Effect of the Preparation Method on Co/Al2O3 Catalyst Applied to Ethanol Steam Reforming Reaction Production of Hydrogen  [PDF]
Silmara Rodrigues Garcia, José Mansur Assaf
Modern Research in Catalysis (MRC) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/mrc.2012.13007
Abstract: Alumina supported cobalt catalysts were prepared, characterized and applied in ethanol steam reforming for hydrogen production. The support and the supported catalysts were prepared, respectively, by the solvothermal and precipitation, impregnation and deposition-precipitation methods. The cobalt was added by impregnation and deposition-precipitation in the Al2O3 supports using a Co(NO3)2·6H2O solution. The solids were characterized, Temperature-Programmed Re-duction with H2 (RTP-H2), X-Ray Diffraction (DRX), BET Nitrogen Adsorption and Temperature Programmed Oxida-tion (TPO). The results indicated that the preparation method and the treatment conditions of samples were appropriate for obtaining the wanted compounds. Co3O4 phase was verified for all catalysts through analyses of DRX and RTP-H2 results. Catalytic tests were performed by varying the temperature from 450?C to 600?C, with water: ethanol molar ratio of 3:1. The ethanol conversion was superior of 99%, with greater hydrogen yield at 600℃. The lower carbon deposition was observed in catalysts prepared with solvothermal/deposition-precipitation methods at 450℃.
Biotecnologia e biocapitalismo global
Garcia,José Luís;
Análise Social , 2006,
Abstract: this article situates the rise of biotechnology in the context of the reorganization of technological and economic life and the globalization of markets in the 1980s. it goes on to discuss how biotechnology has developed in the ideological framework of a change in the scientific ethos and in a research environment increasingly dominated by global corporations. the article concludes by looking at the role of biotechnology in the formation of a bioeconomy whose purpose is the commercial appropriation of life. this process is examined in the light of political economy and the many aspects of the phenomenon of charisma.
A arte de endurecer "miolos moles e cérebros brandos": a racionalidade médico-higiênica e a constru??o social da infancia
Gondra, José;Garcia, Inára;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-24782004000200006
Abstract: a reflection on childhood implies working with the idea of a segmented life, establishing initial and final limits for the different phases, in an evolving linear age scale. thus, the attempt to specify such stages ends by dividing life up into multiple segments, in addition to unifying what remains hidden in each of the supposed ages of life. unification is not the property of a more distant past, as the belief in a homogeneously and chronologically divided childhood persists up until now. in this way, the chronology of life, discussed in this article, considers not only the base, load and time of people's biological maturation, but also the cultural differences and the history that define, in a decisive way, the surprising possibilities of the human being.
Métodos n?o-invasivos para análises hormonais aplicadas aos estudos de ecologia e etologia
Pereira, Ricardo José Garcia;
Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-35982007001000008
Abstract: the endocrine monitoring through urinary and fecal steroid analysis has been proven a feasible alternative in the investigation of reproductive and stress physiology in a great variety of birds and mammals (domestic and wild species). this approach has contributed to enhance integration between endocrinology and behavioral/ ecological studies originating detailed information towards different areas, such as animal welfare, social behavior, reproduction, conservation biology, biomedicine, among others. in brazil, however, its application has been limited mainly to the determination of reproductive and stress parameters in wild species, with no published articles employing measurement of urinary or fecal glucocorticoids or sexual steroids in domestic animals. thus, the aim of this lecture is first show examples of brazilian researches involving non-invasive endocrine monitoring, and secondly illustrate possible applications of this technology in studies involving domestic animals.
Sobre as origens da crítica da tecnologia na teoria social: Georg Simmel e a autonomia da tecnologia
Garcia, José Luís;
Scientiae Studia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-31662007000300003
Abstract: in the thought of georg simmel we find a specific attention completely anticipatory, though in embrionic form, on the subject of modern science and technology in industrial and metropolitan society. in the field of social theory and humanities, this puts him amongst the pioneering thinkers in this area. however, these facts have not been recognized, and a deeper analysis of simmel's work is missing both from currently influential social studies on technology and from philosophical investigations and reflections on technology in recent decades. this essay is divided into four parts: part one contains a summary of sociological thought on technology in simmel's time, providing the basis for the argument that he was a pioneer in this field. part two develops the connection between key elements of his epistemology for understanding society and the way in which, using money as an example, he interpreted exchange by means of objects or artefacts. part three shows how simmel understood the phenomenon of technology as a cultural system. finally, part four rebuilds his zeitdiagnostik and the visionary arguments he developed in favour of the thesis of autonomous technology.
Profissionalizar a administra??o da cultura
Durand, José Carlos Garcia;
Revista de Administra??o de Empresas , 1996, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-75901996000200002
Abstract: four principies seem to sum up what one might expect of an efflcient and democratic cultural policy: quality, diversity, preservation of identities and dissemination of values. to achieve these obiealves, a minimum of political and administrative continuity is necessary; a minimum of professionalization should be offered for the technical and concerned directing personnel. the article examines main challenges to the modernization cultural policy, in brazil, since the end of military regime (7986) until nowadays.
