This study evaluated the nutritional characteristics of Brachiaria brizantha cultivars subjected to three cutting intensities in the course of one year. The experiment was conducted at the University of Rio Verde. The experiment was performed as a randomized 3 × 3 factorial in complete block design with three replications and repeated measures in the time. Three Brachiaria brizantha cultivars (Marandu palisadegrass, Xaraes palisadegrass, and Piata palisadegrass), were tested at three cutting intensities (10, 20, and 30 cm sward height). The evaluations were conducted on the same plots throughout one year and during all four seasons (autumn, winter, spring, and summer). The results showed that the Piata palisadegrass had the best chemical composition compared to the Marandu palisadegrass and Xaraes palisadegrass. The management of Brachiaria brizantha cultivars at the lowest residual height (10 cm) affected the nutritional value of these feed grasses. Seasonality also influenced the nutritional value of these forages.

Abstract: objective: to examine factors associated with therapeutic regimen complexity of drug prescriptions for elderly people in belo horizonte, minas gerais, brazil. methods: a household survey of elderly people selected by simple random sampling from brazil's social security register. the medication complexity index (mci), a direct measurement of actions required to administer medication, was derived from information in the latest prescription. univariate and bivariate analyses were performed to identify factors associated with the mci. results: of the 667 interviewees, 56.5% had prescriptions meeting the inclusion criteria; most (69.2%) were females aged 72.4 years (mean); 35.5% self-rated their health good or very good; and 37.4% reported five or more diseases. in the 15 days prior to interview, 1873 drugs were used (mean=5.1), of which 942 appeared on the prescriptions examined (mean=2.5). over the same period, 22.3% of interviewees failed to use some prescribed drug. the mci ranged from 1 to 24 (mean=6.1). number of drugs prescribed (>2), less schooling, worse perception of health and a lower benefit payment associated positively with greater complexity (p<0.05). an association was observed between regimen complexity and failure to use some drug in the preceding 15 days (p=0.034). conclusion: elderly people in worse socio-economic and health conditions seem more likely to receive more complex therapeutic regimens, which are associated with non-compliance to the proposed treatment. this is an important consideration in the healthcare of elderly. simplification of therapy could aid self-care among the elderly.

Abstract: purpose: to check if individuals with lingual frenulum alteration demonstrate chewing interference. methods: the casuistry of this research was carried out with two groups, a target and a control group, each one with ten individuals. the target group had lingual frenulum alteration. all subjects were submitted to lingual frenulum and chewing evaluation protocols. this procedure was recorded. results: the collected samples showed that individuals with lingual frenulum alteration have 5.447 times more chances of show tongue mobility alteration than individuals with normal frenulum. subjects with tongue mobility alteration haven't kept regularity when it comes to mastication period. as for the chewing, on the grinding mode, 100% of the control group used the back teeth. among the subjects with frenulum alteration, 47% used the back teeth and 53% chewed with the front teeth and/or mashing with the tongue. regarding muscle atypical movements, individuals with frenulum alteration have 5.714 times more chances to show them during the chewing than individuals from the control group. conclusion: individuals with lingual frenulum alteration showed tongue mobility alteration and mastication alterations.

This study evaluated the dry matter production and chemical composition of Brachiaria forage grasses in the offseason after corn harvest in integrated crop-livestock system. The experiment was conducted at the Federal Institute of Goiás, Rio Verde Campus, using a randomized complete block experimental design, with four replications. The treatments consisted of the forages: Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu; Brachiaria brizantha cv. Xaraes; Brachiaria brizantha cv. Piata; Brachiaria brizantha cv. MG-4; Brachiaria decumbens and Brachiaria ruziziensis, intercropped in oversown corn for implantation of integrated crop-livestock system. The results showed that intercropping corn with Brachiaria grasses favors the production of high-quality forage in the offseason, and the cultivars of Brachiaria brizantha and Brachiaria
