Thermodynamic and Dynamic of Chromium Biosorption by Pectic and Lignocellulocic Biowastes  [PDF]
Luis Sala, Juan González
Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2010.210106
Abstract: Orange peel (OP) and rice husk (RH) were tested as low-cost biosorbents for Cr(III) removal from aqueous solutions. Dynamics of the biosorption process indicated that intraparticle mass transfer represents the rate-limiting step in the system that attained equilibrium at 120 min. While the OP sorbent material was capable of taking up 39.11 mg Cr(III)/g at the optimum pH 4.4, RH immobilized 3.20 mg Cr(III)/g at the optimum pH 3.0. The fitting of different sorption isotherms models resulted in the best fit with the Langmuir isotherm model. The mean free energy of the metal sorption process was in the range of 8-16 kJ/M. Abiotic Cr(VI) reduction was observed at various contact times and Cr-laden biomass was characterized by XPS, XAFS and EPR spectroscopy. These instrumental analyses confirmed that Cr(VI) removed from the solution was reduced and bound to the biomass as Cr(III). Results indicated that OP and RH materials are efficient biosorbents for eliminating Chromium from aqueous solutions.
Asymptotic behaviour of a porous medium equation with fractional diffusion
Luis Caffarelli,Juan Luis Vazquez
Mathematics , 2010,
Abstract: We consider a porous medium equation with nonlocal diffusion effects given by an inverse fractional Laplacian operator. In a previous paper we have found mass-preserving, nonnegative weak solutions of the equation satisfying energy estimates. The equation is posed in the whole space R^n. Here we establish the large-time behaviour. We first find selfsimilar nonnegative solutions by solving an elliptic obstacle problem with fractional Laplacian for the pair pressure-density, which we call obstacle Barenblatt solutions. The theory for elliptic fractional problems with obstacles has been recently established. We then use entropy methods to show that the asymptotic behavior of general finite-mass solutions is described after renormalization by these special solutions.
Iniciativa local y desarrollo: respuesta social a la globalización neoliberal
EURE (Santiago) , 2005, DOI: 10.4067/S0250-71612005009400002
Abstract: this paper presents a synthesis of the local development and adresses the place of the local in the development theory. it is proposed that the territory role is essential in the development of a community. territory is the ground for sens of belonging-based social arrangements of territorial actors. the paper is divided in four sections: a) the evolution of the "local" concept; b) the rise of local development; c) the approaches of local development; and d) a scheme that shows that local collective action and territory are conjugated through the territorial identity which is the basis for a local system structuration. it is proposed that local development programs should fertilize the territory, so that it becomes a launch pad for initiatives, projects and collective actions. for this, multiscale governance, a networking perspective and the interrelation among the local, the national and the world scales are required
Colonización agrícola y distribución de la riqueza inmobiliaria en la provincia de Santa Fe, Argentina, 1864-1875
Martirén, Juan Luis;
América Latina en la historia económica , 2012,
Abstract: the paper seeks to measure wealth distribution in the agricultural colonies of santa fe province, argentina from the 1860s to the 1880s. santa fe province is located in the pampean region, an area of fertile plains and the source of argentina's agricultural and economic development in the nineteenth century. using records from the contribución directa (a provincial tax on the individual wealth of each contributor) for fiscal years 1864, 1867, 1868 and 1875 (supplemented with records of the national census of 1869), we analyze the evolution of the spatial distribution of wealth in the older colonies and compare that variable with the satellite colonies that began to appear in the late 1860s. the goal is to show the unique patterns by which the colonization process led to changes in farm and land productivity.
La personalidad y sus trastornos desde una perspectiva sistémica
Linares,Juan Luis;
Clínica y Salud , 2007,
Abstract: personality may be defined as an individual dimension of relational experience, in a dialogue between past and present anchored in a double setting -the biological bases and the cultural frame. relational nurturing is the drive for personality shaping, starting from an account that secretes identity in a tight contact with the organization and the mythology of membership systems -especially the family. the two main dimensions defining this relational setting are conjugality and parentality. in this crossroad, three dysfunctional areas show up: triangulations, privations and chaos -the foundations of personality disorders.
Crónicas sobre la construcción de la ciudad
Pi?ón,Juan Luis;
Co-herencia , 2009,
Abstract: the city, since the consolidation of the modern state, has become consolidating like result from the delicate balance between publics and privates sectors. balance that has been broken by the new socioeconomic reality, cause of which political status quo has yielded all his power to the private sector. task that will be carry out trough the unfolding: either of the desregulators measures in urbanism subjects, or as well through the use and abuse of the denominated urban marketing, practice that will help to dissolve the urbanism practice, will reduce it to its architectural dimension and that will focus its interest into the architecture called show: the city rationality vanish between gestures and logos.
Evolución y resultados del sector agroalimentario en la V República
Hernández,Juan Luis;
Cuadernos del Cendes , 2009,
Abstract: this paper analyzes the main issues of the venezuelan agriculture and food sector during the last decade. based on the new regulatory framework created by the 1999 constitution, it examines the resources used and the results achieved by the main lines of policy implemented in this regard. it argues that the results are in no proportion to the resources employed, with very scanty achievements in the development of the internal production and the food-processing sovereignty, and limited advances in the elimination of the landowner power, even though with important improvements as to income in the rural areas. finally, it offers an overview of some existing threats to agriculture and requisites to attain a sustainable agricultural development.

Abstract: law n° 20,190 introduced in our legal system a new regulation for pledges without conveyance, allowing the possibility of creating it over rights, specifically over credits. detaching form the ordinary system contained in the civil code, which provides for the notification of the debtor of the pledged credit as a requirement for the perfection of the lien, the new model treats it as a mere formality of publicity, difference that solves a number of practical problems. but the following questions are how does the new model structure the way in which the security interest shall be foreclosed, and which specialties should be pointed out in reference to the regime provided for the ordinary pledges. the answer shall be fetched, in our opinion, differentiating the manner in which the contract is perfected and the methods for the foreclosure of the security interest, so that any difference regarding the first does not necessarily justify any distinctions regarding the latter.

Abstract: the traditional idea of the par condicio creditorum is of it as the expression of a public policy principle that governs and justifies the bankruptcy law. then, bankruptcy procedures are constructed as mechanisms that promote a fair solution for the asset distribution of the insolvent debtor, based upon the equal condition of all the creditors. such perspective must be revisited from the confirmation that the rule of pro rata distribution is not the only method for the coordination of the creditors' rights in a bankruptcy procedure, and, of course, it is neither the only fair rule, but it responds mainly to an economic requirement based on the lack of publicity of the credits, the possibility to dilute the losses and the associated costs.
Los bonos subordinados en el marco del sistema financiero chileno
Goldenberg Serrano,Juan Luis;
Revista de derecho (Valparaíso) , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-68512010000200009
Abstract: for a long time, the banking system reaching stability has been sought by means of the adequate combination of the banks′ own resources, expanding this concept to debt instruments that are functionally similar to capital. chilean law has attempted this assimilation only by means of subordinate bond issuance, following the model originally proposed by the basel committee of 1988. however, important progress regarding this matter has been made since then by means of a series of guidelines of the aforementioned committee and the european union that, so far, have not been accepted in our country. this article aims at accounting for the functional concept of these banks′ own resources and for the different models to legally articulate the subordinated financing. finally, its legal regime in chile will be explained.
