Brazilian Journal of Microbiology , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-83822005000200014
Abstract: ribosomal operons are great tools for microbe community characterization and for microorganisms relationship study, particularly in the case of the acid lactic bacteria. the ribosomal operon of the probiotic strain lactobacillus delbrueckii ufv h2b20 was partially characterized. a genomic library of this strain was constructed and the clones with partial ribosomal operon were sub-cloned using the shot-gun method for subsequent sequencing with the forward primer. the sequence analysis revealed that the 3' end of the rdna 16s was following by the short spacer region 1 (16s-23s) and that the 3' end of the rdna 23s was following by the short spacer region 2 (23s-5s), which preceded the rdna 5s. in the flanking region of the rdna 5s gene of this operon rrn, a region encoding six trnas was detected.

Abstract: the cutter ants show preference for some vegetable species, which are constantly defoliated, while others are not attacked, although they are abundant and located close to the nest. the ants of the goods atta and acromyrmex cut plants and they transport pieces to the anthills. the vegetable material is used for the cultivation of the mushroom leucoagaricus gongylophorus, mushroom from of which theyfeed. several works using extracts of plants have been accomplished to evaluate the effect on the development of the mushroom symbiont. the objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of added culture means of different extracts on the growth of the l. gongylophorus mushroom. where mushrooms of the species acromyrmex ambiguus, acromyrmex crassispinus, acromyrmex heyeri and acromyrmex lundi were inoculated in the means nutritious ágar and bda, both added of molasses and extracts of lolium multiflorum lam., typha angustifolia l. and ant (atta sexdens piriventris). the pagnocca medium was used as pattern. the plates were maintained in cameras acclimatized to the temperature of 25 + 1°c and 24 hours of darkness, for a period of 49 days. the fungal growth was evaluated with base in the diameter of the colony, which was accomplished with weekly intervals, totalizing seven evaluations. also the dry weight was evaluated from the mushroom to the 53 days. the results showed that the mushroom cultivated by different species of ants has differentiated growth in culture means with different extracts.
This paper applies an empirical approach to estimate the quality of life in Brazilian metropolitan areas which is alternative to the hedonic approach. The revealed preference approach (Kahn, 2005) was applied to obtain evidences of the quality of life in metropolitan regions, assuming that the differences in wages and costs of housing, which tend to persist among the regions of a country, reveal the quality of the amenities offered by those regions. Based on that assumption, a ranking of metropolitan areas with respect to quality of life was structured based on nominal wage and rent roll and according to Kahn (1995): Belém, S o Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Salvador, Porto Alegre, Fortaleza, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte.

Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2012.48071
Abstract: This study aims to analyze the effects of nutrients and predation by zooplankton on phytoplankton biomass (chlorophyll a) in a eutrophic reservoir in Brazil (Apipucos Reservoir, State of Pernambuco), through experiments in microcosms. For this, samples of water were placed in 1 L Erlenmeyer flasks and kept for seven days. Treatments included the addition of nutrients (nitrogen combined with phosphorus and isolated additions of nitrogen and phosphorus), with presence and absence of zooplankton and a control which contained the reservoir water without any manipulation. The addition of nutrients did not stimulate phytoplankton growth. However, zooplankton significantly decreased phytoplankton biomass in the treatments it was added to (p < 0.05). The results of this study showed that for the reservoir studied, predation by zooplankton is the most significant factor in the regulation of phytoplankton, contradicting several studies which show that phytoplankton biomass is more strongly controlled by nutrients (bottom-up control) than by predation (top-down control).

Online Brazilian Journal of Nursing , 2007,
Abstract: The study investigated the knowledge produced by the Brazilian masters degree programs in Nursing about the elderly’s thematic, between 1979 and 2004. The bibliographical research consulted the summaries of dissertations and theses on elderly classified by the Center of Studies and Researches in Nursing. Of 118 found studies, 81% were dissertations and 19% were theses. Between 2000 and 2004 there was the largest presentations/defenses number (59) and the University of S o Paulo revealed the largest number of researches (43.6%). More than 70% of the authors used qualitative approach and about 58% approached the elderly individually, emphasizing him under the optics of some disease or disturbance (28%), and hospitalized elderly. Researches involving ethics or promoting your development social or intellectual was not evidenced. It’s ended that gaps exist in the Brazilian nurse’s scientific production, that should seek better contribution in the search of solutions for the problems of the elderly population.
As amenidades naturais influenciam a escolha locacional dos trabalhadores? evidências para as regi?es metropolitanas brasileiras
Rocha, Roberta de Moraes;Magalhes, André Mato;
Revista Brasileira de Estudos de Popula??o , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-30982011000200008
Abstract: the article shows evidence of the importance of the natural attributes of metropolitan regions (mr) of brazil in workers′ location choices. the analysis is based on the roback location choice model (1982). the model was used to derive the value placed by workers on living in localities that offer them consumption of natural amenities. the main results of the survey show that workers are willing to pay to live in mrs closer to the sea, with higher annual average rainfall rates, in more humid mrs, or with higher average temperatures in january. on the other hand, the offset for workers to live in mrs with higher average rainfall rates in september or higher average temperatures in july should be monetary compensation.

Abstract: in this paper we describe the synthesis of 2′,4′-dimethoxy-8-(propyl-2-one)-deoxybenzoin, a new compound employed as a model for the comparison with the respective spectral data for 6',4-dihydroxy-3'-(3,3- dimethylallyl)-2",2"-dimethylchromene(5",6":5',4')-2'-methoxy-8-(propyl-2-one) deoxybenzoin, recently isolated from deguelia hatschbachii a.m.g. azevedo. both compounds have a "propyl-2-one" group attached to c-8 of the deoxybenzoin skeleton, for which there is no precedent in the literature. the friedel-crafts reaction of 1,3-dimethoxybenzene with phenylacetyl chloride furnished 2′,4′-dimethoxydeoxybenzoin, that after reaction with allyl bromide gave 2′,4′-dimethoxy-8-(allyl)-deoxybenzoin . wacker oxidation gave the desired model compound in 15% overall yield. the corresponding spectral data reinforced the structure previously determined for the natural product.

Abstract: because an enriched environment (ee) enhances t-cell activity and t-lymphocytes contribute to immunopathogenesis during heterologous dengue virus (denv) infections, we hypothesised that an ee increases dengue severity. to compare single serotype (ss) and antibody-enhanced disease (aed) infections regimens, serial intraperitoneal were performed with denv3 (genotype iii) infected brain homogenate or anti-denv2 hyperimmune serum followed 24 h later by denv3 (genotype iii) infected brain homogenate. compared aed for which significant differences were detected between the ee and impoverished environmental (ie) groups (kaplan-meyer log-rank test, p = 0.0025), no significant differences were detected between the ss experimental groups (kaplan-meyer log-rank test, p = 0.089). survival curves from ee and ie animals infected with the aed regimen were extended after corticoid injection and this effect was greater in the ee than in the ie group (kaplan-meyer log-rank test, p = 0.0162). under the aed regimen the ee group showed more intense clinical signs than the ie group. dyspnoea, tremor, hunched posture, ruffled fur, immobility, pre-terminal paralysis, shock and death were associated with dominant t-lymphocytic hyperplasia and presence of viral antigens in the liver and lungs. we propose that the increased expansion of these memory t-cells and serotype cross-reactive antibodies facilitates the infection of these cells by denv and that these events correlate with disease severity in an ee.
