Valores energéticos e aminoácidos digestíveis da semente do capim-arroz (Echinochloa spp) para aves

Abstract: three assays were carried out to evaluate the nutritive value of the barnyardgrass seeds (echnochloa spp.) for poultry. in the first assay, twelve adult cockerels were used to determine the true metabolizable energy value corrected by nitrogen retained (tmen), using the forced fed method. in this assay six cockerels were forced fed 30 g of the feed and six cockerels were fastened to determinate metabolic and endogenous losses. in the second assay, twelve cecectomized cockerels were used to determine the true digestibility coefficients of the amino acids in the tested feed, using the same metodology. to determinate the apparent metabolizable energy corrected by nitrogen retained (amen) in the thirth assay, the total excreta collection method was used, with 80 growing chicks of commercial strain. the barnyardgrass seed was included in the proportion of 25 percent of the reference diet, which contained 20% cp and 3000 kcal of the me/kg. the reference and test diets were fed to four replicates of ten birds each. the energy values determined were 1813 kcal amen and 1976 kcal of the tmen/kg as fed. the true digestibility coefficients of the essential and non essential amino acids were, in average, 78.2 % and 78.3 %, respectively. the threonine and the lysine shown lower digestibility (65.8 and 67.2%, respectively) and the phenilalanine (86.4%) follow by the methionine (86.0%) presented higher values among essential amino acids. the tyrosine (90.5%) and cystine (56.3%) presented higher and lower digestibility coefficients, respectively, among the non essential amino acids.
Uso do conceito de proteína ideal em ra??es com diferentes níveis energéticos, suplementadas com fitase para frangos de corte de 1a 21 dias de idade

Abstract: an experiment was carried out to evaluate the performance and nutrients digestibility by broiler chickens in the period of 1 to 21 days of age. the experimental design was completely randomized, where t1 was the control treatment constituted by 21.1% of crude protein (cp), 3000 kcal of apparent metabolizable energy (amen)/kg, 0.46% of available phosphorus (ap) and 1.0% of calcium (ca). t2 was the diet with 17.0% of cp and 3000 kcal of amen/kg, t3 the diet with 19.0% of cp and 2900 kcal of amen/kg, t4 the diet with 19.0% of cp and 3000 kcal of amen/kg, and t5 the diet with 19.0% of cp and 3100 kcal of amen/kg. except for the control diet, the diets were formulated with 0.34% of ap, 0.80% of ca and supplemented with phytase. the weight gains of the chickens were similar (p>0.05), independently of the experimental diets. however, the worst feed conversion was observed for the birds fed with 17.0% of cp. the birds which were fed diets with 19.0% of cp and 3000 or 3100 kcal of amen/kg showed performance similar to those fed with the control diet. the excretion of n and p reduced, on average, 16.5% and 22.0%, respectively, and there was increase in the p retention for the birds that were fed the experimental rations. the retention of ca and n was smaller and similar, respectively, for the birds that consumed experimental rations. from these results, it is concluded that the diet with 19.0% of cp and 3000 kcal of amen/kg, supplemented with phytase, does not affect the 1-to-21-day-old broiler chickens and enables to decrease the environmental impact of the nutrients.

Abstract: one hundred cobb male broiler chickens with 42 days old were used to study the effect of different digestible lysine and crude proteins ratios on chemical composition and physical composition of the breast muscle meat. a completely randomized design and two hierarquic criteries of classification was used. the birds were raised and fed a basal diet until 21 days old and, from 22 to 42 days, they were fed a diet formulated with two crude protein (cp) levels (17.0 and 19.5%) and five digestible lysine and cp ratios, 5.9, 6.4, 6.9, 7.4 and 7.9% for ration with 17.0% cp and 5.3, 5.7, 6.1, 6.5, and 6.9% for ration with 19.5% cp, totaling 10 treatments with six replications. at 42 age days, two birds of each replicate were slaughtered for breast muscle meat sample collections. no effects were observed on breast muscle meat for the physical characteristics. in the chemical characteristics, effect in the 19.5% cp level was observed, in a way that the protein of the breast meat meat llinearly increased as the digestible lysine and cp ratio increases, not being evidenced differences for the others evaluated characteristic. the best ratio for protein deposition in the breast muscle meat in the 17.0% cp level was 5.9% (1.34% digestible lysine), and the worse in the 19.5% cp level was 5.3% (1.03% digestible lysine). however, as the others characteristic was not affected, the option to increase the digestible lysine content to improve the breast muscle meat protein deposition will depend on the cost of this operation. the protein level in the diet of broiler chickens in growth phase can be reduced up to 17.0% cp, with no effect on breast muscle meat quality of broiler chickens, by using an ideal protein concept.

Abstract: this paper was developed to evaluate the performance and the carcass characteristics of broiler chickens over the period from 22 to 42 days, fed with diets formulated with different digestible lysine: crude protein (cp) ratio. a completely randomized experimental design was used, according to a model with two criteria of hierarchical rank. a total of 1,200 male broiler chicks of the cobb strain, raised upy to 21 days of age, when the birds were uniformized with average weight of 879 ± 17 g and distributed into the experimental plots. the diets were isonutrient, except for the levels of cp and digestible lysine, formulated with two levels of cp 17.0 and 19.5%, and five digestible lysine : cp ratios, corresponding to 5.9; 6.4; 6.9; 7.4 and 7.9% within the diet of 17.0% cp and 5.3; 5.7; 6.1; 6.5 and 6.9% on the diet with 19.5% cp. each experimental diet was supplied to 20 birds in each one of the six replicates. at 42 days, the performance characteristics (weight gain, feed consumption and feed conversion) were evaluated, and two birds from each plot were slaughtered for determination of carcass yield, cuts and abdominal fat. feed consumption was reduced feed conversion improved linearly according to the ratios evaluated within the level of 17.0% cp. there was no significant effect of the two levels of cp used, on weight gain, characteristic carcass and cuts yield. abdominal fat linearly reduced in the level of 19.5% cp. the ideal ratio was of 5.9% for 17.0% cp and 5.3% for 19.5% cp. the cp level of the diet can be reduced for 17.0%, with no effect on bird performance.
Energy and protein levels in diets containing phytase for broilers from 22 to 42 days of age: performance and nutrient excretion

Abstract: this study was conducted in order to evaluate the influence of different levels of metabolizable energy and crude protein in diets formulated according to the ideal protein concept with phytase supplementation on performance and nutrient excretion of broilers from 22 to 42 days age. it was used 1,500 coob lineage broilers at 22 days of age and with initial weight of 833 ± 7g, distributed in completely randomized design in a 3 × 3 + 1 factorial scheme composed of three levels of correct apparent metabolizable energy (2,950; 3,100 and 3,250 kcal/kg), three levels of crude protein (14, 16 and 18%) and a control treatment, totaling ten treatments with six repetitions of 25 birds each. all diets, with the exception of the control, were supplemented with phytase. for determination of excretion of pollutants, it was used 180 broilers from the same lineage at 35 days of age,placed in metabolic cages, with ten treatments each one with six repetitions and three birds per experimental unit. the protein and energy levels in diets containing phytase influenced feed intake, weight gain, feed conversion and excretion of nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, copper and zinc by the birds. the corrected apparent metabolizable energy level in the diets for broilers in the studied period must be increased up to 3,250 kcal/kg of metabolizable energy and the levels of crude protein, calcium and phosphorus must be reduced down to 18, 0.70 and 0.31%, respectively, provided that supplemented with amino acids and phytase to improve the performance and to reduce excretion of pollutants by birds.

Abstract: the experiment aimed to test different ratios digestible lysine:crude protein (cp) in diets for broiler until 21 days. one thousand and eight hundred 1-d birds of cobb strain were allotted to a completely randomized design with a hierarchical rank model with three levels of cp and four ratios digestible lysine:cp was used. in the performance trial, the diets were fed to 30 birds in each of the five replicates. at 21 days of age, feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion were evaluated. a linear increase on weight gain was observed in the 18.5 and 21.5% of cp levels. feed conversion improved linearly according to the ratios of lysine within the three levels of cp studied. carcass yield increased linearly with increasing rations at the level of 15.5% of cp, it not being significant at the other levels of cp studied. in the metabolism trial, the ratios digestible lysine:cp showed linear effect on eman (21.5% of cp) and nitrogen excretion (18.5% of cp), quadratic effect on eman (15.5 and 18.5% of cp) and n retention coefficient (15.5% of cp). based on the results of weight gain, the ideal digestible lysine:cp ratio in the initial phase was of 6.8% (18.5% of cp) and 5.9% (21.5% of cp), or 1.26 and 1.27% of digestible lysine. the dietary cp contents fed to broilers in the initial phase can be reduced to 18.5%, with no effect on bird performance, but by decreasing nitrogen excretion to 24%, since the diets are supplemented with synthetic aminoacids.
Níveis de inclus o da torta de baba u em ra es de frangos de corte na fase inicial Levels of inclusion of babassu coconut in diets for broiler chickens

Abstract: Objetivou-se avaliar os níveis de inclus o da torta de baba u (0, 4, 8 e 12%) na alimenta o de frangos de corte no período de um a 21 dias de idade. Utilizou-se 200 pintos de corte da linhagem Hubbard, distribuídos em um delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, com quatro tratamentos e cinco repeti es de 10 aves por unidade experimental. Os tratamentos consistiram de ra es experimentais que continham níveis crescentes de inclus o da torta de baba u (0, 4, 8, 12%), formuladas para serem isoenergéticas e isoprotéicas. As variáveis de desempenho avaliadas foram o consumo de ra o, ganho de peso e convers o alimentar. Para a determina o de energia metabolizável aparente corrigida, reten o diária de energia, matéria seca e nitrogênio das ra es experimentais realizou-se coleta de excretas de cada repeti o por três dias consecutivos, e estas foram analisadas juntamente com as ra es quanto ao teor de matéria seca, energia bruta e nitrogênio. A inclus o da torta de baba u n o afetou nenhuma das variáveis de desempenho avaliadas. Da mesma forma n o foi observado efeito dos níveis de inclus o da torta de baba u sobre a energia metabolizável corrigida e sobre o coeficiente de reten o de energia bruta. Concluiu-se que a torta de baba u pode ser utilizada como ingrediente em ra es de frangos de corte de um a 21 dias até o nível de 12%. The objective of this study was to evaluate the levels of inclusion of babassu coconut (0, 4, 8 and 12%) in diets for broiler chickens from 1 to 21 days old. 200 Hubbard chicks were distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatments and five replications, being each experimental unit composed of 10 birds. The treatments consisted in experimental diets containing increasing levels of inclusion of babassu coconut (0, 4, 8 and 12%), formulated to contain the same nutritional level. The performance of variables evaluated were feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion. The apparent metabolizable energy, diary retention of gross energy, dry matter and nitrogen of experimental diets was determined by total collection of excreta for three consecutive days, which are analyzed together with the feed for dry matter, gross energy and nitrogen contents. The inclusion of the babassu not affected any of the evaluated variables. Likewise, there was no effect of inclusion levels of babassu coconut on the apparent metabolizable energy and the diary of retention of gross energy. On this basis, the babassu coconut can be used as an ingredient in diets of broilers from 1 to 21 days until the level of 12%.
Social capital and quality of life in adolescent apprentices in Brazil: An exploratory study  [PDF]

Background: Adolescents who rely on social aid networks tend to be more socially competent and enjoy higher levels of quality of life than those who interact only with their own limited groups of family and friends. In this light, the present study aimed to measure social capital and analyse its possible relation to adolescents’ quality of life. Methods: This is a cross-sectional analytical study with 363 adolescents from the Brazilian NGO. The instruments used included a short Portuguese version of the Integrated Questionnaire to Measure Social Capital (SC-QI) from the World Bank and its abbreviated Portuguese version from the World Health Organization Quality of Life Bref (WHOQoL-Bref) used to measure the quality of life. To measure social capital, the present study chose to use a segmentation analysis, along with the Two-Step Cluster method, applying Euclidian distance and the criteria of centroid aggregation. The Mann-Whitney test was used to compare the scores of WHOQoL-Bref domains among the clusters, at a significance level of 5%. Results: The segmentation analysis resulted in two clusters, with 160 (44.1%) adolescents classified as Low Social Capital (LSC) and 178 (49%) classified as High Social Capital (HSC). Participation in activities for the good of the community (p < 0.001), opinion regarding the differences between people in the community (p = 0.002), and number of community meetings (p < 0.001) constituted the decisive variables for determining the separation of the clusters. When quality of life among the newly formed clusters was compared, the highest average score in the HSC cluster was found in the Psychological Domain (75.4 ± 11.9), whereas in the LSC cluster, the highest average score was found in the Physical Domain (74.6 ± 12.6). Lower quality of life scores was found in the environmental domain for both the LSC clusters (51.3 ± 14.0) and the HSC clusters (54.7 ± 15.5). Abstract: qualitative study with the purpose of analyzing intersectorial actions for health promotion in the context of the family health strategy, identifying experiences, facilitating and restricting factors to the process of building partnerships. subjects were health managers and informers from social equipment in the territory covered by a local health service in belo horizonte/minas gerais, brazil. the results indicate the existence of a wide social network. however, intersectorial health promoting actions are still incipient. intersectorial actions are faced with the challenge of creating communication spaces that allow the resolution of complex problems. it is concluded that intersectorial actions constitute an innovative strategy which is still under construction, and the paths of which are still being unraveled.

Abstract: objective: from a perspective of comprehensive care, the purpose of the study was to evaluate factors associated to dental care provided to down syndrome children and adolescents. methods: a cross-sectional study was carried out including 112 pairs of mothers/down syndrome children aged between 3 and 18 years who attended a public hospital genetics clinic in rio de janeiro, southeastern brazil, in 2006. dental care was not provided at the clinic. data were collected through a questionnaire administered to the mothers and oral examinations of their children. multiple logistic regression was used for data analysis. the dependent variable was "dental care of the down syndrome child or adolescent" and the independent variables included demographic, socioeconomic and behavioral characteristics. results: most children (79.5%) had had at least one dental visit (90% ci: 72.3; 87.8). dental experience of the children was associated to the following variables: mothers who reported being advised by their children's health provider to take them to the dentist's (or=6.1 [2.5; 15.1]); children with prior history of surgery (or=2.5 [0.9; 7.1]); and age between 12 and 18 years (or=13.1 [2.0; 86.9]). conclusions: dental care provided to down syndrome children and adolescents was associated to advice given by their health providers, a part of comprehensive care.
