Novela e historia
Cruz,José;
Letras , 2005,
Abstract: abstract history and literature (specifically narrative) share a diegetic essence. both represent textual manifestations with similar communicative strategies. even historically, some cases have been confused to the extent to which the reader may not know whether they are dealing with history or with literature. fiction, credibility, the real and the recordable are the key elements, since they define what historiography is and, also, what can be inserted within the scope of literature. since aristotle?s poetics, some concern on this topic has been shown. during the last decades of the xx century in latin-america, some authors generated polemic discussion as they disregarded the importance of historic records (due to the manipulation of such records on the part of groups that exercised power) and conferred the faculty for reconstructing the past to literature. in this way, the usefulness of literature has been expanded beyond the traditionally established parameters.
Para una nueva abstracción
Cruz Ovalle,José;
ARQ (Santiago) , 2008, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-69962008000300004

Abstract: two works, horizontal and parallel with chile?s longitude, offer different ways of taking position between the central valley and the cordillera. one with wood, the other with simple architecture, they call on lightness and rootedness respectively, and in abstract measure the many dimensions of a life-in-progress in the interior, and extension as a territorial dimension of the architectonic task
El rostro cinematográfico
Santa Cruz,José;
Aisthesis , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-71812011000100008
Abstract: this article makes an emphasis on the signifying construction of a cinematographic countenance, focusing on how gestures organize, subjected to an affection problem. working visual constructions separated from narrative contexts, we propose a reading that brings out the way in which a privileged problem is constructed in the cinematographic ield. the reading will also serve to rethink some categories that have organized cinematographic productions.
La política de una ausencia
Santa Cruz,José;
Aisthesis , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-71812010000100010
Abstract: the question about the relationship between the political issue and art, implies thinking about the operative conditions of the devices of senses (works, events, experiences, discourse) in an specific context of its present, regarding other areas of society. from this perspective, we will attempt an articulation of the political issue as an absent figure on the current chilean cinema, proposing an analysis of the experiences that reinaldo laddaga have understood as the aesthetics of irruption. the cultural and aesthetics experiences create temporal and artificial communities, in order to build collective subjectivities; disarticulating what jacques ranciére has called the status of "art for art's sake" in the contemporary cinema.
Basic components of a national blood system
Cruz,José Ramiro;
Cruz,José Miguel;
Revista Panamericana de Salud Pública , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S1020-49891999000400009
Abstract: this article looks at eight cities in latin america and spain and compares the chances of and variables associated with being a victim of various kinds of urban violence. the analysis was done using data from the activa multicenter study, which was coordinated by the pan american health organization in 1996. the study sample consisted of 10 821 persons who were representative of residents between the ages of 18 and 70 in eight metropolitan areas of latin america and spain: rio de janeiro, brazil; salvador, brazil; santiago, chile; cali, colombia; san josé, costa rica; san salvador, el salvador; caracas, venezuela; and madrid, spain. the results show that the likelihood of being a victim of different types of violence varies from city to city. the variables associated with a greater likelihood of being a victim in most-though not all-of the cities are sex, age, and consumption of alcohol.
Cruz,José Miguel;
Revista Panamericana de Salud Pública , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S1020-49891999000400013
Abstract: this study had two objectives: (1) to describe the levels of victimization of salvadorians due to criminal violence, and the population groups most affected by it; (2) to learn if these levels of victimization are related to the presence of norms, attitudes, and behaviors that encourage the occurrence of violence. for this purpose data from the activa project of el salvador were used. the project was carried out by the university institute of public opinion during october and november 1996, with a sample of 1 290 personal interviews that were presumed to be representative of people between 18 and 70 years of age living in the metropolitan area of san salvador. the sample was obtained through multistage probability sampling. the results show that the level of victimization from violence is quite high in san salvador and that it especially affects adult and young men. the results also indicate that persons who have been victims of serious aggression tend to show, more frequently than average, norms justifying and approving the use of violence, a tendency to use weapons, and aggressive behaviors toward other people.

One of the challenges faced by institutional repositories is to demonstrate and quantify with objective data that open access documents are cited and used more than other papers. Some repositories already include analyses of the use of their documents. In addition, several international projects focus on compiling citation indexes. However, to date these initiatives have been isolated. To accurately assess open access, results from different institutions and disciplines must be combined to obtain overall indicators that enable comparisons to be made between authors, institutions, etc. In this paper, we present a proposal for architecture that facilitates the collection, distribution and aggregation of the data required to measure the impact of papers stored in international repositories.
