Barbosa, Sandro;Vide, Lisete Chamma da;Pereira, Ant?nio Vander;Abreu, Juscélio Clemente De;
Bragantia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87052007000300001
Abstract: the aim of this study was to duble the chromose number of elephantgrass and pearl millet triploid hybrids in order to obtain hexaploid fertile plants. this strategy would allow the use of the hexaploids in the elephantgrass breeding program as a bridge for transfering alleles of desired characteristics and making possible propagation by seed. seedlings, plantlets and stem segments were cultivated in vitro and treated with 0.05% or 0.1% colchicine for 12 or 24 h. seedlings of different hybrid genotypes and meristems of two interspecific hybrids were cultivated in vivo and treated for 24 h with 0.05% colchicine. chromose duplication was confirmed by countings in the root tip cells. pollen viability, in vitro germination tests and seed production were used to evaluate the fertility of the hexaploids. seedlings cultivated in vitro and treated with 0.1% colchicine for 24 h were the most efficient method of polyploidy induction, as 38% of the surviving plants have twice the number of chromose viable pollen grains and fertile seeds.
Mixoploidia em híbridos de capim-elefante x milheto tratados com agentes antimitóticos
Abreu, Juscélio Clemente de;Davide, Lisete Chamma;Pereira, Ant?nio Vander;Barbosa, Sandro;
Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2006001100009
Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate methods of chromosome duplication, using antimitotic agents and several botanical materials as explant hybrids between napiergrass (pennisetum purpureum shum.) and pearl millet (pennisetum glaucum (l.) r. br.). colchicine (50 mg l-1 and 100 mg l-1) and cycloheximide:8-hydroxyquinoline (1:1) (25 mg l-1:300 mg l -1) solutions have been applied in vivo to shoots and in vitro to seedlings and tillers. the antimitotic effect has been evaluated through survival rate, chromosome number and presence of cell cycle anomalies at the root tips of surviving plants. the best results have been obtained when seedlings have been treated with colchicine and tillers with cycloheximide: 8-hydroxyquinoline. mixoploidy has been observed in cells having 14 to 42 chromosomes, indicating that duplication, followed by chromosome elimination, has occurred, which has been confirmed by chromosome aberrations. in the average, 86.4% of the analyzed cells have presented a chromosome number different from 21.

Journal of Biosciences and Medicines (JBM) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jbm.2017.57008
Abstract: The cotton plant is a plant belonging to the family Malvaceae and its leaves are often used in folk medicine. The present study aimed to evaluate the mutagenic or antimutagenic activity of the ethanolic extract of Gossypium barbadense L. (EEG) and to analyze its capacity to prevent or repair mutagenic lesions caused by cyclophosphamide (CP). For the Micronucleus test, Swiss mice were divided into 5 groups: negative control; Positive control: treated with 50 mg/kg cyclophosphamide (CP), group receiving EEG 500 mg/kg for 7 days; Group receiving EEG 500 mg/kg for 7 days associated with CP24h before euthanasia; Group who received CP and EEG 500 mg/kg for 7 days. After the treatment period, the animals were euthanized, the bone marrow removed and the blood smear prepared. From this analysis, it was observed that the EEG caused a significant increase in the number of micronucleated erythrocytes, indicating mutagenic activity of the extract. In addition, it was verified that the extract did not present the capacity to prevent, but it presented the capacity of repair of the chromosomal damages caused by CP.
Características morfoanat?micas da epiderme foliar de plantas variantes e n?o variantes somaclonais de bananeiras (Musa sp. Colla cv. Prata-an?) cultivadas in vitro
Lacerda, Guilherme Araújo;Silva, Janaina de Oliveira Costa e;Abreu, Juscélio Clemente de;Alves, Eduardo;Paiva, Luciano Vilela;
Acta Botanica Brasilica , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33062008000100011
Abstract: somaclonal variation corresponds to the emergence of abnormal plants during the process of multiplication in vitro, mainly related to stature, in the case the gigantism. the aim of this work was to discover morphoanatomical differences of the leaf epidermis in an attempt to differentiate plants of "prata-an?" from their somaclonal variants. analysis by scanning electronic microscopy showed significant difference between the polar diameter of the stomata of the "prata-an?" non-variant and its variants, both in vitro. the same does not happen for plants in vivo. the average number of stomata is lower in the somaclonal variant plants, but without significant differences except for plant piii. wax peeling is only evident in the variant plants of both the in vitro and in vivo material. we concluded that morphoanatomical characters of the leaf epidermis, such as stomatal density, polar stomatal diameter and wax uniformity act as morphological markers to characterize the micropropagated plants of "prata-an?" in relation to the somaclonal variants for the characteristic gigantism.
Meio século de minera??o industrial na Amaz?nia e suas implica??es para o desenvolvimento regional
Monteiro, Maurílio de Abreu;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142005000100012
Abstract: the establishment of mineral extraction and mineral transformation industries in the western brazilian amazon in the last five decades created recurrent and widespread expectations of a fast regional industrialization resulting from "comparative advantages" brought by the fulfillment of the world demand for mineral commodities. mineral and metallurgic activities have proven nevertheless to have a very limited capacity to foster broad and socially rooted development dynamics. this phenomenon may be partially explained by the particular dynamics of technological innovation in those industries, by the institutional environment in which they are embedded and finally by the secondary role played by the social, cultural and ecological characteristics of the region in order to guarantee a competitive valorization of the mineral resources of the western amazon.

Clemente, Maria das Gra?as;Abreu, Luiz Ronaldo de;
Ciência e Agrotecnologia , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-70542008000200023
Abstract: "manteiga de garrafa" (bottled butter fat) is a product widely used in the northern part of brazil, specifically in salinas, an important producing region in the northern part of minas gerais state. in spite of that, there is no a great number of references in the literature concerning this product. this study was carried out to characterize the physical and chemical properties of this dairy product, comparing the results obtained with the current legislation for this product (brazil, 2002). moisture, fat content, ph, salt, proteins, free fatty acids and acidity varied from 0.6 to 3.0%, 95.6 to 98.6%, 2.23 to 6.27, 0.74 to 1.79%, 0.12 to 0.15%, 7.60 to 48.08 mol/l, 0.6 to 9.52% of latic acid, respectively. all the "manteiga de garrafa" analysed, it was shown to be out of pattern considering the current legislation (brazil, 2002).
Moralidade e sociabilidade em Frankl: um norte para supera??o da violência
Moreira, Jacqueline de Oliveira;Abreu, Anderson Kerley Chaves de;Oliveira, Marina Clemente de;
Psicologia em Estudo , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-73722006000300019
Abstract: the present text aims at presenting, in an introductory way, concepts such as, violence, morality and sociability within frankl?s human-existentialist conception. according to frankl?s conception, the violence is responsible for the degradation of the human being, and also for human decharacterization. therefore, it dehumanizes the human being. in a humanistic and anthropological scope, the overcoming of violence must be conceived by means of auto-transcendence, that is, by overcoming a selfish existence. undergoing the experience of morality and sociability, mankind is able to reveal the feeling that alterity can confer to human life. therefore, the human being fulfills himself basing his existence in auto-transcendence. this happens when the human being finds a meaning for his own existence outside himself. it is through the genuine interacting with ?the other? that man enables sociability, assures moral behaviour and surpasses the dimension of violence.

Clemente, Maria das Gra?as;Abreu, Luiz Ronaldo de;Pinto, Sandra Maria;Rezende, Creuza Pedroso Amaral;
Ciência e Agrotecnologia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-70542009000600022
Abstract: the economic history of salinas, minas gerais is largely based on cattle-breeding. the discoverers found in the city's region a large potential for the progress of their activities, either in agriculture or in cattle-breeding (oliveira, 2000). even today, milk production plays an important role in family farming activities, which besides raw milk, provides curdal cheese, cottage cheese, and "bottled butter fat", which is manufactured with fat extracted from whey. therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the fatty acid profile of "bottled butter fat" produced in salinas, in the northern region of minas gerais , and also to analyze the ratio of saturated to unsaturated fatty acid of these butters. the fatty acid profile of the "bottled butter fat" was determined by chromatographic analysis, according to methodology advanced by luddy et al. (1960), and later modified by abreu (1993). analysis of variance was applied for comparison of the averages by the tukey test at 5% probability. the fatty acid profiles of all the "bottled butter fat" were found to be similar. the concentration of saturated fatty acids was higher than that of the unsaturated, with averages of 60,36% and 39,64%, respectively.
Paleocanais na plataforma continental interna do Rio Grande do Sul: evidências de uma drenagem fluvial pretérita
Abreu, José Gustavo Natorf de;Calliari, Lauro Júlio;
Revista Brasileira de Geofísica , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-261X2005000200002
Abstract: subsurface structures mapped by the sparker? acoustic system on the inner continental shelf of rio grande do sul state, in southern brazil were interpreted as paleochannels which developed over a coastal plain environment during the upper pleistocene and lower holocene. two major reflectors displaying expressive lateral continuity were identified. the first reflector, which is shallower, is buried at depths ranging from 10 to 12m and its surface is relatively homogeneous displaying few irregularities associated that channeled structures. the second reflector mapped on depths ranging from 14 a 32m is more discontinuous and irregular and display erosive structures. the overall interpretation of the shallow seismic reflection profiles indicates that this preterit drainage display an n/ne-se/sw orientation increasing its width and decreasing its depth towards offshore. the presence of paleochannels in the inner continental shelf of rs state supports the paleogeographic models of the area proposed by early studies.
