Abstract: the use of phytosanitary chemicals applied via seeds is a routine practice for corn crop, nevertheless, the growing concern about environment and human security make it necessary to develop new technologies which can reduce the handling risks of these phytoprotectors, therefore, this is one of the main objectives of polymer use. thus, this work was intended to evaluate the physiological and sanitary quality of corn seeds submitted to phytosanitary treatments in association with different polymers during storage. so, the corn seeds of the hybrids ag9010 e ag122 were treated or not with the insecticide carbofuran (furazin) at the dosage of 1.5 l/100 kg of seeds and in mixture with the fungicide fludioxonil (maxin) at the dosage of 100 ml/100 kg of seeds. over the treatment of the seeds, polymers 1519 were utilized or not at the dosage of 50 ml/100 kg of seeds, and polymer 1080 at the dosage of 100 ml/100 kg of seeds. the seeds were packed into multifoliated paper packages and stored for six months under environmental conditions, seed quality being evaluated before and after storage by means of the following determinations: germination test, coiled test, tray germination test, infested seed determination, emergence velocity index and sanity test. it follows that pelliculation does not affect the physiological quality of corn seeds and the application of furazin and/or maxin upon corn seeds, is technically viable. corn seeds of high initial quality may be treated and stored for six months, without any endangerment of their physiological quality.

Abstract: the use of polymers has been recommended for the treatment of seeds of those species that absorb water quickly, causing seed damage by imbibition, such as the soybean case. when the sowing is accomplished in soils with a low drainage capacity, a significant reduction in the seedling emergence may occur if sowing coincides with the high pluviometric index. the objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of film coated soybean seeds in soils with different water contents. seeds were treated with the fungicide tegram (thiabendazole + thiram) at a dosage of 200ml/100kg of seeds associated to the polymers. for the film coating of the seeds the polymers l201 and l204 were applied at the dosages of 0ml, 200ml and 400ml/100kg of seeds. after the treatment the seeds were sown in soils with 50, 70 and 90% of the field capacity for evaluations in the emergence tests in tray and cold test. evaluations were also made using the standard germination test, submersion, emergence in flowerbed. according to the results it was observed that the film coating promotes an increase in seedling emergence when under ideal conditions, regardeless the polymer used. under stress conditions, the film coating reduces the seeds vigor.

Abstract: early seed collection may contribute to decrease its deterioration rate preserving physiological quality. seed formation in arnica (lychnophora pinaster mart.), takes place throughout the fructification period. as arnica plant is of medicinal importance and is under threaten there is a need of monitoring seed quality during storage to guarantee reproduction and perpetuation of the species. this work was performed with the objective of verifying germination performance of arnica seeds collected at two maturation stages and stored at different conditions. the seeds used in this study were collected in december 2003 at itumirim, state of minas gerais-brazil at two maturation stage. after collection, the seeds were dried, cleaned and separated with a vertical blower. the seeds were placed in two types of packing (paper and plastic) and stored under different atmospheres (cold chamber 10oc/50%rh and room temperature), during 6 months. the germination test was performed in incubator (bod) at alternate temperature (20-30oc) and photoperiod of 12 hours. the substrate used was paper towel and the seeds were placed in gerbox. four replication of 100 seeds for each treatment were used. the sanitary quality of the seed was performed by "blotter test" with 4 replications of 50 seeds for each treatment. moisture content, sanitary quality and physiological quality were evaluated during 0, 2, 4 and 6 months. there was not significant differences among the four storage conditions and, under these conditions, arnica seeds can be stored by a period of six months. there was an increase in the germination along the storage period.
ética na escola: (re)acendendo uma polêmica
Oliveira, Renato José de;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302001000300012
Abstract: considering that ethics at school and the education of students' character have been discussed all over the world, this paper focuses its subject based on three axes. the first one presents some philosophical views on morality and ethics in order to investigate whether or not theoretical distinctions have social impacts. the second axis is related to the foundations of morality and ethics as practical disciplines. the main question is: should general principles legitimate moral/ethical judgments or vice versa? finally the role assumed by school in the ethical/moral education of the citizen is explored. both educational conceptions as those owing to comenius and dewey and the homogenizing pedagogical practices are discussed, as well as the ethical proposals included in the parametros curriculares nacionais (national curricular guidelines)
Contribui??es da racionalidade argumentativa para a abordagem da ética na escola
Oliveira, Renato José de;
Educa??o e Pesquisa , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-97022011005000005
Abstract: this article discusses the work on ethics in school (primary and secondary education) with basis on a critique of the model of demonstrative rationality, prevalent since the advent of modernity. alternatively, it presents another model, the argumentative rationality one, which is discussed with basis on the approaches taken by cha?m perelman, lucie olbrechts-tyteca and michel meyer. the first two authors have formulated a theory of argumentation whose goal is to support the typical reasoning of human and social sciences, knowledge areas in which typical procedures of demonstrative rationality, such as deduction and calculation do not apply. meyer stresses the problematizing nature of argumentative rationality, placing the rhetoric as a means of negotiating the distance between individuals in regard to certain issues. this theoretical framework is complemented by the philosophy of pluralism appointed by perelman as a counterpoint to the worldviews grounded on unitary conceptions of truth, called monisms. in this theoretical framework, i discuss the universalistic ethical concept of kant and the relativism proposed by the ethics of aesthetics defended by maffesoli. in a second topic, ethics in school education is problematized in view of the question: how can one shape the character of the student without falling into some sort of indoctrination? to the extent that ethics and morality relate to this question, i discuss how the two terms have been understood and i propose to regard them as interchangeable instances. the conclusions i present based on these discussions aim not to solve the problems inherent in the habits and attitudes of students, but to contribute to teachers' reflection about their teaching practices.
An hybrid architecture for clusters analysis: rough setstheory and self-organizing map artificial neural network
Sassi, Renato José;
Pesquisa Operacional , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-74382012005000001
Abstract: the database of real world contains a huge volume of data and among them there are hidden piles of interesting relations that are actually very hard to find out. the knowledge discovery in databases (kdd) appears as a possible solution to find out such relations aiming at converting information into knowledge. however, not all data presented in the bases are useful to a kdd. usually, data are processed before being presented to a kdd aiming at reducing the amount of data and also at selecting more relevant data to be used by the system. this work consists in the use of rough sets theory, in order to pre-processing data to be presented to self-organizing map neural network (hybrid architecture) for clusters analysis. experiments' results evidence the better performance using the hybrid architecture than self-organizing map. the paper also presents all phases of the kdd process.
