The discovery of aeschnidiid nymphs (Aeschnidiidae, Odonata, Insecta)

Abstract: Aeschnidiid nymphs are here first identified and described, and its phylogenetic relationship and bioecological characteristics are deduced. The nymphs known from China, Mongolia, Russia and Brazil and arranged in the family Aeschnidiidae are, in fact, unrelated to this group. All the known five Chinese species in four genera which were erected based on fossil nymphs and placed in the family Gomphidae may be transferred in Aeschnidiidae and merged into one alone, theSinaeschnidia cancellosa. It is a geographically widespread species from the “Jehol biota” of East Asia and appeared in the latest Late Jurassic age.

Abstract: A pair of fly impressions is described as a new species of a new genus, Orientisargus illecebrosus gen. et sp. n., referred to a new family Orientisargidae fam. n. within Archisargoidea of Brachycera, Diptera. The systematic position of Orientisargidae is discussed. Daohugosargus gen. n. is proposed for Sharasargus eximius KY Zhang et al., 2008. Uranorhagionidae is a junior synonym for Archisargidae. Meanwhile, Mostovskisarginae is a junior synonym for Uranorhagionidae. Mostovskisargus JF Zhang, 2010 and Strenorhagio KY Zhang et al., 2010 are synonymized with Uranorhagio KY Zhang et al., 2010. Uranorhagio includes three species: Uranorhagio asymmetricus (KY Zhang et al., 2010), comb. n., U. daohugouensis KY Zhang et al., 2010 and U. deviatus (KY Zhang et al., 2010), comb. n. Strenorhagio grimaldi KY Zhang et al., 2010 is synonymous with U. deviatus. Mostovskisargus portentosus JF Zhang, 2010, M. signatus JF Zhang, 2010 and Strenorhagio conjugovenius KY Zhang et al., 2010 are synonymous with U. asymmetricus. Brevisolva KY Zhang et al., 2010 is a junior synonym for Mesosolva Hong, 1983. A new specific name, Mesosolva zhangae nom. n., is proposed for Brevisolva daohugouensis KY Zhang et al., 2010. Mesosolva jurassica KY Zhang et al., 2010 should be synonymized under M. sinensis KY Zhang et al., 2010. Sinallomyia nom. n. is proposed for Allomyia Ren, 1998. The systematic positions for Helempis eucalla Ren, 1998, H. yixianensis Ren, 1998, Pauromyia oresbia Ren, 1998 and Sinallomyia ruderalis (Ren, 1998) are reassessed. These taxa belong to Archisargidae rather than to Tabanidae, Rhagionidae and Protempididae, respectively.

Abstract: Under amplitude damping channel, the dependence of the entanglement on the initial states and , which reduce to four orthogonal Bell states if we take the parameter of states are investigated. We find that the entanglements for different initial states will decay along different curves even with the same acceleration and parame-ter of the states. We note that, in an inertial frame, the sudden death of the entanglement for will occur if , while it will not take place for for any α. We also show that the possible range of the sudden death of the entanglement for is larger than that for . There exist two groups of Bell state here we can’t distinguish only by concurrence.
How Teachers’ and Students’ Mindsets in Learning Have Been Studied: Research Findings on Mindset and Academic Achievement  [PDF]

Abstract: Empirical research on mindset has indicated that mindset can predict numerous individual achievement, including academic, cognitive, motivational, affective and even socioeconomic, through mediation of social-cognitive approaches. The purpose of this paper is to compile and synthesize articles published from 1998 to 2017 on the relationship between mindset and academic achievement and explore the role of mindset in academic achievement. The studies indicate that students’ mindsets play several roles of cause and mediator in academic achievement. Mindset can also be an outcome of students’ academic achievement. Furthermore, in some studies, the relationship between mindset and achievement is non-correlational. Meanwhile, teachers’ mindsets play the role of cause or mediator in students’ academic achievement, but no role of outcome. Limitations and recommendations for future studies are discussed.

Alternating Direction Algorithms for $\ell_1$-Problems in Compressive Sensing

Abstract: In this paper, we propose and study the use of alternating direction algorithms for several $\ell_1$-norm minimization problems arising from sparse solution recovery in compressive sensing, including the basis pursuit problem, the basis-pursuit denoising problems of both unconstrained and constrained forms, as well as others. We present and investigate two classes of algorithms derived from either the primal or the dual forms of the $\ell_1$-problems. The construction of the algorithms consists of two main steps: (1) to reformulate an $\ell_1$-problem into one having partially separable objective functions by adding new variables and constraints; and (2) to apply an exact or inexact alternating direction method to the resulting problem. The derived alternating direction algorithms can be regarded as first-order primal-dual algorithms because both primal and dual variables are updated at each and every iteration. Convergence properties of these algorithms are established or restated when they already exist. Extensive numerical results in comparison with several state-of-the-art algorithms are given to demonstrate that the proposed algorithms are efficient, stable and robust. Moreover, we present numerical results to emphasize two practically important but perhaps overlooked points. One point is that algorithm speed should always be evaluated relative to appropriate solution accuracy; another is that whenever erroneous measurements possibly exist, the $\ell_1$-norm fidelity should be the fidelity of choice in compressive sensing.

A Two-Wheeled Self-Balancing Robot with the Fuzzy PD Control Method

Abstract: A two-wheeled self-balancing robot with a fuzzy PD control method is described and analyzed as an example of a high-order, multiple-variable, nonlinear, strong-coupling, and unstable system. Based on a system structure model, a kinetic equation is constructed using Newtonian dynamics and mechanics. After a number of simulation experiments, we get the best , , and state-feedback matrices. Then a fuzzy PD controller is designed for which the position and speed of the robot are inputs and for which the angle and angle rate of the robot are controlled by a PD controller. Finally, this paper describes a real-time control platform for the two-wheeled self-balancing robot that controls the robot effectively, after some parameter debugging. The result indicates that the fuzzy PD control algorithm can successfully achieve self-balanced control of the two-wheeled robot and prevent the robot from falling.
