Dayrell, Juarez;Gomes, Nilma Lino;Leo, Geraldo;

Abstract: the social participation of young people depends on the way society provides opportunities in which they can involve in participatory experiences and inform themselves about the possibilities in this field. based on the data of a national research about the social participation of the brazilian youth, this paper aims at discussing the role that young people school experience has fulfilled in this process belo horizonte metropolitan. according to the presented data, the schools have shyly acted in this field, which seems to result both from the conceptions that guide the school organization and the social reality that narrows the political and social participation of the brazilian young people. this paper presents data on the young people situation at belo horizonte metropolitan region and analyzes the youth representation towards the social participation demonstrated in the research. finally, it discusses the school role inciting participatory experiences among its students.

Abstract: this paper presents some results of research conducted with young high school students in the state of pará (brazil). by using the methodology of focus groups, this study discusses school reality from the perspective of youth. it analyzes the relationship they established between their life projects and how school contributes to achieve them. the investigation revealed a great diversity of youth projects. it highlighted both the strategies developed according to social contexts and age and a given at itude towards the future, which is an expression of a socio-cultural landscape marked by uncertainties. these youngsters place many expectations in school, but they show how limited it is to meet their demands.
The evolution of the resistance of Staphylococcus aureus found on healthcare workers correlated with local consumption of antibiotics
Busato, César Roberto;Gabardo, Juarez;Leo, Maria Terezinha Carneiro;
Brazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-86702006000300006
Abstract: objective: correlate the evolution of the resistance of staphylococcus aureus collected from healthcare workers with the local consumption of antibiotics. materian and methods: open prospective research.study site. general reference hospital with 200 beds in a 700,000 inhabitant region, in ponta grossa, paraná, brazil. results: two collections (samples) of staphylococcus aureus isolates were obtained from healthcare-workers during an approximate four-year interval. samples 1 (n= 200) and 2 (n= 270) had this bacterium in 63 (32%) and 90 (33%) of the patients, respectively. at the same time, the annual consumption of antibiotics in ddd/1,000 patient-days was determined. the variation of resistance was significantly smaller (m.s.d.=12.11) for gentamycin (p<0.01) and (m.s.d.=9.22) for tobramycin (p<0.05). the correlation between variation in resistance and antibiotic consumption was not significant. workers studied in the two samples showed a significant (p<0.01) frequency (c2=10.44) for persistent nasal carriage and for non carriage. methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus was found in 12 (6%) patients of sample 1 and 11 patients (4%) of sample 2. conclusion: stability of resistance allows us to maintain therapeutic outlines. the variation in bacterial resistance in the twice-sampled population (n=105) indicated the selection pressure of the hospital environment. the resistance that was found is representative of the hospital microbiota; this relationship represents a biological model, based on the healthcare-workers' interaction with colonizing bacteria and nosocomial infections. new studies could improve this model for other bacteria, to determine the tendency for resistance and help guide the antibiotic use.
Jovens olhares sobre a escola do ensino médio
Leo, Geraldo;Dayrell, Juarez Tarcísio;Reis, Juliana Batista dos;
Cadernos CEDES , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-32622011000200006
Abstract: this paper discusses the results of a research carried out with students from the state of pará on the relations between the life projects of youth and public high schools. data were collected in 2009 through twelve dialogue groups with 245 students from two hinterlands cities (mojú and santarém) and the capital. these declarations allowed us to identify some of the schools' contributions to the concretization of their demands and expectations, as well as many gaps and dead ends. the text begins with a general discussion on the brazilian high school context and the relationship with youth. it then situates the specific reality of schools in pará, according to the youth's point of view, and tries to comprehend the distances and approximations between youth expectations and the experiences offered by their school.

Abstract: forty gilts, averaging 15,47 kg initial weight, allotted to a randomized complete block design, with five treatments: .49, .54, .59, .64 and .69% of total threonine, four replicates and two animals per experimental unit, were used to determine the threonine requirement for gilts from 15 to 30 kg. the experimental diets were formulated with corn, sorghum, and soybean meal and corn gluten meal, supplemented with minerals, vitamins and amino acids and supplied ad libitum to the animals. at the end of the experiment, with the animals averaging 33,36 kg live weight, blood samples were collected for serum blood urea analysis. the total threonine requirement determination was based on the performance and serum urea levels parameters, and was estimated by the quadratic and/or the broken line models. in the determination of the true digestible threonine requirement, a threonine basal diet coefficient of true ileal digestibility of 84,6% was used, where the synthetic threonine digestibility coefficient was considered to be 100% digestible. quadratic effects of dietary threonine levels on feed intake, feed: gain and blood serum urea were observed. however, for urea blood serum, the broken line model showed a better adjustment for threonine levels according to the observed results. the total threonine requirement was estimated in .60% and the true digestible threonine requirement was estimated in .53%.

Revista Brasileira de Zoologia , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-81752000000200012
Abstract: this paper describes the first nine juvenile stages of cyrtograpsus angulatus dana, 1851 obtained in laboratory conditions from three ovigerous females collected at "molhes da barra", rio grande, brazil (32os and 52ow). the main morphological features, the secondary sexual characters and the gills ontogeny were observed. twenty one individuals reached until the ninth juvenile stage. sexual dimorphism can be verified from the fourth juvenile stage and the number of gills are complete at the second juvenile stage.

Investiga??es em Ensino de Ciências , 2008,
Abstract: This paper analyzes the development of a future teachers’ group in a Teaching Practice course of Physics and Biology. During the course the students should propose a collective and interdisciplinary planning for a set of classes to be taught in basic teaching of a public school. We will try to show the evolution of the group and the teachers’ contributions, interpreting them from the point of view of Bion (1970), Ka s (1997) and Winnicott’s (1975). We will conclude with some considerations on teachers' initial formation.

Monteiro, José Juarez Ferreira;Le?a, Enide Eskinazi;Koening, Maria Luise;Macedo, Silvio José de;
Acta Botanica Brasilica , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33062010000400027
Abstract: this study reports the first occurrence of trichodesmiumthiebautii gomont ex gomont on the coast of northeastern brazil. samples were gathered during the rainy season (july 2005) and the dry season (november 2006) at six stations distributed along two perpendicular profiles of the coast of pernambuco (8o18's - 34o56'w and 8o32's - 35o00'w). t. thiebautii was found during both periods of the year and at the six collection stations, forming colonies in the form of clusters or more rarely, bundles, with straight cylindrical trichomes, quadratic or slightly longer cells, with widths between 5-10 μm and heights of 3-15 μm. the hydrological variables presented small variations, contributing to wide distribution of the species.
Aspectos teóricos das políticas de cidadania: uma aproxima??o ao Bolsa Família
Rego, Walquiria Leo;
Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64452008000100007
Abstract: this article has three objectives. the first is to point out very briefly the recent history of the rights and citizenship theories. the second is an attempt to understand the meaning of the tensions between the state and civil society, and political participation, market and distributive justice. this problematic whole is seen from the wider range of the democratic question. finally, the article sets out the connections between the normative basis of some citizenship theories in order to build up a framework for a research in course about the brazilian government income program (the "family grant") whose focus is poor women.
