Abstract: objective: to determine the independent predictors of in-hospital death of hispanic patients with nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (nvugb). experimental design: prospective and observational trial. patients: in a period between 2000 and 2009, all patients with nvugb admitted to our hospital were studied. demographical and clinical characteristics, endoscopic findings and laboratory tests were evaluated χ2 and mann-whitney u analyses were performed for comparisons, and binary logistic regression was employed to identify independent predictors of in-hospital mortality. results: 1,067 patients were included, 65% male with a mean age of 58.8 years. mean number of comorbidities per patient was 1.6 ± 0.76. the most frequent cause of bleeding were gastric and duodenal ulcers (55.4%); 278 patients (25.8%) received endoscopic treatment of which 69.1% had combined therapy. rebleeding occurred in 36 patients (3.4%) of which 50% died. in-hospital mortality was 10.2%, of which only 3.1% was associated to bleeding. when comparing causes of death among patients with and without comorbidities, only hypovolemic shock was found significative (48.3 vs. 25%; p = 0.020). binary logistic regression found that the number of comorbidities, rockall scale score; serum albumin < 2.6 g/dl on admission; rebleeding and length of hospital stay were independent risk factors of in-hospital mortality. conclusion: the number of comorbidities, the rockall scale score, an albumin level < 2.6 g/dl, the presence of rebleeding and hospital stay were predictors of in-hospital mortality in patients with nvugb

Abstract: Natural processes in ecosystems shows significant variations in species richness with regular cycles that can be altered by natural or anthropogenic activities; the present research was in order to understand on some of these variations. The objectives were: 1) determine the species richness of rocky intertidal mollusks; 2) track their geographical distribution at State level; and 3) determine the changes in species richness as a result of rainfall on an annual cycle. For these purposes it was sampled in March, June, September and December 2005, the sampled area was 20 m2for each collecting site; the sampling unit was a PVC rectangle frame one by two meter per side. The mollusks found within the sampling units were collected, identified and counted. The species distribution was analyzed by sites and regions, considered species richness per season, and the distributional patterns by rainy season historical records. A total of 62 mollusks species were found, its richness associated with substrate stability and wave intensity on each site, Gastropods had the highest species richness. When analyzing the regional distribution and sites, it was found a pattern of species richness roughly constant in the proportion of species with wide distribution (generalists) versus those of restricted spatial representation (specialists). Gastropods had the highest number of species with restricted spatial representation. Seasonal rainfall differences did not quantitatively altered on the overall the species of mollusks in the rocky intertidal sampled zone however, in the analysis per Class, Gastropoda indicated changes in species richness influenced by rainfall, which were not observed in Bivalvia and Polyplacophora, suggesting that those changes might depend on adaptive processes or the lack of adaptation of gastropod species to the characteristics of the rocky intertidal habitat

An important part of the fishing activity in Mexico is carried out in the coastal strip and has a strong social, economic and ecological importance. In the state of Guerrero, mollusks fishing is coastal and craftwork activity focused on a small number of species and without information on biology and reproductive or ecological aspects for most species caught. This research was carried out in the Costa Chica region, Guerrero, Mexico and the aims were: 1) To analyze the socioeconomic features of cooperative societies of fishing production; and 2) To know the diversity of mollusks caught by coastal fishing and the species that have the greatest importance in fishing. From February to April 2013-2015, seven fish coop units, four piers and places where seafood is sold were visited. For the socio-economic analysis and the determination of the species that have more importance in the coastal fishing, a total of 67 surveys were applied. In order to determine the cast of species, the specimens captured by the fishermen were used, which were identified and counted. A total of 67 interviews were analyzed and an average of $1806.00 was estimated as weekly economic income just as a product of fishing, it was also estimated that on average the fishermen work 4.3 days a week. Fisheries cooperatives market most of their produce directly to restaurateurs and locals on the piers. Replacement of older adults by young fishermen from the same region was observed, most are adults between 22 and 39 years old. 25 species of mollusks of economic importance were registered for the coastal fishermen of the Costa Chica. Six species were identified as the main target for catching fishermen. The fishing of mollusks in Costa Chica is not subject to any type of control, which has led to overfishing reflected in the decline sizes and banks in populations of commercial importance.

Armida is product of breeding process that originated from a triple crossing made by National Research Forestry, Agriculture and livestock Institute of the national program for malt barley, at "Bajío" Experimental Field, is a variety that is tolerant to most of common diseases to malting barley under irrigation conditions, as well as, moderated tolerance to leaf rust (Puccinia hordei Otth.), high yield potential, industrial quality and shorter growing season than control variety Esperanza. The individual selections in segregating generations of Armida variety were held alternately in the Valle de Mexico and Bajío experimental fields. This variety was evaluated for eleven growing seasons with average experimental grain yields above 12% to commercial Esperanza variety.
Abstract: Not available.

On the decomposable semigroups and applications

Mathematics , 2010, DOI: 10.1016/j.jsc.2013.05.009
Abstract: The aim of this work is to reduce the complexity of the available algorithms for computing the generator sets of a semigroup ideal by using the Hermite normal form. In order to achieve it we introduce the concept of decomposable semigroup. If a semigroup is decomposable, the computation of its ideal is equivalent to compute the ideals of each semigroup in the decomposition, thus obtaining a reduction of the complexity of the algorithms. Furthermore, since these computations are mutually independent, they can be carried out in parallel. The concept of decomposable variety is introduced and a combinatorial characterization of decomposable semigroup is obtained. Some applications are also provided.
On convex polyhedron semigroups
Juan Ignacio García-García,Alberto Vigneron-Tenorio
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: Let $\mathbf{F}$ be bounded convex polyhedron of $\R^3_{\geq}$ and $\psi_k$ the homothety with center the origin and radius $k$. The convex polyhedron semigroup associated to $\mathbf{F}$ is the semigroup $\cup_{k\in\N}\psi_k(\mathbf{F})\cap \N^3$. In this work, we use topological and discrete geometrical tools to study this class of semigroups. We give conditions to know when one of these semigroups is finitely generated, we characterize the Cohen-Macaulay and Buchsbaum properties, and we provide a family of Gorenstein affine semigroups.
