Manufacturing Cells Formation Based on Graph Coloring  [PDF]
José Francisco Ferreira Ribeiro
Journal of Service Science and Management (JSSM) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/jssm.2010.34056
Abstract: A method for cellular manufacturing design in Group Technology is presented in this paper. The proposed method computes the dissimilarities between parts and organizes the production system in part-families and group-machines. A graph corresponding to the production system is generated and a coloring algorithm is activated in order to obtain a number of cells equal to the desired number of cells. The corresponding program was written in Matlab language and runs on a microcomputer. The results obtained on several examples found in the literature are consistently equivalent to or even better than those hitherto proposed, in terms of inter-cell moves and dimensions of the cells.
Exploration of an Agentic Construct that Impacts Health Behaviors in General Population  [PDF]
José L. Pais-Ribeiro
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2012.39106
Abstract: Hope is defined as the perceived capability to derive pathways to desired goals. The aims of the present study are to discuss hope as a self-regulation construct. Method: The study includes a convenience sample of 615 individuals from the community, 51.1% females. They fill a questionnaire that includes demographic information, disease behavior, health satisfaction, quality of life, and the Hope Scale. Results: Results suggest a statistically significant relation between hope and outcomes of good health. Conclusions: We can conclude that hope, especially agency thinking, can be an interesting variable to be considered in studies about subjective aspects of health.
Recent ProAm Campaigns: Be stars, COROT and others
José Ribeiro
Physics , 2011,
Abstract: The ProAm effort in modern astronomy and astrophysics is now a reality. The achievements of amateur astronomers throughout the early history of astronomy are well known. However, during the 20th century, the high specialisation and the technology required for dealing with the astronomical issues of that epoch, forced a natural separation of the professional activities from the amateur ones. Nowadays, technology has become much cheaper. Amateur astronomers have equipment capable of producing scientific results within their reach. Good equipment pushes some amateur astronomers to learn more, recovering their dialog with professionals. ProAm activities may be fruitful in data mining, in database feeding, in long-term campaigns and even in casual observations.
As doen?as e as dietas na constru??o da alteridade entre os integrantes do Exército imperial brasileiro durante a Guerra dos Farrapos
Ribeiro, José Iran;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702011000300004
Abstract: during the war of the farrapos, the imperial army called thousands of brazilians to fight against the rio grande republicans. the ten years of conflict brought soldiers from different regions of brazil together in one place, and reciprocal social interaction led to the construction of otherness relationships. a broad spectrum of accents, experiences and references came together, making the diversity of brazilians from different regions visible. this diversity stimulated the demarcation of different and shared means of identification, among which we highlight diet and diseases, which served as signs to identify/differentiate the origins of the troops. these questions are analyzed based on handwritten documentation produced daily by army administrators.
Escala de Satisfa??o com o Suporte Social (ESSS)
Ribeiro,José Luis Pais;
Análise Psicológica , 1999,
Abstract: the objective is to create a scale to evaluate the satisfaction with the social support received. it is assumed that the social support received plays an important role in health and well being, both in healthy people, those recuperating or those living with a disease. a sample of young healthy people, 47% males, was used. a scale with 15 items was built, with likert type response, with a basis on content validity of each item, in order to evaluate the level of satisfaction regarding the social support received from different sources, and with social activities. the scale includes four sub-scales with internal consistency values varying between 0,64 and 0,83, with a value of 0,85 for the total scale. the discriminating validity as well as the concurrent validity of the items was analysed with measures related to health, both on the positive as well as the negative side. the values found that confirm the validity of the scale in evaluating perceptions of social support within a health context.
Avalia??o das inten??es comportamentais relacionadas com a promo??o e protec??o da saúde e com a preven??o das doen?as
Ribeiro,José Luis Pais;
Análise Psicológica , 2004,
Abstract: the life style or wellness is associated with health and disease. the present study aims to develop a questionnaire to assess health behaviour or lifestyle related with good health. the questionnaire includes 28 items distributed trough five categories, inspired in the 1982 study of hettler. the items constitute a list of behaviours (rating scale) and not a scale. participants are a convenience sample of 609 healthy individuals, which fulfil the questionnaire voluntarily, in an anonymous and confidential way. the study of the questionnaire as a measure show that it constitutes a brief measure of health related behaviour useful to be used in research and programmes of health promotion and disease prevention.
Vector salivation and parasite transmission
Ribeiro, José M. C.;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1987, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761987000700003
Abstract: saliva of blood-sucking arthropods contains substances that counteract the host's hemostatic and inflammatory reactions, allowing the arthropod to locate blood and keep it flowing during the blood meal. parasites may manipulate this system in order to achieve increased transmission, both to vertebrate and to invertebrate hosts. additionally, salivary pharmacological substances may locally immunosupress the delivery site, allowing initial colonization of the vertebrate host by the parasite.
Conselhos de saúde, comiss?es intergestores e grupos de interesses no Sistema único de Saúde (SUS)
Ribeiro, José Mendes;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X1997000100018
Abstract: health councils have developed in brazil in keeping with arrangements under the 1988 constitution, and the logic of their political consensus has expanded among interest groups relevant to public policy. collegiate bodies, such as intergovernmental commissions, represent an extension of that logic to executive relationships and also express political intermediation by expertise, following the tradition of the european welfare state. the state technical bureaucracy has thus developed a remarkable role in policy-making and in state-level modeling of interest groups. this article argues that such collegiate bodies should be analyzed through state action and defines two models for health councils. one, the vocal political model, is characterized by a prevalence of outspoken denunciation and an overload of demands on the political agenda. the other, the consensus model, expresses self-limitation amongst interest groups in drafting demands. these models are not hierarchically fixed and are usually linked to the political platforms of interest groups participating in the collegiate bodies.
Arranjos neocorporativos e defesa de interesses do médicos
Ribeiro, José M.;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 1993, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X1993000100002
Abstract: in brazil, the trade union structure created by authoritarian corporatism in the 1930's began to change when the cycle of the military regime installed in 1964 came to an end. with redemocratization, the trade union movement began to coexist with the organization of pluralistic interests, a process which has influenced the physicians' movement since 1977. the new national constitution adopted in 1988 provided for multipartite control over health policy. we present a conceptual discussion of neocorporatist arrangements (which are common in european social experience) and their signficance for an understanding of health policy in the context of the so called health reform process in brazil.
Desenvolvimento do sus e racionamento de servi?os hospitalares
Ribeiro,José Mendes;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232009000300013
Abstract: we analyze brazilian health system in comparative perspective. middle income beneficiaries migration to pre-paid private insurance makes brazilian case similar to united states. public hospital services delivery shows an important retrenchment enhanced by demographic growth and new expectations due to constitutional definitions. retrenchment is selective and concentrates on obstetric and clinic services and private for-profit services. to ensure equal access it is necessary to improve public spending; diminish out-of-pocket spending; develop organizational reforms; improve government capacity.
