Mobile Data Mining-Based Services on the Base of Mobile Device Management (MDM) System  [PDF]

Client software on mobile devices that can cause the remote control perform data mining tasks and show production results is significantly added the value for the nomadic users and organizations that need to perform data analysis stored in the repository, far away from the site, where users work, allowing them to generate knowledge regardless of their physical location. This paper presents new data analysis methods and new ways to detect people work location via mobile computing technology. The growing number of applications, content, and data can be accessed from a wide range of devices. It becomes necessary to introduce a centralized mobile device management. MDM is a KDE software package working with enterprise systems using mobile devices. The paper discussed the design system in detail.

Homogeneity of Monthly Mean Air Temperature of the United Republic of Tanzania with HOMER  [PDF]

The long-term climate datasets are widely used in a variety of climate analyses. These datasets, however, have been adversely impacted by inhomogeneities caused by, for example relocations of meteorological station, change of land use cover surrounding the weather stations, substitution of meteorological station, changes of shelters, changes of instrumentation due to its failure or damage, and change of observation hours. If these inhomogeneities are not detected and adjusted properly, the results of climate analyses using these data can be erroneous. In this paper for the first time, monthly mean air temperatures of the United Republic of Tanzania are homogenized by using HOMER software package. This software is one of the most recent homogenization software and exhibited the best results in the comparative analysis performed within the COST Action ES0601 (HOME). Monthly mean minimum (TN) and maximum (TX) air temperatures from 1974 to 2012 were used in the analysis. These datasets were obtained from Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA). The analysis reveals a larger number of artificial break points in TX (12 breaks) than TN (5 breaks) time series. The homogenization process was assessed by comparing results obtained with Correlation analysis and Principal Component analysis (PCA) of homogenized and non-homogenized datasets. Mann-Kendal non-parametric test was used to estimate the existence, magnitude and statistical significance of potential trends in the homogenized and non-homogenized time series. Correlation analysis reveals stronger correlation in homogenized TX than TN in relation to non-homogenized time series. Results from PCA suggest that the explained variances of the principal components are higher in homogenized TX than TN in relation to non-homogenized time series. Abstract: Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is a usual way for analysing experiments. However, depending on the design and/or the analysis scheme, it can be a hard task. ExpDes, acronym for Experimental Designs, is a package that intends to turn such task easier. Devoted to fixed models and balanced experiments (no missing data), ExpDes allows user to deal with additional treatments in a single run, several experiment designs and exhibits standard and easy-to-interpret outputs. It was developed at the Exact Sciences Institute of the Federal University of Alfenas, Brazil. Stable versions of package ExpDes are available on CRAN (Comprehensive R Archive Network) since 2012. Based on users’ feedback, the package was used to illustrate graduation and post-graduation classes and to carry out data analysis, in Brazil and many other countries. Package ExpDes differs from the other R tools in its easiness in use and cleanliness of output.

Abstract: informatic is an important tool for health professionals, since the use of the technologies of information and communication facilitates their acting in research, teaching and medical care. nowadays, informatics leans toward the migration to free software, hence in the course 2010-2011 a new program for the medical informatics subject was put into use. this intends a flexible approach to this change, wherever the conditions are present. however the implementation of the teaching of free software requires the preparation of the professors and that of textbooks approaching these topics. due to the present lack of literature, an electronic book was created in order to support the teaching of the libreoffice ofimatic package.
Map Viewer: A New Add-on Tool for Geographic Information System

Abstract: A new GIS add-on tool, MapViewer, has been developed to bestow features such as enhanced graphic user interface, 3-D rotation of map windows, resizing of the map windows, re-positioning of the windows and changing their borders, etc, that are currently not available with GIS software. MapViewer also incorporates more powerful window information features and greater flexibility in handling the GIS maps. MapViewer has been coded in MapBasic 5.5 and Visual Basic 6.0. It executes its commands through Visual Basic, using the ‘integrated mapping’ feature of the anchor software MapInfo Professional. MapViewer has been subjected to extensive multi-user testing for over a year. The problems initially faced by the users were ironed out and since then the software has stood the test of time, establishing its ruggedness and durability.
The R0 package: a toolbox to estimate reproduction numbers for epidemic outbreaks

Abstract: Background Several generic methods have been proposed to estimate transmission parameters during an outbreak, especially the reproduction number. However, as of today, no dedicated software exists that implements these methods and allow comparisons. Results A review of generic methods used to estimate transmissibility parameters during outbreaks was carried out. Most methods used the epidemic curve and the generation time distribution. Two categories of methods were available: those estimating the initial reproduction number, and those estimating a time dependent reproduction number. We implemented five methods as an R library, developed sensitivity analysis tools for each method and provided numerical illustrations of their use. A comparison of the performance of the different methods on simulated datasets is reported. Conclusions This software package allows a standardized and extensible approach to the estimation of the reproduction number and generation interval distribution from epidemic curves.

Abstract: Literature data dedicated to formation of 4-phenylphthalonitrile were analyzed and generalized. As a result of the own studies, it has been established that on V–Sb–Bi–Zr/γ-Al2O3-oxide catalyst ammoxidation gives 83.10 mol.% 4-phenylphthalonitrile at high conversion of the initial 4-phenyl-o-xylene in a single process. In connection with increased demand to purity of 4-phe-nylphthalonitrile at using and division problem of hard-separable impurity of crystal 4-phe-nylphthalimide, a variant of the technological process design with average conversion and recirculation of the unreacted 4-phenyl-o-xylene and intermediate 4-phenyl-o-tolunitrile was proposed. In contrast to the single process, it has been determined that recirculation reduces quantity of form by-products, fractions of deep oxidation and increases selectivity on 4-phenylphthalonitrile up to 96.14% - 97.72%. For the data analysis and visualization of results it is developed and offered the software package of OptimMe written in C#.

Abstract: The algorithm and software of the programs on automatic formation of static topology of the infocommunication system, aimed at transport objects maintenance, are developed. The work of the algorithm is based on iterative search of parameters of stationary retransmitters with check after each iteration according to the condition of linking topology and the condition of minimizing the network cost. Software of the algorithm performs the choice of the location of intermediate retransmitters on the basis of multiple division of the transport object route.
Genome-Wide Likelihood Ratio Tests under Heterogeneity  [PDF]

Abstract: The commonly used statistical methods in medical research generally assume patients arise from one homogeneous population. However, the existence and importance of significant heterogeneity have been widely documented. It is well known that common and complex human diseases usually have heterogeneous disease etiology, which often involves interplay of multiple genetic and environmental factors, leading to latent population substructure. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) is a useful tool to uncover genetic association with disease of interest, while linkage analysis is a commonly used method to identify statistical association between the inheritance of a human disease and inheritance of marker loci that are in linkage with disease causing loci. We propose a likelihood ratio test for genome-wide linkage analysis under genetic heterogeneity using family data. We derive a closed-form formula for the LRT test statistic and provide explicit asymptotic null distribution. The closed form asymptotic distribution allows easy determination of the asymptotic p-values. Our extensive simulation studies indicate that the proposed test has proper type I error and good power under genetic heterogeneity. In order to simplify application of the proposed method for non-statisticians, we develop an R package gLRTH to implement the proposed LRT for genome-wide linkage analysis as well as Qian and Shao’s LRT for GWAS under heterogeneity. The newly developed open source R package gLRTH is available at CRAN.
Package Coupling Measurement in Object-Oriented Software

Abstract: The grouping of correlated classes into a package helps in better organization of modern object-oriented software. The quality of such packages needs to be measured so as to estimate their utilization. In this paper, new package coupling metrics are proposed, which also take into consideration the hierarchical structure of packages and direction of connections among package elements. The proposed measures have been validated theoretically as well as empirically using 18 packages taken from two open source software systems. The results obtained from this study show strong correlation between package coupling and understandability of the package which suggests that proposed metrics could be further used to represent other external software quality factors.
