Abstract: the present study evaluated the effects of 5-ht1a receptor agonist 8-oh-dpat on the behavioral satiety sequence (bss) in rats. the 8-oh-dpat was administered via central in the hypothalamic ventromedial nucleus (vmn) in rats. the experimental subjects were kept under a dietary self-selection paradigm consisting of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. food and water were available all the time. intra-vmn administration of 5-ht1a agonist was associated with the selective increase in carbohydrate intake. the bss analysis revealed that the administration of 8-oh-dpat delayed the natural development of the bss. the results lead to the conclusion that 5-ht1a receptors in the nvh involved in the modulation of food intake, is discussed the possible involvement of interactions with other neurotransmitters systems.

Abstract: it is known that the 5-ht2c receptors are involved in the regulation of food intake. nevertheless, the relative role of selective and nonselective 5-ht2c receptor antagonists in the control of feeding behavior remains uncertain. in the present study, we examined the effects of serotonin (5-ht) on the feeding behavior patterns of rats pretreated with rs-102221 (5-ht2c receptor selective antagonist) or cyproheptadine (5-ht2c/2a receptor antagonist). the drugs were injected into the paraventricular hypothalamus nucleus (pvn). the animals were maintained in a self-selection feeding paradigm and provided with freely available and separate sources of protein, carbohydrate, fat, and water. the rats were kept at 21 ± 1°c on a 12 h light and 12 h dark cycle. our results indicate that more selective 5-ht2c antagonists induce a major blockade of the hypophagic effect produced by 5-ht in the pvn. both, selective and nonselective 5-ht2c receptors have shown participation in feeding behavior, mainly in the expression of satiation.

Abstract: the present study examined the effects of 5-ht1a/1b/2a2c receptor agonists on behavioral satiety sequences in rats (bss). the 8-oh-dpat (5-ht1a receptor agonist), cp-93129 (5-ht1b receptor agonist), sb242084+doi (5-ht2c receptor antagonist + 5-ht2a receptor agonist), and ro-60-0175 (5-ht2c receptor agonist) were injected into the paraventricular nucleus (pvn) of rats. the animals were maintained on an ad libitum feeding paradigm with access to water and individual sources of protein, carbohydrate, and fat. intra-pvn administration of each agonist was associated with decreased carbohydrate consumption. behavioral analysis indicated that administration of cp-93129 and sb242084+doi interrupted the natural bss with an increase in non-feeding behavior whereas the 8-oh-dpat and ro 600175 alone promoted early development of the natural bss. in conclusion, the 5-ht receptor agonists affected serotonergic modulation of feeding behavior in a functionally selective way.

In a recent study published in this journal, we use a quantification technique for the PET exploration that allows us the detection of areas of the brain with a pathological activity compared to a normative database. In our effort to check the effectiveness of the method diverse studies have been developed to verify the validity of the method. In the present experiment, we show an interesting result that confirms that is possible to observe the brain activity of a healthy control in different levels of arousal. In particular, the activity of frontal and parietal regions of the right hemisphere is enhanced as a consequence of an increased level of arousal compared to the relaxation state.

Functional neuroimaging studies allow knowing the localization of the diverse neurophysiological processes that are the substrate of psychological processes like memory, attention… Nevertheless, in order to do a clinic or scientific analysis of the relation between function and structure is necessary to develop quantification methods to probe the established hypothesis using statistical analysis. In this work we present a method that allow the quantification. This one was used in one Alzheimer disease patient and in one healthy person. This previous results invite to the application of the method in scientific studies and in clinical practice.

Introduction: dengue and its lethal form, that is, dengue hemorrhagic fever, has significantly increased in Las Americas, being the Aedes aegypti the main and the only transmitting vector till now. Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of K-Othrine WG250 (deltamethrin) in residual (perifocal) applications in rest sites and in breeding sites of Aedes aegypti. Methods: from February to June 2011, a perifocal residual treatment was applied in San Juan de Dios people′s council of "José Martí" university polyclinic in Camaguey. It was directed to rest and breeding sites of the vector, for which several areas comprising different number of non-adjacent and randomly chosen houses, with high and similar rates of infestation in the period before the treatment, were selected. The application of this treatment was based on the use of IKA-9 hand sprayers at a dose of 1 g/l of water, with fitted conical nozzle for three areas and with flat nozzles 80-

Abstract: Modeling of photovoltaic (PV) and wind farms (WF) stations to take into account these renewable energies into the power flow formulation are summarized. A strategy based on multi objective optimization in order to allocate PV and WF power into electrical power system is proposed. It is assumed that there are a reduced number of choices to allocate the stations. The algorithm is applied to the 39-bus test power system. The results show that the proposed algorithm is capable of optimal placement of renewable units.

The course structure arises from the need to integrate the subjects involved in an architectural project and from the recognition that a project is not the sum of disconnected and independent knowledge. Architecture is a multiple and complex activity, whilst being unique and personal. As opposed to the passive reception of information, architectural activity, like any other creative activity, forces a critical verification of our surroundings and the recognition of a global knowledge synthesis of an identity. Knowledge alone, classified by types and subjects, can never successfully respond to the wide and diverse problems of an activity that must provide solutions to a complex environment. The best teaching should closely simulate a professional architectural studio regarding the capacity to integrate different subjects. This is the global condition of education that affects everything which surrounds humankind, from technology to climate and culture, social behaviours, the memory or the senses.
