Abstract: the garlic germplasm collection maintained by embrapa hortali?as comprises 89 accessions, representing the genetic diversity of this crop in the country. duplicates of the same genotype increase the cost of maintaining the collection, as well as make difficult their agronomic evaluation. the identification of duplicated accessions of the garlic germoplasm active bank was obtained through analysis of 27 variables of morphological characteristics. genotypic differentiation among thirteen groups was achieved by cluster analysis. the most important features for distinction of these groups through principal components analysis were: plant height with erect leaves at 60 days; plant height with normal leaves at 60 days; leaf insertion angle at 90 days; bulb colour; number of bulblets from sieves one, two, and four; weight of bulblets from sieve two; average weight of bulbs at harvest time; and average bulb weight at threshing time. the most important features for the distinction of group genotype representatives by canonic variables analysis were: plant height with erect leaves at 120 days; plant height with normal leaves at 60 days; leaf insertion angle at 90 days; number of leaves at 60 and 90 days; number of bulbs at harvest time; total number of bulbs; average weight of plants at first day and at 60 days; and average weight of bulbs. genotype representatives of different groups were distinctly characterised on the basis of 34 parameters, complemented by canonic variables analysis.

American Journal of Plant Sciences (AJPS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ajps.2016.711146
Abstract: Aims: Twelve crude extracts were prepared from different parts of Pluchea sagittalis, Cecropia palmata and Brachiaria brizantha, and their effect on the light reaction of photosynthesis. Study Design: Use of fluorescence of ChL a (Chlorophyll a) to detect inhibitors of photosynthesis in plant extracts. Place and Duration of Study: Instituto de Ciências Ambientais, Químicas e Farmacêuticas, Departamento de Ciências Exatas e da Terra, Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo (UNIFESP), between July 2015 and January 2016. Methodology: The samples had their effect on the light reaction of photosynthesis studied by Chlorophyll a (Chl a) fluorescence transient by the use of chloroplasts isolated from spinach leaves. As negative controls we used the same amounts of DMSO that have been employed to solubilize the samples, and as positive control we have used 10 μM of the commercial herbicide DCMU (Diuron). Results: The extracts inhibited the photosynthesis, and their inhibition sites were located in the range of electron flow from OEC complex and between P680 to QA of PS II, and inhibited the photosystem II (PS II) by inducing the appearance of the transient bands K and J. Conclusion: Our results suggest an indicative that the photochemical apparatus probably is failing at the donor and acceptor sides of PSII, causing damage to electron transport during the photosynthesis phenomenon.

Abstract: the enso (el ni?o south oscillation) events and the atlantic sea surface temperature (sst) effects on the rainfall in the semi-arid region of state of paraíba, brazil, were evaluated using the wilcoxom-mann-whitney test, based on the rainfall data for the period 1970-2000, furnished by the lmrs-pb (meteorological, water resources and remote sensing laboratory of the state of paraíba). the results show that a significant difference, at the level of 5% of probability, exists related to periods with and without influence of enos events and of atlantic sst for the state of paraíba. for the municipalities of sousa (alto sert?o region) and sumé (cariri occidental region) this difference also was significant at 5%, however for the municipality of picuí (seridó/curimataú region) it was significant at 10%. this fact evidences the direct influence of the enos events and of the atlantic sst on the variability of the mean values of the rainfall rates in the evaluated municipalities.

Morais, Márcia de Fátima;Moccellin, Joo Vitor;
Gest?o & Produ??o , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-530X2010000200011
Abstract: this paper presents an investigation about the hybrid flow shop problem with asymmetric sequence dependent setup times and proposes constructive heuristic methods to minimize the mean flow time aiming at fast demand response and work in process reduction. the proposed heuristic methods were compared among themselves since no constructive heuristic method was found in the literature on the scheduling problem considered in this work. a study on the influence of the relation between the orders of magnitude of processing and setup time for each method was carried out. the influence of the scheduling procedure adopted was investigated to assess the performance of the methods use
Crime social, castigo social: desigualdade de renda e taxas de criminalidade nos grandes municípios brasileiros
Resende, Joo Paulo de;Andrade, M?nica Viegas;
Estudos Econ?micos (S?o Paulo) , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-41612011000100007
Abstract: economic theory suggests that income inequality contributes to the increase of crime. indeed, this is a recurrent result in brazilian studies, which usually work with homicide data. the international literature, however, tends to explore data for different types of crimes, for which the results aren't always so strong. this paper explored the criminal report database from the brazilian national department for crime prevention for large cities, which afforded the possibility of unbundling crime rates into different types of crime.the results reveal a significant effect of inequality mostly upon property crimes. as this category of crime responds for the great majority of registered criminal offenses, income inequality takes a central role in determining crime rates in brazil.

Scientia Agricola , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-90162002000300027
Abstract: the choice of germplasm plays an important role in any plant breeding program. the goals of this paper were to characterize and to evaluate the genetic potential of iapar's maize (zea mays l.) landraces for breeding purposes. characterization of 25 landraces of maize for endosperm type and kernel color is shown. in 1998/99, experiments using randomized complete block designs with two replications were carried out in three locations of brazil (londrina-pr, ponta grossa-pr, and anhembi-sp). for grain yield, the most promising landraces were gi156 (cayano sobrália) and gi045 (tupy pyta sopé). their performances for grain yield represent 86.9% and 84.6% of the hybrid ag122 yield, respectively, and were of the same magnitude of the adapted varieties (br-105 and br-106).

Mean-field solution of the Blume-Capel model under a random crystal field
Priscila V. dos Santos,Francisco A. da Costa,Joo M. de Araújo
Physics , 2015,
Abstract: In this work we investigate the Blume-Capel model with infinite-range ferromagnetic interactions and under the influence of a quenched disorder - a random crystal field. For a suitable choice of the random crystal field the model displays a wealth of multicritical behavior, continuous and first-order transition lines, as well as re-entrant behavior. The resulting phase diagrams show a variety of topologies as a function of the disorder parameter $\textit{p}$. A comparison with recent results on the Blume-Capel model in random crystal field is discussed.
