Desenvolvimento de Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill., em diferentes substratos, após micropropaga o in vitro = The development of Opuntia ficus-indica (L) mill., in different substrates, after in vitro micropropagation

Abstract: Com o objetivo de avaliar o desenvolvimento de Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill, em diferentes substratos, utilizaram-se plantas micropropagadas nas seguintes etapas: indu o, crescimento, multiplica o e enraizamento dos brotos. Após o enraizamento, asplantulas foram aclimatizadas em casa de vegeta o, usando-se os seguintes substratos: solo n o adubado, solo adubado de acordo com análise de solo, solo + pó de coco (1:1 e 2:1), solo + esterco de bovino (1:1 e 2:1), solo + bioadubo (1:1 e 2:1), em delineamento inteiramente ao acaso com quatro repeti es. As plantulas possuíam entre 1 a 2 cm de comprimento e foram enterradas a dois ter os no solo. Semanalmente, foram medidas as alturas das plantas e contado o número de brota es. Verificou-se diferen a significativa ao nível de 5% de probabilidade pelo Teste t quando comparados os efeitos dos diferentes substratos. Conclui-se que deve-se utilizar o substrato à base de esterco bovino na aclimatiza o da palma forrageira. The study aimed to evaluate the development of Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill, in different substrates, using micropropagated plants in the following stages: induction, growth, multiplication and bud rooting. After rooting, seedlings were acclimatized in greenhouse, by means of the following potting mixture: unfertilized soil, fertilized soil according to soil analysis, soil + coconut dust (1:1 and 2:1), soil + bovine manure (1:1 and 2:1), soil + biofertilizer (1:1 and 2:1), randomly applied with four replications. The seedlings had between 1 and 2 cm of length and were planted two thirds under the soil. There were weekly measures of the plants’ height and the number of shoots. Significant difference to the level of 5% of probability for test was verified when comparing the effects of different substrates. Results show that the potting mixture must be based onbovine manure in the acclimatization of palm grass.
Comparison of chemical composition of packable resin composites by scanning electron microscopy

Abstract: objectives: the purpose of this study was to compare the chemical composition of four different shades (incisal/extra-light, a2, a3 and b3) of two packable resin composites (solitaire?, and prodigy condensabletm). methods and materials: the specimens measured 4mm in diameter and 4mm in thickness. five specimens were made for each shade of the materials. they were light cured for 40 seconds at a power of 600mw/cm2. subsequently, the specimens were removed from the plates and ground to powder and then pressed into holes measuring 4mm in diameter in a teflon matrix, using the plates of the same material as base and cover. specimens were evaluated under sem with an x-ray detector for the spectroscopic test by energy dispersing. results: the chemical components found in both materials were practically the same, but in different proportions. carbon, oxygen, aluminum, silica, fluoride and barium were found. conclusions: the chemical composition of each same material varied according to each shade analyzed.

Abstract: the purpose of this study was to adapt and validate the classroom climate for creativity scale for 5th grade elementary school students. the instrument was administered to 504 students, from both public and private schools in the federal district of brasilia, in order to assess the classroom climate in the subjects of portuguese and mathematics. the results of the confirmatory factor analysis showed three dimensions associated with classroom climate for creativity: teacher's stimulus to creativity, student's self-perception of creative characteristics and student's motivation for learning. the alpha coefficient values varied between 0.69 and 0.88. it was concluded that the three-factor model is adequate and, therefore, the scale can be used for research and assessment of the extent to which classroom climate enhances creativity.

Abstract: This article aims to describe the methodology of Ecological Footprint, a tool to measure, communicate and compare the development of nations, using a theoretical and empirical grounds through a literature search conducted in the literature. The content of the study initially discusses the deinitions, the assumptions adopted, the method for calculating the indicator and the main advantages and disadvantages of using the method of Ecological Footprint. The results for this indicator, in different countries worldwide, shows that Brazil has an ecological surplus, allowing the social and economic development with conservation of natural resources. Neste artigo, tem-se como objetivo descrever a metodologia da Pegada Ecológica (Ecological Footprint), uma ferramenta para medir, comunicar e comparar o desenvolvimento das na es, utilizando uma fundamenta o teórico-empírica por meio de uma pesquisa bibliográfica realizada na literatura especializada. Este estudo aborda, inicialmente as defini es, as premissas adotadas, o método para o cálculo do indicador e as principais vantagens e desvantagens da utiliza o do método da Pegada ecológica. Os resultados obtidos para este indicador, em diferentes países, revelam que o Brasil possui um superávit ecológico, que permite o desenvolvimento social e econ mico com a conserva o dos recursos naturais.
AVALIA O FíSICO-QUíMICA E NUTRICIONAL DE GR OS DE FEIJ O-DE-PORCO (Canavalia ensiformis (L) D.C.)

Abstract: RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar físico-química e nutricionalmente gr os secos de feij o-de-porco (Canavalia ensiformis (L) D.C.). Nas condi es do experimento os resultados obtidos permitiram demonstrar que a leguminosa estudada apresenta densidade 1,25 g/ml, quociente de hidrata o 2,08 e tempo de cozimento 235 min. (Máquina de Mattson). O teor de proteína (27,50%) é considerado elevado, enquanto os de fósforo (0,35%) e cálcio (0,14%) s o considerados médios. Possui baixo teor de taninos (9,43% mg/g), baixa atividade antitríptica (5,32 UTI/mg prot) e alta hemaglutinante (título/mg prot – 142,86). A digestibilidade in vitro (41%) e a taxa de eficiência protéica (0,38) s o consideradas baixas. Quanto aos aminoácidos, apresenta baixo teor de sulfurados (1,62%) e alto de lisina (5,90%) com uma disponibilidade de 84%. Outros estudos dever o ser desenvolvidos para confirmarem ou n o as observa es feitas, neste trabalho, visando a utiliza o do feij o-de-porco na alimenta o animal. Abstract: RESUMO: O objetivo do presente trabalho foi verificar as possibilidades de uso na alimenta o humana e/ou animal de gr os de feij o-guandu (Cajanus cajan (L) Mill sp). Mediante os resultados obtidos, observou-se que a leguminosa estudada tem possibilidades de compor a dieta alimentar do homem e/ou animais, pois, presta-se ao processamento tradicional para consumo, apresenta composi o centesimal adequada, possui elevado teor de lisina com alta disponibilidade (86%) e suporta satisfatoriamente o crescimento animal (PER = 1,650). Todavia, este aproveitamento exige que se observem algumas limita es, tais como, o conteúdo insuficiente e a baixa disponibilidade de metionina e a presen a de antitrípticos, lectinas e taninos. Thermal Hydraulic Analysis Improvement for the IEA-R1 Research Reactor and Fuel Assembly Design Modification  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper presents the sequence of activities to improve the thermal hydraulic analysis of the IEA-R1 research reactor to operate in safe conditions after power upgrade from 2 to 5 MW and core size reduction from 30 to 24 fuel assemblies. A realistic analysis needs the knowledge of the actual operation conditions (heat flow, flow rates) beyond the geometric data and the uncertainties associated with manufacturing and measures. A dummy fuel assembly was designed and constructed to measure the actual flow rate through the core fuel assemblies and its pressure drop. First results showed that the flow distribution over the core is nearly uniform. Nevertheless, the values are below than the calculated ones and the core bypass flow rate is greater than those estimated previously. Based on this, several activities were performed to identify and reduce the bypass flow, such as reduction of the flow rate through the sample irradiators, closing some unnecessary secondary holes on the matrix plate, improvement in the primary flow rate system and better fit of the core components on the matrix plate. A sub-aquatic visual system was used as an important tool to detect some bypass flow path. After these modifications, the fuel assemblies flow rate increased about 13%. Additional tests using the dummy fuel assembly were carried out to measure the internal flow distribution among the rectangular channels. The results showed that the flow rate through the outer channels is 10% - 15% lower than the internal ones. The flow rate in the channel formed between two adjacent fuel assemblies is an estimated parameter and it is difficult to measure because this is an open channel. A new thermal hydraulic analysis of the outermost plates of the fuel assemblies takes into account all this information. Then, a fuel design modification was proposed with the reduction of 50% in the uranium quantity in the outermost fuel plates. In order to avoid the oxidation of the outermost plates by high temperature, low flow rate, a reduction of 50% in the uranium density in the same ones was shown to be adequate to solve the problem.

Abstract: malacological surveys were conducted in belo horizonte with a view to obtain new data on the distribution and density of schistosomose bearing snails and their natural rate of infection by schistosoma mansoni. of 3.261 biomphalaria glabrata collected during 1979-81, 100 (3,1%) were found naturally infected. one hundred and two water collections were surveyed and 36 (35%) were found harboring the mentioned snail species (23 of them in the watershed of pampulha, 13 in the tributaires of the arrudas creek). the species b. tenagophila was found in two waterbodies, and b. straminea in two other. other snail species collected were pomacea haustrum, physa sp and drepanotrema cimex. data of this survey were compared with data published in 1967 and 50% reduction in the snail breeding places was observed. this reduction was due mainly to public works and engineering activities accompanying the growth of city. schistosomiasis is still present in the periphery of the city and only engineering works will be able to eliminate this health problem.
Effects of ferric ions on the catalytic ozonation process on sanitary landfill leachates

Abstract: Leachates exhibiting an unstable ratio of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) of approximately 0.45 are typical of new landfills in the City of Cachoeira Paulista, Brazil. Although the organic matter portion is bio-treatable, the presence of refractory leached organic material requires unconventional effluent-treatment processes. Leachate treatment with ozone oxidation, in the presence of ferric ions, acts as catalyst in the formation of hydroxyl radicals. Ozone was obtained by corona-discharge from high-purity O2 gas. The treatment was performed in natura in a jacketed borosilicate glass reactor containing 900 ml of leachate. The analyzed response variable was expressed as the concentration of dissolved organic carbon (DOC). In order to determine the optimal proportions to produce the greatest degradation rate for organic materials, variations in experimental O2 flow-fed to the generator, the Fe(iii) concentration, and the output of the ozonator were conducted over two experimental runs. Experimental models showed a DOC degradation on the order of 81.25%.
CARACTERIZA O FíSICA E AVALIA O QUíMICA E BIOQUíMICA DE GR OS DE MUCUNA AN (Stizolobium deeringianum)

Abstract: RESUMO: O presente trabalho teve como objetivo a caracteriza o física e avalia es químicas e bioquímicas dos gr os de mucuna an (Stizolobium deeringianum). Nas condi es do experimento constatou-se que a leguminosa estudada apresenta densidade 1,25 g/ml, quociente de hidrata o 1,84 e tempo de cozimento 135 min. (Máquina de Maltson). O teor de proteína (26,70%) está dentro da faixa de varia o protéica para as leguminosas, apresenta 0,26% de fósforo e 0,16% de cálcio, possui alto teor em tanino (53,31 mg/g), baixa atividade antitríptica (43,57 UTI/mg prot) e hemaglutinante (Título/mg prot = 0,15) e a digestibilidade in vitro em torno de 56,63%. Com rela o aos aminoácidos, a leguminosa contém baixo teor de sulfurados (1,49%) e conteúdo de lisina adequado (4,95%) com uma disponibilidade de 86%.
