Potential of non-pathogenic Fusarium oxysporum isolates for control of Fusarium wilt of tomato
Silva, Juliano C. da;Bettiol, Wagner;
Fitopatologia Brasileira , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-41582005000400012
Abstract: this study was done to evaluate the efficiency of non-pathogenic fusarium oxysporum isolates (141/3, 233, 233/1, 245, 245/1, 251, 251/2, 251/5, and 257) in controlling vascular wilt caused by f. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici, race 2 (isolates c-21a, to11, and to245) in tomato (lycopersicon esculentum) cv. viradoro seedlings. in order to determine the effect of non-pathogenic f. oxysporum isolates in tomato plants, the root system of 30-day-old seedlings was immersed in conidial suspensions (106 ml-1) of each isolate and the seedlings were transplanted to a cultivation substrate. thirty-five days after transplanting it was observed that the non-pathogenic f. oxysporum isolates were not pathogenic to the cv. viradoro nor did they affect seedling development. the efficiency of the non-pathogenic f. oxysporum isolates in controlling fusarium wilt was determined by immersing the tomato seedling roots in the conidial suspension (106 ml-1) of each isolate and then transplanting them into substrates previously infested with isolates of f. oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici, race 2 (105 conidia ml-1 of substrate). evaluations were performed 35 days after transplanting, for severity in scale with 1=healthy plant to 6=dead plant or plant showing vessel browning and wilted leaves up to the leader shoot and seedling height. the non-pathogenic f. oxysporum isolates were efficient in reducing the severity of the disease and maintaining normal plant development. these results provide evidence of the antagonistic activity of non-pathogenic f. oxysporum isolates in controlling vascular wilt caused by f. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici race 2 in tomato.

Abstract: Muscle power is one of the most important physical qualities of soccer playerperformance and needs to be maintained during a match. Thus, the aim of this study was toinvestigate the levels of muscle power in soccer players before and after performing repeatedsprints (RS), and the association between power and RS performance. Twenty soccer playersfrom the under-20 category aged 18-20 years participated in this study. The study consisted ofthe execution of vertical jumps, execution of RS, new execution of vertical jumps, and collectionof blood samples. The continuous jump (CJ) test was performed on a piezoelectric force platformfor the measurement of muscle power and the RAST test was used to evaluate RS ability. Nosignificant difference in the levels of muscle power was observed after RS (p=0.57). Significantdifferences were observed in the first to fifth sprint times (p<0.01), but not between the fifth andsixth sprint (p=0.06). CJ height before RS was correlated with first sprint time (r=-0.62, p<0.01),best sprint time (r=-0.60, p<0.01), and average sprint time (r= -0.54, p<0.01). In conclusion,the soccer players studied showed no significant reduction in muscle power after RS. A decreasein performance was observed from the first to the fifth sprint, but not between the fifth and sixthsprint. The muscle power of soccer players was a determinant factor to perform one maximumsprint, as well as successive sprints.
Avalia??o aeróbia no futebol
Silva, Juliano Fernandes da;Dittrich, Naiandra;Guglielmo, Luiz Guilherme Antonacci;
Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria & Desempenho Humano , 2011, DOI: 10.5007/1980-0037.2011v13n5p384
Abstract: physical assessments are fundamental for the control and improvement of the performance of soccer players. in this respect, field and laboratory tests are commonly used to evaluate physical fitness in this sports modality. however, it is important to choose the appropriate protocol according to the objectives of the assessment. thus, the aim of the present study was to perform a critical-narrative review of the aerobic assessment of soccer players, including physiological indices and field and laboratory tests. with respect to the aerobic indices identified in this review, maximal oxygen uptake, anaerobic threshold, and running economy were found to contribute to the development of training programs and help monitor their effects in soccer players. however, the anaerobic threshold is the index most sensitive to the effects of training and also better discriminates performance among athletes of different competitive levels. regarding field tests, the carminatti test (tcar) and yo-yo intermittent recovery level 1 (yyir1) test are the most suitable tests for the aerobic assessment of soccer players considering their specificity, validity and reproducibility. however, the tcar permits the direct transfer of indicators of aerobic power and capacity to the training sessions, whereas the yyir1 mainly explores the distance covered, which partly limits this transfer.
