Abstract: this study analyzed the psychometric properties of the second version of the assessment scale for body dysmorphic disorder (as-bdd). it is a scale of self-report, with 40 items, developed to evaluate 3 dimensions of body dysmorphic disorder (bdd): (a) excessive concern with a minor or imagined flaw in his/her personal physical characteristics, (b) significant clinical suffering and functional damage in important areas of life, and (c) such concern is not better explained by another disorder. the construct analysis by judges indicated accordance in 35 items which were answered by 30 patients diagnosed with bdd and 400 university students. the validity of criterion measures indicated ability to discriminate the items among the individuals of both sampled groups. the exploratory factor analysis suggested a unidimensional structure of the scale which allows to measuring "excessive concern with a minor or imagined flaw in his/her personal physical characteristics and the functional damages in different areas of life". the withheld items have shown excellent internal consistency. cut point definitions and the ability to discriminate other disorders should be further studied.

Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the contributions of Popular Education in Health for the elderly empowerment in the community context. It is characterized as a qualitative research, type action research, which were studied issues related to prevention and promotion of health of the elderly in the community setting, through the Popular Education in Health, among the Project activities extension “Popular Education and Health Care for the Family (PEPASF)”, the Federal University of Paraíba, in Jo?o Pessoa, PB, Brazil. The participants were 40 elderly (but here we used the answers of three of them), 90 students (but here we used the answers of three of them) of design and 3 professionals (here we used the answers of one physician and two community health workers), from local health services. The analysis showed the implication of experienced by the People’s Education care so to promote the health of the elderly in the empowerment perspective, promoting new attitudes in the face of situations of life. It was noticed that care so developed by PEPASF contributed to the promotion of the health of the elderly followed, encompassing the dimensions, social, physical and subjective, inherent in the human being. By valuing aspects of the subjectivity of the elderly, the project has expanded the prospects for comprehensive health promotion, demonstrating significant benefits to improve the quality of life of these people, opening new horizons for the search for autonomy and empowerment, as well as the transformation unjust and exclusionary social realities.

Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71672005000400009
Abstract: the study had as objectives to verify the professional conduct and feelings of nurses from emergency department when they are faced with an adverse event related to medication therapy and to verify its associations with such factors as age, time of completion of college degree, time of experience in the field and previous history with this type of event. the sample was composed of 116 nurses working in various general hospitals in the municipality of sao paulo who answered a questionnaire about a fictitious situation related with a medication error. the results revealed the following conducts in order of priority: communicate the physician (69,8%), intensify patient care (55,1%) and make proper annotations in the patient's chart. the most prevailing affective manifestation was to worry (79,3%), followed by impotence and rage (22,4% each) and insecurity (22,4%). the variable analysis showed a relationship between the professional conduct and the time of completion of college degree, while the feelings were related to age and previous experience with this type of event.

Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2004000600008
Abstract: the aim of this study was to quantify soil microbial biomass carbon in a soybean crop under different soil management systems no-tillage, single harrowing, subsoiling and two harrowing, on a clay red-yellow latossol in the cerrado region. soils were studied at five depths 0-5, 5-10, 10-20, 20-30 and 30-40 cm. four periods were observed before soil preparation; 30 days after germination; flowering stage and after harvesting soybean plants. the same measurements were taken under the same conditions in an area of native cerrado vegetation, adjacent to the experiment (cerrado sensu strictu). subsoiling showed highest carbon values 30 days after germination (865.7 mg kg-1 of soil). this was reduced to less than 10% (80.3 mg kg-1) at flowering. the carbon values were more stable in the no-tillage system, mainly in the 0-20 cm layer. the layers 0-5 cm and 5-10 cm showed significantly higher carbon values compared with other layers in most of the studied periods and depths. subsoiling showed the lowest soil organic carbon level after soybean harvesting. only in the system with subsoiling there was no significant correlation between the microbial carbon organic carbon index and soil nutrients.

Abstract: the aim of this work was to quantify soil nitrogen microbial biomassa (snmb) under different soil management systems: no-tillage (nt); one harrowing (oh); one subsoiling with two harrowings (sh). these systems were compared with native cerrado, on a red yellow latossol clay, in federal district. soils were studied at five depths, 0-5, 5-10, 10-20, 20-30 and 30-40 cm, over four periods: before soil preparation; 30 days after germination (dag); flowering stage and after harvesting soybean plants. the native cerrado showed the highest values of snmb in all periods and management systems. significant differences were found between 0-5, 5-10 and 10-20 cm soil layers, except at 30 dag. the nmic:ntotal percentual ratio in cerrado soil was 2.5 times greater than oh system, three times greater than nt and five times greater than sh. the distribution of total n decreased in the cerrado soil and other management systems with soil depth. total n levels decreased with soil depth in all periods. there was a positive correlation between nutrients and microbial nitrogen in different management systems and soils under native cerrado vegetation.
