Using Data Mining with Time Series Data in Short-Term Stocks Prediction: A Literature Review  [PDF]
José Manuel Azevedo, Rui Almeida, Pedro Almeida
International Journal of Intelligence Science (IJIS) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ijis.2012.224023
Abstract: Data Mining (DM) methods are being increasingly used in prediction with time series data, in addition to traditional statistical approaches. This paper presents a literature review of the use of DM with time series data, focusing on shorttime stocks prediction. This is an area that has been attracting a great deal of attention from researchers in the field. The main contribution of this paper is to provide an outline of the use of DM with time series data, using mainly examples related with short-term stocks prediction. This is important to a better understanding of the field. Some of the main trends and open issues will also be introduced.
A política bancária do regime militar: o projeto de conglomerado (1967-1973)
Macarini, José Pedro;
Economia e Sociedade , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-06182007000300003
Abstract: this article discusses the banking policy led by delfim netto from 1967 trough 1973, which had special features. it is examined the tendency to banking concentration, very intense in those years, as well as the acute centralization process which led to the constitution of financial conglomerates, thus transforming the financial structure in a way not foreseen by the banking and financial reforms of 1964. both processes reflected the new course of economic policy since 1967, having as its major objective to induce the formation of a new form of private capitalist organization - the conglomerate, integrating banking and industry -, which would led to the consolidation of a segment of big national private firms. the article seeks to collect the available evidence about that strategic project developed during a phase of the military regime.
A política econ?mica do governo Médici: 1970-1973
Macarini, José Pedro;
Nova Economia , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-63512005000300003
Abstract: this article focuses on the economic policies of the emílio garrastazu medici administration. this period became known for the official description of the then ongoing economic boom, as if this boom were a real developmental stage that would lead to prolonged growth for decades, thus pulling the country out of its backwardness. in the first section, we will examine the creation of a national project by the military regime, leading to the "brazil: a great power" project, which was based on growth in exports of agricultural products as its core development strategy. the second section presents a detailed summary of the conduct of economic policy - with emphasis given to aspects concerning the core strategy announced, to sustained growth and to stabilization policy. the analysis highlights some specific aspects of the 1972-1973 economic scenario, suggesting that this represents a different period (a second phase) in the conduct of economic policy during the brazilian "miracle".
NAVEGANDO HACIA LOS CAMBIOS: EL ESTADO EVALUATIVO
Rangel,Pedro José;
Investigación y Postgrado , 2002,
Abstract: this article intends to analyze the current crisis of the higher education institutions (hei) in latin america. emphasis is made on the relational models prevailing between hei and the different latin america states. additionally, it analizes the need to create new assessment mechanisms that will guarantee quality and efficiency enhancement within these institutions. the results of this research indicate that both institutions and programs must be given poper credit within the context of self-evaluation and external evaluation of the hei, thus assuring a quality educational process suited to the necessities and demands of the job market. on the other hand, it is cuncluded that academic-administrative evaluation of the hei is fundamental to the establishment of a relationship, between these institutions, the state, and society in general, which is based on trust and credibility. for this reason, this process must be performed on basis of continuous improvement of each institution instead of on comparison amongst institutions. in order to evaluate the hei it is necessary, then, to establish performance indexes with grounds on quality, excellence, relevance and productivity.
La ense?anza de la matemática: proceso versus resultado
Angulo,Pedro José;
Educere , 2006,
Abstract: teaching math is a prolonged trial of a path that is thought out during the process itself. it is a challenge, a quest, an experimental strategy to reach the reflection of the formal discourse. its methodology does not have universal standards. however, this paper accounts for two study scenarios: engineers and mathematicians. each one with their object of study and their way of approaching it. beyond the barriers of a rigorous logic, teaching math requires dimensions of complementarities and multidisciplinarity that might possibly achieve the fusion of didactic forces apparently diferent but epistemologically united.
Educación bolivariana: entre la utopía realizable y no hacer nada
Rivas,Pedro José;
Educere , 2007,
Abstract: the re-foundation of the bolivarian republic of venezuela, stated in the newest constitution that was approved in two unprecedented popular referendums, aspires to build a truly inclusive and equal society, which means correcting the structures and at the same time the diferent inequalities that generate social exclusion. school on its own will not be able to move the huge injustice that supports it, which is why it must be rescued as the most important public space, without forgetting other agents, that will contribute to creating a venezuelan citizen committed with the country ’s future. in the perspective of a democracy that belongs to all and is for all, required education is assumed as a human right and the social duty of all people, without discrimination, especially emphasizing in the historically vulnerable groups. in a world globalized by neoliberalism and in which the market violently imposes its only truth, the venezuelan bolivarian proposal comes as a national hope for redemption for a country that was broken at its value, cultural, social, political roots, in other words, its democratic essence. which is where we find the fiction-reality dialectic
Ver, vernos y ser vistos desde la palabra
Rivas,Pedro José;
Educere , 2009,
Abstract: texts are reflections that come from a sustainable editorial experience that states that creating and producing university thought is localized, measurable and qualifiable by what is written, published and efficiently visible. what is not shown does not have either an academic influence or social impact; it is as if it would not exist. to that end, three sins that work negatively on the production of institutional knowledge and knowing are tackled: thinking but not writing, writing and not publishing, and publishing without broadcasting or making visible. just as well, the false dichotomy between electronic publications and the traditional printed format publications is also tackled.
La educación matemática como factor de deserción escolar y exclusión social
Rivas,Pedro José;
Educere , 2005,
Abstract: the content of this dissertation was showcased in the first international reflection workshop on education tasks and the role of social marginalization, in october 2004 in puerto madryn, chubut province, patagonia, argentina. and it is a thought process that takes on a particular way of teaching and generating learning, observed as a constant in school praxis at the different levels in the education system; especially in the first basic levels of the integral formation of the pupil, where he/she begins to develop for perpetuation on the continuum of the curriculum. this pedagogical conception of math teaching, inspired by the positivist paradigm together with intuitional and traditional teaching practices, denies the constructionist potentiality of the student?s knowledge and disrespects the child?s rights through its impositive character and academic violence. this didactic subculture tends to weave a fabric of aversion and hate (in crescendo), towards mathematical knowledge in the curriculum. this will later result in one of the endogenous factors of academic underdevelopment, school desertion and social exclusion, as well as the simultaneous creation of a special form of social exclusion that promotes mathematic illiteracy; with epistemic consequences in the teenager and the adult that are detected in student prosecution, which i will call ?academic segregation?, and that finds refuge in the humanistic and social studies where it is evaded and, paradoxically, keeps being reproduced.
La educación matemática en la franja crítica de la escolaridad y el currículo de la educación básica
Rivas,Pedro José;
Educere , 2008,
Abstract: the following conference outlines an institutional development experience from the university of los andes from the creation of a seminar, which view ofers varied meanings and new pedagogical discourses about learning and teaching of school mathematical knowledge of children and teenagers located on the so-called critical strip of curriculum and schooling, just where one of the most determining academic spaces of early school exclusion and ulterior social desertion is hidden. the reflection and proposals produced by the seminar become an excellent reason for their dissemination, circulation and visibility through the appropriation of the new communication and information technologies ofered by saber-ula’s institutional repository, a virtual place where seminarists’ academic patrimony is hosted and saved for its broadcast.
Um aspecto da política econ?mica do "milagre brasileiro": a política de mercado de capitais e a bolha especulativa 1969-1971
Macarini, José Pedro;
Estudos Econ?micos (S?o Paulo) , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-41612008000100007
Abstract: this article aims to contribute to the literature on the brazilian capital market policy implemented during the military dictatorship, examining an unexplored chapter, that related to its main aspects and results observed during the so-called brazilian "miracle" (1968-1973). during those years an impressive growth cycle occurred as well as an exuberant bubble in the stock market (in its initial phase interpreted by the authorities as a clear signal of the correctness and success of the regime's economic policy). the end of the bubble led to a prolonged stagnation in the stock market, which never resumed during the 70s despite the many successive efforts by the economic policy to revitalize it.
