Shannon Entropy in Distributed Scientific Calculations on Mobiles Ad-Hoc Networks (MANETs)  [PDF]
Pablo José Iuliano, Luís Marrone
Communications and Network (CN) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/cn.2013.53B2076

This paper addresses the problem of giving a formal metric to estimate uncertainty at the moment of starting a distributed scientific calculation on clients working over mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). Measuring the uncertainty related to the successful completion of a distributed computation on the aforementioned network infrastructure is based on the Dempster-Shafer Theory of Evidence (DST). Shannon Entropy will be the formal mechanism by which the conflict in the scenarios proposed in this paper will be estimated. This paper will begin with a description of the procedure by which connectivity probability is to be obtained and will continue by presenting the mobility model most appropriate for the performed simulations. Finally, simulations will be performed to calculate the Shannon Entropy, after which the corresponding conclusions will be presented.

Sobre o poder global
Fiori, José Luís;
Novos Estudos - CEBRAP , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-33002005000300005
Abstract: the article discusses the possibilities of "global governance". taking the notions of global "hegemony" and "governance" as a guideline, the author examines the constitution and expansion of hegemonic powers since the 17th century. further on, he puts into question the notion of "cosmopolitanism" proposed by kant and discusses the actual possibility of a global government.
Reflex?es periféricas sobre a difus?o internacional do pensamento econ?mico
Cardoso, José Luís;
Nova Economia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-63512009000200002
Abstract: this article discusses the broad topic of the international diffusion of economic ideas and theories, by stressing its relevance for a better understanding of the process of formation of economic thought on a national scale. the article explores several meaningful examples of the international flow of economics and presents a brief survey of the main historiographical approaches available. it gives special emphasis to the influence of cepal (ecla, united nations economic commission for latin america) - namely through the writings of raul prebisch and celso furtado - in portugal and spain in the 1950s, which features an atypical case of a peripheral influence on semi-peripheral countries. the articles main claim is that the study of international diffusion of economic thought sheds new light onto both the very understanding of the building of economics as a science and the awareness of its implications on the functioning and change of economic reality within a given national context.
Fiori, José Luís;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302001000400002
Abstract: this paper studies the different set of references that helped understand the diagnostics on what determined the brazilian crisis in the 80s and the failure of the developmentist strategy. such strategy was in force until the brazilian state, which had already relinquished many of the roles assumed in the past decades, also abandoned its function as a leader of the brazilian development. as for the 90s, based on a previous diagnostic strongly influenced by considerations marked by ideologies and backed by a power alliance between the economical and political elite - who have often acted as advocates and spokespeople of strong international interests -, the brazilan state took to its ultimate consequences a project of international insertion and radical transnationalization of the control over brazilian decision centers and economical structures.
O Manifesto dos Educadores (1959) à luz da história
Sanfelice, José Luís;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302007000200013
Abstract: the main objective of this text is to present a historical reading of the document entitled educators' manifesto (1959) under a context taken as a synthesis of tensions and with a qualitative potential to overcome the contradictions of the so called national-development model, based on industrialization, adopted between 1930 and 1964. this analysis mainly stresses the 1950s. as a result, we expect to have achieved a better historical understanding of the process of change or of the structural movement lived by the brazilian society in that period, in order to clarify the different educational and social projects that were then in conflict.
Preferência pela liquidez, racionamento de crédito e concentra??o bancária uma nova teoria pós-keynesiana da firma bancária
Oreiro, José Luís;
Estudos Econ?micos (S?o Paulo) , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-41612005000100004
Abstract: the objective of the present article is to present a general model of the banking firm beha-vior which encompasses the post keynesian theory of bank's liquidity preference, the stiglitz-weiss′s hypothesis that expected default rate is an increasing function of loan interest rate and the tobinisque hypothesis that the deposit retention coefficient is an increasing function of the concentration ratio in banking industry. this general model allows us to arrive at some interesting conclusions. first of all, we show that the optimal banking spread is an increasing function of the concentration ratio in banking industry. second, we show that an increase in the level of the interest rate controlled by the central bank will (i) reduce the optimal level of the banking spread, and (ii) will reduce de supply of banking credit. last, but not least, we show that an increase in the concentration ratio in banking industry has an ambiguous effect over the supply of banking credit.
Maria da Concei??o Tavares e a hegemonia Americana
Fiori, José Luís;
Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64452000000200011
Abstract: one aspect of the work of the economist maria da concei??o tavares, concerning the economic analysis of international relations, is examined with reference to her views on the "resumption of american hegemony"
Biotecnologia e biocapitalismo global
Garcia,José Luís;
Análise Social , 2006,
Abstract: this article situates the rise of biotechnology in the context of the reorganization of technological and economic life and the globalization of markets in the 1980s. it goes on to discuss how biotechnology has developed in the ideological framework of a change in the scientific ethos and in a research environment increasingly dominated by global corporations. the article concludes by looking at the role of biotechnology in the formation of a bioeconomy whose purpose is the commercial appropriation of life. this process is examined in the light of political economy and the many aspects of the phenomenon of charisma.
O movimento civil-militar de 1964 e os intelectuais
Sanfelice, José Luís;
Cadernos CEDES , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-32622008000300005
Abstract: this study aims to identify, within the movement of history in a given conjuncture, tensions that have opposed several social characters of the 1970s, in brazil. the thinking expressed by the first leaders of the civil-military movement that took over the state apparatus in 1964 represents one pole. through their speeches at the v university forum, humberto de a. castelo branco, president of the republic, flávio suplicy de lacerda, minister of education and culture, and raymundo moniz de arag?o, communicated the government's views on education to the society. these would be very soon included in the legal regulations of the university reform. for this work, the opposite pole to this official vision is a historical writing by florestan fernandes produced after the lecture he gave at the opening of the i professors' forum, held in 1968 in rio de janeiro. analyzing this ideological conflict, we hope to reach a more accurate critical understanding on the 1964 civil-military movement and its relationships to different intellectuals.
Estado de bem-estar social: padr?es e crises
Fiori, José Luís;
Physis: Revista de Saúde Coletiva , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-73311997000200008
Abstract: this article recapitulates tbe most known trajectory and historical paradigms of social protection of tbe "excluded ones" in capitalist societies, differing from tbe present welfare state, after tbe beveridge plano then it contextualizes tbe success of tbe new public organization of social protection, witbin tbe capitalist "golden age" (1950-1970). after discussing some typologies on tbe literature on welfare, it places tbe problem of its slow inarticulation or redefinition within the context of economic crises and the ideological victory of liberal-conservatism in central and peripheric countries.
