Abstract: few papers have been published on snake bites caused by philodryas olfersii. we report here the first case identified at the centro de assistência toxicológica do hospital da restaura??o, recife, state of pernambuco. this case was described based on medical protocols, interviewing the patient and identifying the animal that caused the bite. the patient presented pain, heat, erythema, edema and ecchymosis, without other laboratory abnormalities or coagulation disorders. the treatment consisted of administration of eight ampoules of antibothropic serum, and post-administration allergenic reactions were observed. the importance of bites by opistoglyph snakes needs to be reconsidered in research and at specialized treatment centers.

Abstract: the incidence of diabetes mellitus has continuously risen over recent years. patients with this chronic condition have a higher risk of developing coronary artery disease. unfortunately, due to the frequent diffuse involvement of multiple vessels, the long term outcomes after percutaneous intervention, whether by balloon catheter or bare-metal stent, has always been poor and frequently inferior to cardiac surgery for this subset of patients. recently, the introduction of drug-eluting stents (des) has brought new hope to treat patients with more complex diseases percutaneously. in this paper we report a successful percutaneous approach of a 63-year-old insulin dependent diabetic patient treated with nine des (taxustm, boston scientific).

Abstract: this study was carried out to estimate efficiencies of the utilization of metabolizable energy for maintenance (km) and weight gain (kg) and to evaluate the small ruminant nutrition system (srns) model in predicting dry matter intake and average daily gain of growing santa ines sheep. twenty-four non-castrated santa ines sheep, at 50 days of age and with average body weight of 13.00 ± 0.56 kg, respectively, were used. after a 10-day adaptation period, four animals were slaughtered to be used as reference for estimating initial empty body weight and body composition of the other animals. the remaining animals were distributed in a random block design, with the treatments consisting of diets containing different levels of metabolizable energy (2.08, 2.28, 2.47 and 2.69 mcal/kg of dm), with five replicates. the metabolizable energy use efficiencies for maintenance and for weight gain were calculated from the relationship between the dietary net energy for maintenance and gain and me concentration in the diets. evaluation of the srns model was performed by adjustment of simple linear regression model between the predicted (independent variable) and observed (dependent variable) values. the estimated energy use efficiency for maintenance (km) was 0.70; and for gain weight (kg) it showed to be inversely proportional to the increase of metabolizable energy concentration in the diet. the dry matter intake predicted by the srns model did not statistically differ from that observed, but the model overestimated the average daily gain by 5.18%. those results can contribute to the construction of a database, which could be condensed into several others in a predictive model of performance and feed planning for sheep reared in brazil.

Abstract: This research is an active pedagogical experience with surgeons who are specialized in reconstructive plastic surgery and nursing. The guiding questions were the statements of each Surgeon’s clients and what they think about them. Modeling the imaginary bodies of the patients and identify what they built in their minds, highlighting topics and the discussion about the practice made in clay modeling. Eight bodies were modeled, with six bodies with all the senses and two incomplete bodies with only the regions of the breasts and buttocks. It was concluded that there are diverse issues emerging such as gender, ethics, care, spirituality and dream as the fulfillment of the wishes of the patients. Where in the body can these surgeons act to improve the patients’ physical and quality of life? There is an important theme when we are generally welcoming women into an anamnesis that considers their body as a whole, but what is their expectation for each patient? This paper showed the importance of the preoperative evaluation of this whole, for the indication of repairs or contraindications of procedures that aim to improve the physical of the patients, with possible bodily surgical modifications as a form of modeling through liposuction, grafting or excision with lipectomy and withdrawal of excess skin to mitigate the effects of the transformations that deform the physical and end up harming the human relationship, especially women. This is a qualitative method showing the meanings of the bodies of the women represented in the modeling by the Surgeons. However, some surgeons stand out by the look of their practice, as greater sensitivity looking at the body as a whole, spiritual and emotional. They need to use their skills as surgical art and gift, to try to achieve a means, but not an end.
Le problème du mal dans le Guide des Perplexes et son arrière-plan talmudique
Costa, José
Sefarad : Revista de Estudios Hebraicos y Sefardíes , 2010,
Abstract: At first sight, the question of evil is regarded in the Guide for the Perplexed in a paradoxical manner. Thus, in Guide I, 2, Maimonides examines the notions of good and evil as subjective evaluations possessing neither the rigour not the exactness of the notions of true and false. However, the question of evil occupies an essential place in the Guide, as various modern authors have shown. This question is important to Maimonides because he is, in this respect, the heir of the rabbinic tradition and his conception of evil is largely based on an interaction with the Talmudic and Midra ic texts. Therefore, we would like to review thirty-nine rabbinic ‘quotes’ which appear in chapters 8 to 24 in the third part of the Guide and deal with the origin of evil, the meaning of suffering and the evil inclination. Maimonides reappropriates the midra im that are susceptible of being in agreement with his rationalist positions and also quotes some rabbinic traditions that are too close to mu tazilism, undoubtedly aware of the more profound resemblance that exists between the rabbinic and mu tazilite doctrines of evil and retribution.
