H3PW12O40 (HPA), an efficient and reusable catalyst for biodiesel production related reactions: esterification of oleic acid and etherification of glycerol
Sepúlveda, Jorge H.;Vera, Carlos R.;Yori, Juan C.;Badano, Juan M.;Santarosa, Daniel;Mandelli, Dalmo;
Química Nova , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-40422011000400009
Abstract: in esterification of oleic acid with methanol at 25 °c hpa displayed the highest activity. moreover the hpa could be reused after being transformed into its cesium salt. in the reaction of etherification of glycerol hpa and amberlyst 35w showed similar initial activity levels. the results of acid properties demonstrate that hpa is a strong protonic acid and that both surface and bulk protons contribute to the acidity. because of its strong affinity for polar compounds, hpa is also seemingly dissolved in both oleic acid and methanol. the reaction in this case proceeds with the catalyst in the homogenous phase.
Passerino, Liliana Maria;Santarosa, Lucila Costi M.;
Psicologia: Reflex?o e Crítica , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-79722007000100008
Abstract: the goal of this paper is to discuss the development of social interactions in virtual environments, specially considering the autism. the literature review is based on sociohistorical theory and main theoretical works about this condition. we start from a wide discussion about social interaction, its development and relation to autism characteristics, considering that the concept of intentional communication is fundamental to the analysis of social interaction of autistic subjects in virtual environments. furthermore, we present and discuss the data obtained from a case of study carried out with four subjects that suffer from different levels of autism. the study was developed as a two years of research applying several virtual environments. we also discuss the main results of this research.

Revista Educa??o Especial , 2012, DOI: 10.5902/1984686x5065
Antilisterial activity of lactic acid bacteria isolated from vacuum-packaged brazilian meat and meat products
Martinis, Elaine C.P. De;Públio, Márcia R.P.;Santarosa, Priscila R.;Freitas, Flávia Z.;
Brazilian Journal of Microbiology , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-83822001000100008
Abstract: twenty samples of brazilian meat and meat products were screened by the agar overlay method for bacteriocin-producing lactic acid bacteria, using lactobacillus sake atcc 15521 as indicator strain. based on gram staining, koh reaction, catalase test and fermentation of 49 carbohydrates (api 50 ch), three out of seven isolates with confirmed antagonist properties were identified as lactobacillus curvatus, one as leuconostoc mesenteroides and one as leuconostoc sp. two isolates could not be properly identified using these tests. the inhibitors produced by these strains were sensitive to proteases. inhibition due to lytic bacteriophages was ruled out, so the isolates were classified as bacteriocin-producing lactic acid bacteria. four of them presented antilisterial activity and a potential application as biopreservatives in meat systems.

Calculus in physics classes at UFRGS: an exploratory study
Maria Cecilia Pereira Santarosa,Marco Antonio Moreira
Investiga??es em Ensino de Ciências , 2011,
Abstract: This study is part f a larger one whose general objective is to investigate and to develop a new strategy for teaching Differential and Integral Calculus I, specifically for physics majors, through a possible integration with the teaching of General and Experimental Physics I. With the specific objective of identifying physics problem-situations that may help in making sense of the mathematical concepts used in Calculus I, and languages and notations that might be used in the teaching of Calculus to favor physics learning, it was investigates, through an ethnographic study, the may mathematics is transposed to classes of General and Experimental Physics I, in classes of physics courses at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Some findings of this study confirmed those reported in the literature regarding the teaching and learning process in introductory college physics courses. These findings will subsidize the preparation of potentially meaningful instructional materials that will be used in a second stage of the research designed to investigate the learning of declarative and procedural knowledge in basic college physics under an approach that integrates problem-situation in physics and calculus mathematical concepts.

Abstract: multiple fibrohistiocytic nodules in the spleen of a 7-year-old female rottweiler were reported. the diagnosis was made by histology and immunohistochemistry; cells were positive for ed1, cd18, vimentin and lysozyme. the dog was euthanatized three months after the tumor was diagnosed, due to severe clinical signs.
