A Case Study on the Relationship between Personality Traits and Parameters of Social Networks  [PDF]

In this paper, the relationship between personality traits and the parameters of certain social networks is investigated directly through data collection by precise questionnaire surveys. First, social network analysis is employed to calculate multiple parameters of the networks. Then, a correlation analysis is conducted on the relationship between the personality traits and the parameters. The results show that some network parameters are in consistent with the students’ personality traits. Results also reveal that the parameters of the respondents who mark themselves as “extroverted” are much closer to those of respondents who mark themselves as “neutral” than “introverted”.

A Study on Numerical Calculation Method of Small Cluster Density in Percolation Model  [PDF]

Percolation theory deals with the numbers and properties of the clusters formed in the different occupation probability. In this Paper, we study the calculation method of small clusters. We calcu-lated the small cluster density of 1, 2 and 3 in the percolation model with the exact method and the numerical method. The results of the two methods are very close, which can be verified by each other. We find that the cluster density of all three kinds of small clusters reaches the highest value when the occupation probability is between 0.1 and 0.2. It is very difficult to get the analytical formula for the exact method when the cluster area is relatively large (such as the area is more than 50), so we can get the density value of the cluster by numerical method. We find that the time required calculating the cluster density is proportional to the percolation area, which is indepen-dent of the cluster size and the occupation probability.

In this paper, we analyze the field data of NBA star players. We choose 25 of them and download the data from the NBA official website. The data is statistically analyzed from all aspects: the position of the player, the location on the court, the time order of two points and three points and the combination of these elements. We get some results according to the analysis. For example, players of all five positions prefer to make shots right ahead the basketry; attempts of three points reach the climax during the third quarter; over the last five minutes of the game, the rate of the number of two-point attempts is the lowest and that of three-point attempts is the highest at the 46th minute.
A Comparative Study to Understanding about Poetics Based on Natural Language Processing  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper tries to find out five poets’ (Thomas Hardy, Wilde, Browning, Yeats, and Tagore) differences and similarities through analyzing their works on nineteenth Century by using natural language understanding technology and word vector model. Firstly, we collect enough poems from these five poets, build five corpus respectively, and calculate their high-frequency words, by using Natural Language Processing method. Then, based on the word vector model, we calculate the word vectors of the five poets’ high-frequency words, and combine the word vectors of each poet into one vector. Finally, we analyze the similarity between the combined word vectors by using the hierarchical clustering method. The result shows that the poems of Hardy, Browning, and Wilde are similar; the poems of Tagore and Yeats are relatively close—but the gap between the two is relatively large. In addition, we evaluate the stability of our approach by altering the word vector dimension, and try to analyze the results of clustering in a literary (poetic) perspective. Yeats and Tagore possessed a kind of mysticism poetics thought, while Hardy, Browning, and Wilde have the elements of realism combined with tragedy and comedy. The results are similar comparing to those we get from the word vector model.
A Study of Exercise Intensity Based on Individual’s BMI and Heart Rate  [PDF]

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to explore if individuals of different BMI can achieve a given intensity using the same exercise load. For the first part of our research, a survey was sent out to gather responses from people of various age groups. We asked their weight, height, and resting heart rate. We found out there was no correlation between BMI and heart rate. We also designed an experiment to study the relationship between BMI and exercise intensity. The result shows people with higher BMI need more exercise load in order to match the exercise intensity of people with lower BMI.
Two Methods for Calculating the Size Distribution of Ferritin’s Outer Diameter  [PDF]

Abstract: Ferritin is a kind of iron-storage protein widely found in animals and plants. The dynamic light scattering (Dynamic Light Scattering) method is used in the laboratory to determine the ferritin size. This paper presents two methods for calculating the outer diameter size distribution of ferritin, both of which assume that ferritin is approximately spherical. The ferritin data file was obtained from the PDB website and was calculated using the coordinate data of the amino acids to which the amino acids belong. The first method is based on the calculation of the sphere center; the second method is based on the method of the farthest distance atom pair. The outer diameter size distribution curves obtained by the two methods are basically consistent with the experimental methods. The paper also compares the calculation results and performance of the two methods. Both methods are versatile and can be used to calculate the size distribution of the globular proteins.

Abstract: This thesis research on nutritious balance of specific examples in Chinese recipes applying diversity indices and cluster analysis. Initially, based on data of the nutritional ingredients of food, such as proteins, fat and vitamins, we categorize 1200 kinds of specific food using cluster analysis; then, according to a recipe given by a local restaurant, we calculate and compare the diversity indices based on the components of 25 single dishes in the recipe and analyze the nutritious balance of each dish.

Abstract: This research parsed entries of eight contemporary art journals from 1960 to 2015 by Natural Language Processing (NLP) and got 7000 words. These words were then analyzed by three methods: 1) word frequency, 2) word frequency trend analysis based on linear regression, and 3) word frequency variation model analysis based on curve clustering. The data were classified into a five-category set and a ten-category set, along with a ten-word-frequency-variation-model. Based on the above data study, this paper analyzed the resulted trends from political, economical, technological and art perspectives. The conclusion is that hot topics in American contemporary art vary with contemporary social backgrounds.

Abstract: Exercise and diet are two major factors that can cause change to the structure or the biodiversity of human gut microbiota. In this manuscript we have studied relationship between fitness intensity and dietary pattern to intestinal flora by evaluating case studies and analyzing data. We found that if only a single factor was considered, the correlation between diet pattern and individual intestinal flora was higher than that of body strength and individual intestinal flora. If they consider both the correlation between the two and individual intestinal flora, the correlation between fitness intensity was even higher.
A New Method for Calculating the Nutrition Balance of the Food Package  [PDF]

Abstract: Based on the previously published research on the nutritional balance of single recipes based on the fragrance index, this paper proposes a simple diet nutrition balance calculation method based on overlap rate. We calculated and compared the combination of any two of the 25 dishes based on the overlap rate method, which is the nutritional balance of the simple package. We also compared the overlap rate based method and the fragrance index based method for 6 simple packages. The results show that the results of the two methods have certain consistency. We also give a formula for calculating the nutritional balance of a simple package consisting of 3 dishes, which can be extended to a package consisting of more dishes.
