-type activated carbons (AC) was studied. Photodegradation of MB and Ph were studied under two different lamps and results were compared against those obtained on a commercial TiO2. Apparent first order rate constant for the degradation of MB was higher in presence of any AC in comparison of TiO2 alone while only in presence of ACco2-800phenol was photodegradated in shorter irradiation time than that required by TiO2. It can be concluded that TiO2 enhances its photoactivity by a factor up to 8.7 in the degradation of MB in presence of AC and this effect is associated to the specific surface properties of AC.

Mejía Rivera,Orlando;
Acta Medica Colombiana , 2007,
Abstract: research with stem cells is the most promising medical discovery for understanding and management of pathologies incurable so far. but besides that, it also announces the birth of regenerative medicine. this article analyses the state of the art with human embryonic and adult stem cells research, from the perspective of its revolutionary biological implications (questioning the classical embryology dogma of modern cardiology as well as the modern neurology dogma, epistemology (insufficient explanation of the mechanistic model of molecular biology) and its bioethical dilemma (moral statute of the embryo, creation of human - non - human and clinical research protocols).
