Abstract: this survey aims at establishing a dynamic diagnosis of children and adolescents living on the streets of brasilia?s main area (known as the "pilot plan"), in brazil?s federal district, taking into account the psychic and social dimensions of that population. the study was carried out according to the survey-action pattern, using ethnographic and participant observations, in which the researcher interacted with the child through play and educational activities - games and drawings. observations were recorded in field cards, which were later analyzed and grouped in categories related to the psychic and social dimensions, such as: transgression spots, gangs organization, survival strategies, rapport, relating with their own and other?s bodies. the hypothesis has to do with the influence of these factors as elements connected to the street kid identity and subjectivity construction. drawings made by children and adolescents pointed to regression aspects and the ethnographic observations showed that the street space works as a paradoxical reference source. by dealing with paradoxes, street boys and girls build alliances and subjective support nets, and organize their identity. the street child dynamics, marked by the paradox, affects the intervention work of social and street educators who must be attentive to avoid being caught by the child?s paradox, which would hamper their ability to think and elaborate on the difficulties their own action.

Health (Health) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/health.2014.615224
Abstract: It was aimed at validating the applicability of the Model of Verbal Communication with blind people in nursing appointment in the stages of the nursing process. A methodology of quantitative study was used with 30 nurses and 30 blind people who participated in the study, divided in control and experimental groups. 30 nursing appointments took place; they were recorded and analyzed by three judges. The experimental group had excellent performance in following protocol (95.6%); taking notes informing the reason for silence (93.4%); and avoiding long silence (100%). In interventions, it presented excellence in all the items, in the evaluation stage, there were no bad/terrible actions. In none of the actions the control group presented better performance than the experimental one. The use of the Model is recommended in nursing appointment with blind patient.

Brasil, Kátia Tarouquella;Alves, Paola Biasoli;Amparo, Deise Matos do;Frajorge, Kellen Cristine;
Paidéia (Ribeir?o Preto) , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-863X2006000300008
Abstract: this study had as objectives to investigate and to discuss the risk situations for adolescents from the distrito federal, brazil, based on the ecological theory approach. 852 questionnaires were applied in adolescents from the public schools of the df, localized in some regions previously identificated as in risk situation. the data show that the violence, the suicide attempt, the presence of drugs and the sexuality are indicators of risk. nevertheless, the same data show that these adolescents are capable of developing protective strategies to the promotion of their health such as condom use in their sexual relationships, family daily contact and support expectation from the neighborhood. on observe that hese data can be specific from the df but it is necessary to create and to apply public politcs related to the domestic violence prevention and to the economical support to this young people.

Braga, Daniela Tusi;Manfro, Gisele Gus;Niederauer, Kátia;Cordioli, Aristides Volpato;
Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-44462010000200012
Abstract: objective: the aim of this study was to assess whether the results obtained with 12 sessions of cognitive-behavioral group therapy with obsessive-compulsive patients were maintained after two years, and whether the degree of symptom remission was associated with relapse. method: forty-two patients were followed. the severity of symptoms was measured at the end of cognitive-behavioral group therapy and at 18 and 24 months of follow-up. the assessment scales used were the yale-brown obsessive-compulsive scale, clinical global impression, beck depression inventory, and beck anxiety inventory. results: the reduction in symptom severity observed at the end of treatment was maintained during the two-year follow-up period (f = 57.881; p < 0.001). at the end of the treatment, 9 (21.4%) patients presented full remission, 22 (52.4%) presented partial remission, and 11 (26.2%) had unchanged scores in the yale-brown obsessive-compulsive scale. after two years, 13 patients (31.0%) presented full remission, 20 (47.6%) had partial remission, and 9 (21.4%) had unchanged yale-brown obsessive-compulsive scalescores. the full remission of symptoms at the end of the treatment was a protective factor against relapse (χ2 = 4,962; df = 1; p = 0.026). conclusion: our findings underscore the importance of attaining full remission of obsessive-compulsive symptoms during treatment and the need for new therapeutic strategies to achieve this.

Brazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-86702007000500015
Abstract: testicular schistosomiasis by schistosoma mansoni is exceedingly rare, with only 11 cases reported in pubmed. we report a new case from brazil. a 31-year-old man from the northeast region of the country presented with a 2 cm nodule in the right testis. ultrasonography showed a well-delimited hypoechoic tumor, suggestive of a granulomatous lesion. magnetic resonance imaging revealed an irregular tunica albuginea signal. a biopsy showed interstitial tissue with schistosome ova and granuloma formation. the nodule was excised, and the patient was treated with oxamniquine. he has remained symptom free for 10 years. a testicular nodule should raise suspicion of numerous pathologies, including schistosomiasis. treatment should include therapy with oxamniquine or praziquantel, and nodule excision should be done whenever possible.
