Abstract: Paracoccidioidomycosis is the most prevalent systemic mycosis in Latin America. It is a fungal infection caused by the dimorphic fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. This microorganism can penetrate the human body through direct contact and can cause intense lymphadenopathy, ulcerated lesions in the oral cavity and in the skin among other alterations. In this study, we report a case of paracoccidioidomycosis with unusual clinical presentation, as it manifested in the female sex and although it did not present any relevant complaints of respiratory focus, it presented a single ulcerated lesion in the buccal mucosa. A biopsy of the lesion and a mycological examination revealed Paracoccidioidesbrasiliensis infection.

Abstract: nowadays, most of the drugs have amine group in their structure. these drugs, when associated to sugar reducers, or other carbonyl excipients frequently produce dark stains or fading. the maillard reaction can explain such occurrence. in this work, we have studied the behavior of syrups containing aromatic amines. it is known that association of sugars and amines can generate problems of stability. the chosen prototype was the metoclopramide hydrochloride, a benzamide, with anti-emetic pharmacological activity. samples of the metoclopramide syrups were maintained in stove at 40 °c for six months. in regular time intervals aliquots were removed and submitted to quantitative determination by the bratton-marshall's method, followed by a spectrophotometric determination. there was not great variation of the metoclopramide level in relation to sugar level, once metoclopramide samples were prepared in different sugar levels. there was a decrease of the metoclopramide level, over 50%, for commercial and standardized samples, after a period in stove

Abstract: The objective of this study was to correlate the testicular measurements and weight gain, as well as the possible influence of the feeding level on the morphometry of the testicles of 32 crossbred Holstein/Zebu, in sexual development process, kept in Brachiaria brizantha pasture submitted to two levels of energy supplementation (0.5% and 1.0% of LW, TM and TH) during the second half of the rainy season. In vivo growth of scrotal perimeter and the final measures of the glandular portion of the testicles accordingto the perimeter, length, width, volume, weight and shape were evaluated. The correlation coefficients between the testicular measures and weight gain were moderately positive, ranging between 0.12 and 0.32. The frequency analysis showed that long testicles of long prevailed in both treatments, with respectively 65% and 54% for TM and TH. There was a significant effect (p <0.05) of the feed system on the in vivo gain of scrotal perimeter in favor of the high level of supplementation (TH), which gained 5.93 cm versus 3.71 cm of the TM group. There was no significant effect (p> 0.05) of the feeding level on the testicles glandular measures. It was concluded that these characteristics are determined by the stage of sexual development and not by the feeding level and the testicular measures should not be used alone as a criterion for assessing the performance of crossbreed young bulls.

World Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery (WJCS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/wjcs.2013.35035
Abstract: Background: Organic cellular inflammatory response constitutes a pathophysiological mechanism present in all Coronary Artery Bypass Graftings (CABGs). In this aspect, the organism brings forth its defenses through answers that involve cellular components. Objectives: To evaluate, in a randomized double-blind prospective study, controlled with placebo, the effects of trimetazidine (Tmz) on cellular response, analyzed through the variation of leukocytes, neutrophils and monocytes. Patients and Method: 30 patients were randomly selected to be studied, with no more than a mild ventricular dysfunction, and divided into two groups (Tmz and placebo) stratified by echocardiography and receiving medication/placebo in a 60 mg/day dose. The samples of leukocytes, neutrophils and monocytes were obtained in the pre-operatory day without medication, at surgery day with 12 to 15 days of medication/placebo, with 5 minutes after the aortic declamping, and within 12, 24 and 48 hours after surgery. Results: The leukocytes and neutrophils levels have decreased significantly in the treated group when compared to the control group, in all analyzed moments (p = 0.012; p = 0.005). Conclusions and Clinical Implications: Trimetazidine has proved to reduce significantly the levels of total leukocytes and neutrophils in patients submitted to CABG.

Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1997,
Abstract: Goyazensolide, a component extracted of Eremanthus goyazensis showed a significant inhibitory effect on egg-laying of Schistosoma mansoni during in vitro cultivation of this parasite. Motility of the worms was also reduced under treatment with goyazensolide and 90% of mortality was reached with concentrations up to 4mg/ml. It has found that separated worms were more susceptible than worms pairing during drug exposition and female alone was significantly more susceptible than male worm in the same conditions of in vitro cultivation. Natural products isolated from plants represent potential sources for the identification of structures useful for the design of alternative molecules to be used as new drug substances against several infectious diseases
