Abstract: objective: investigate the prevalence of suspected cases of common mental disorders in a population assisted by one professional team of the brazilian family health program as well as to evaluate its associated factors. methods: a cross-sectional survey study was carried out using a randomized systematic sampling procedure for selecting 277 subjects from the target population. for data collection, two instruments were administered to the sample, the self report questionnaire (srq-20) as well as a sociodemographic questionnaire. results: the global prevalence of cases suspected of presenting common mental disorders in the target population was of 43.70%. females had a significantly higher prevalence rate (48.37%), when compared to males (34.41%). the variable "family income" had an inverse relation to the common mental disorders prevalence. the logistic regression analysis indicated that only two variables - "use of medication" and "family income" - were significantly associated to common mental disorders. conclusions: the results indicated a higher prevalence of common mental disorders in this target-population, compared to data from other similar studies, indicating the need for a special attention to be rendered by the primary health care system to detect and treat those cases in families attended by the brazilian family health program, specially those characterized by the associated factors detected.

Abstract: street-vending of ready-to-eat (rte) foods can be a risk to the consumers health, since people usually involved in this activity does not have proper knowledge in safe handling of foods. despite this, only a few studies have been made on the microbiological quality of these foods and places where they are prepared. in this paper we report on the higienic-sanitary quality of hot-dogs sold by street-vendors from pelotas,rs. samples of hot-dogs, water and work surfaces, were collected from 60 street-vending places and taken to the laboratory for analysis. counts of aerobic mesophilic bacteria (tpc), staphylococcus coagulase positive (scp), total coliforms (tc) and coliforms at 45oc (fc) were made on samples of hot-dogs. spc, tc and fc counts were made on the water and surface samples. among the 60 samples of hot-dogs 53%, 48%, 37% and 25% were found unsatisfactory for tc, tpc, sta and fc, respectively. only 3 (5%) water samples were found unsatisfactory according to the tpc standard used, and 27% and 23% did not read the standards for tc and fc. regarding the surfaces, 70% were found unsatisfactory for tpc, 68% for tc and 67% for fc. salmonella sp was not detected in any of the samples tested. these results suggest that the hygiene practices of many food street-vending places are not adequate, resulting in a high proportion of read-to-eat rte) foods with microbiological quality unsatisfactory for consumption.

Abstract: atypical glandular cells are a common finding in cervical cytology in cervical cancer screening and its occurrence has increased in the last decades. the identification of these cells is clinically very important due to its association with cervical and endometrial dysplasic lesions and cancer. using a systematic approach, this article reviewed studies investigating cervical lesions that are characteristic in patients previously diagnosed as having atypical glandular cells. studies in which diagnostic investigation did not include histopathological diagnosis were excluded. a comprehensive search for available material in lilacs, scielo, pubmed/ medline and old medline databases, dated between 1966 and 2009 was performed. articles omitted by the electronic database search were also included. nineteen articles met the inclusion criteria and were selected. this report aims at evaluating whether atypical glandular cells, initially found in cervical cytology and subsequently identified at the histological analysis, are related to the presence of benign, pre-malignant and malignant lesions. eleven out of 19 selected articles showed the highest correlation between atypical glandular cells with benign diseases and six with squamous pre-malignant lesions.

Education, as one of the basis of personal and professional development, increasingly becomes the object of study in contemporary times. This is even more necessary when referring to a discipline such as sociology, still in its infancy in the school context. Then, it is important to understand the teaching practices that teachers use while conducting their jobs, as well as their working conditions as they perform their activities. Taking into consideration that the teacher is a plural and heterogeneous person, we think that other teachers, with other academic backgrounds, can teach the subject, because teacher training is not the only element that is able to guide everyday practices in the classroom, although not discarded in order to teach. This is because the habitus is built by the teaching practice experiences, the provisions acquired throughout professional career. The teachers’ knowhow, therefore, acquires a central role to think about the consolidation of a discipline that for years did not belong to the high school curriculum. Our objective therefore is to elucidate a debate on the construction of teaching habitus, and the importance of initial formation in Sociology teaching.

Autopsy and Case Reports , 2012,
Abstract: This report describes the case of a 39-year-old male patient who presented to the emergency room with complaints of impaired balance, diplopia, and nasal voice. The patient had a history of upper respiratory tract infection. The initial physical examination revealed ataxia, ophthalmoplegia, and areflexia, which are consistent with the classic triad of Miller Fisher syndrome, considered a benign variant of Guillain-Barré syndrome. The patient developed peripheral facial paralysis during hospitalization. He underwent a treatment with immunoglobulin for five days, resulting in near complete resolution of the ataxia. However, the ophthalmoplegia and areflexia persisted. He was discharged to outpatient follow-up.

Revista PRETEXTO , 2009,

Abstract:

The importance-performance analysis method (IPA) is used in market research in order to measure the level of customer satisfaction. The aim of this study was to evaluate and highlight the use of IPA as a management tool to measure quality of dental services. We suggest that this method can be easily implemented in a dental educational setting, as a performance outcome measure that includes patient input. The study was conducted in a dental service through a valid questionnaire, SERVQUAL. This instrument explores levels of service quality perceived by patients. It was conducted in four companies in Brazil in 2011 (derived from different industry segments; two from textiles, one from hospital care and the other from the manufacturing industry) in two States (S?o Paulo and Minas Gerais). These companies were covered by the same dental managed care organization which contracted with independent dentists to provide care. The study was divided into two stages: the first, in which beneficiaries answered the questionnaire prior to receiving dental treatment, and the second when the same beneficiaries answered after completing their dental treatment. Data obtained from SERVQUAL generated graphs

that were used to characterize the IPA matrix using several dimensions of care. The Assurance Dimension had the highest average in both expectation and perception. The Reliability dimension showed the value of the most negative GAP among the dimensions, and the best value occurred in the Responsiveness dimension. The IPA tool may be effective in Dental Medicine since it highlights the key points to be improved in the delivery of dental services in a clinical setting.

Abstract: Cytogenetic analysis requires cytological preparations that unequivocally reveal the chromosome number and permit optimal visualizations of chromosome morphology for the construction of karyotypes and ideograms. Chromosomal characterization is possible only by establishing these two parameters. To cytogenetically characterize the weed Conyza bonariensis (L.) Cronquist (Asteraceae), it was necessary to improve cytological analysis techniques to obtain optimal results. This species belongs to a genus whose plants have wide phenotypic plasticity. These plants can be morphologically differentiated by other types of analysis, and thus the application of this technique will serve as a reference for cytogenetical analysis of other groups of plants that have cytogenetic characteristics similar to those of C. bonariensis. The methodology described here highlights three main protocol steps: 1) root tip collection from newly germinated seed radicles and from young root tips of mature plants, 2) pretreatment of meristems with antimitotic agents, both isolated and combined, and 3) acid and enzymatic hydrolytic processes.
