Abstract: this study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different levels of digestible lysine in diets on the performance of piglets from 6 to 15 kg. one hundred and twenty piglets (80 castrated males and 40 females) were used. the piglets were allotted to a completely randomized block design, with five treatments (1.06, 1.16, 1.26, 1.36, and 1.46% of digestible lysine), eight replicates and three animals per experimental unit, kept in thermoneutral environment. the dietary level of digestible lysine did not affect daily feed intake. however, the digestible lysine intake, weight gain and body protein deposition increased linearly according to the dietary lysine levels. the dietary digestible lysine levels affected feed:gain ratio that reduced in a quadratic way until the estimated dietary digestible lysine level of 1.41%. the estimated level at least of 1.46% provided the higher weight gain and body protein deposition to piglets from 6 to 15 kg on thermoneutral environment.

Abstract: sixty-five crossbred sows (landrace x large white) averaging 217.36 ± 21.35 kg were used to evaluate increasing dietary total lysine levels (0.950, 1.025, 1.100, 1.175, and 1.250%) during 21 days of lactation. the experiment was analyzed as a randomized block design, with five treatments, 13 replicates of one sow per experimental unit. the daily total feed intake was fixed for all treatments. the dietary lysine levels did not affect sow weight at weaning, body weight loss, backfat thickness (bt), bt change, body fat loss, number of weaned piglets per litter and weaning-to-estrus interval. however, there was a linear decrease on body protein loss expressed as kg and percentage and on daily milk production of sows, as the dietary lysine levels increased. the treatments affected litter weight gain, that decreased linearly. the results of this work showed that sows fed decreasing lysine levels retained significant amounts of body protein reserve to maintain their productive performance. however, the protein mobilization of these animals (2.2 kg corresponding to 6.45% of body protein loss) was not enough to affect the productive and reproductive performance. it was concluded that a daily total lysine intake of 45 g, correspondent of 40 g of digestible lysine meets the requirements for productive and reproductive performance of lactating sows and that they require 58.9 g of estimate total lysine/day, that corresponds to 53.5 g/day of digestible lysine to minimize body protein loss during the lactation.

Abstract: the objetive of this experiment was to evaluate a system of thermal artificial condition for gestation sow housing, at ponte nova-mg. a total of 95 cambourough 22? sows from the second parturition were assigned to two treatments. forty-six sows of treatment one were submitted, during the first 35 days of gestation, to a system of controlled thermal artificial condition (fans and aspersion) which were automatically turned on according to the air temperature (vfn). in treatment two, during the same period 49 sows of the same variety as the first ones were submitted to any artificial thermal condition (svfn). from 35 days on of gestation to the parturition, all the animals received the same management. the average room temperature for treatments vfn and svfn were 22.6oc and 23.4oc, respectively. during the hottest hours of the day, this system was efficient to reduce the temperature by 2oc. in spite of such difference, the system could not reduce the room temperature to an adequate level to these animals (18-21oc). for this reason the animals showed high breathing frequency in both treatments, but this was capable to maintain the body temperature of the sows. there were no differences on the evaluated parameters of reprodutive efficiency and progesterone levels. that is why the ventilation and nebulization systems during the autumn is not justified since the temperatures at this time of the year is not high enough to take the animals to a stress condition which could directly affect their reproductive performance.

Abstract: sixty pluriparous sows (average of four farrowing) from commercial line, with initial weight of 262.7 ± 22.50 kg, were used to evaluate the effect of digestible threonine levels on productive and reproductive performance during 16.02 ± 1.17 days of lactation. the animals were distributed to a completely randomized design, with 4 diets and 15 replications, considering the sow the experimental unit. the diets were formulated with four levels of digestible threonine (0.608, 0.646, 0.684 or 0.722%), the corresponding to 64, 68, 72 and 76% respectively, with digestible lysine ratio). digestible threonine levels did not influence feed consumption, which were 4.7 kg/anim.day. the individual daily digestible threonine consumption ranged from a linear fashion among the threonine levels. there was no effect of dietary digestible threonine levels on productive and reproductive performance of lactating sows. the level of 0.608%, corresponding to digestible threonine: digestible lysine ratio of 64%, meets the digestible requirements of threonine of sows in the lactating period.

Abstract: an experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of cp intake during gestation on productive and reproductive performance of pregnant sows of 4th or 5th parturition orders. a total of 25 crossbred sows averaging 189.0±16.46 kg at 4th parity order was allotted to a completely randomized experimental design with three treatments (10, 13.5, and 17% of cp) and 18, 15 and 12 replicates, and each sow was considered an experimental unit. no treatment effects on sow weight gain from mating to 110 days of gestation and from mating to parity, on weights at parity and weaning, backfat thickness gain during gestation and backfat thickness loss during lactation were observed. the dietary cp level of 13.5% provided the best energetic balance for sows, the highest number of piglets born alive, the highest average piglet weight at weaning, the highest litter weight at parity and weaning and the highest litter average daily weight gains. the energetic balance in the productive process was more efficient in sows fed diets with 13.5% of cp. the best dietary cp level for sows of 4th or 5th parity orders in the gestation is of 13.5%, that is correspondent to a daily intake of 312 g of cp.

Abstract: this study was carried out to evaluate the effect of environmental temperature on performance, carcass composition and physiological parameters of pigs from 30 to 60 kg of weight. thirty six barrow (landrace x large white) with initial weight of 29.94 ± 0.49 kg, were assigned to a completely randomized experimental design with three treatments six replicates and two animals per experimental unity. the experimental period lasted 35 days. the treatments consisted of t1 animals on heat stress (32oc) fed ad libitum; t2 animals on thermal comfort (23oc) fed ad libitum; t3 animals on thermal comfort (23oc) pair feeding with treatment 1. environmental temperature reduced the feed intake however improved the feed:gain ratio and lysine efficiency utilization for gain of the animals on treatment 1 compared of those on the others treatments. fat deposition was lesser for swine maintained in treatments 1 and 3 than for those on treatment 2. however only animals on thermal comfort with pair feeding showed a decreasing protein deposition. the animals on heat stress showed lower fasting and carcass weights than those animals on thermal comfort with ad libitum feeding. the animals on heat stress showed fasting and carcass weights higher than those with pair feeding. the treatments did not affect carcass yield and relative weights of the evaluated organs, exception for stomach, that was smaller in t3. the physiological parameters (surface temperature and respiratory rate) were negatively affected by high temperature (t1). rectal temperature was not influenced by the treatments. it was concluded that in the growing phase high temperature decreased pig performance and maintained a protein deposition in carcass, and this effect is not limitant to decrease feed intake.

= The present technical notes aims to describe a nonlinear standard model (Gompertz deterministic and γ base exponential) for accumulated production of biogas in a network of anaerobic digester’s. In this way, some variation effects were modelled for biomass, water and inoculate quantities, considering the biogas production as well as reduction of total solids and volatile contents. It also includes the correction of biogas volumes for normal temperature and pressure conditions (200C, 1 atm).
