Abstract: Introduction: Hospital Recreation (HR) aims to reduce disasters caused by hospital admission. Objectives: To expose the behavior of children in cancer treatment (CA) during HR, and to verify which recreational activities generate the most adherence. Methods: The research is an experimental clinical trial of a non-probabilistic and intentional sample, with a quantitative and qualitative approach. Participants were 43 children (both sexes), with CA, admitted to the Pediatric Hospital Oncology CenterPHOC. The mean age of the children in fact was 7.5 years, and the data of mean and standard deviation between parenthood confer with the data of the results found during the research. The study lasted 12 weeks, with 38 sessions lasting 3 hours. Using games of activity: cognitive, manipulative, perceptive, creative and cooperative. Inclusion criteria: 1) being hospitalized in the PHOC, of the city of Natal; 2) being released by the medical team to participate in the activities. Children who were on special care in the ICU were excluded from the study. The behavior of the children was evaluated by the observation matrix proposed by Urie Bonfenbrenner, approached by Krebs and Koller. At

Revista Brasileira de Cirurgia Plástica , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1983-51752011000300021
Abstract: background: umbilicoplasty techniques vary greatly, in both the manner in which the incision the umbilical scar is incised, as well as the manner in which the skin of the abdominal flap is opened and repaired at the aponeurosis and/or the umbilical stump. as the postoperative appearance of the umbilical scar is aesthetically unsatisfying, the authors sought to develop a new technique aimed at providing patients with a greater degree of aesthetic and postoperative satisfaction. methods: the abdominoplasties included in this study were performed in 194 patients at clínica valle pereira (florianópolis, sc) between february 2009 and january 2011. all patients underwent conventional abdominoplasties and triangular umbilicoplasties with skin flaps. results: only 8 (4.13%) patients had mild complications. there were no severe complications. positive satisfaction was reported by patients in 188 (96.91%) cases and by surgeons in 186 (95.88%) cases. conclusions: the technique described in this study demonstrates versatility, simplicity in application, and reproducibility, bringing greater harmony in body contouring and improved appearance of the umbilical scar, a major stigma of abdominoplasty

The research aimed to evaluated and analyze the cognitive and affective characteristics of children diagnosed with autism and that presented normal intelligence, through Rorschach test and Exner Comprehensive System. Children under this condition have deficits in emotional and social development since early ages. Rorschach test was applied to 21boys from 6 years and 6 months to 16 years and 2 months, diagnosed with autism through DSM-IV-TR criteria and showed signs of intelligence in the normal range, measured by Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, third edition. The data showed the existence of a relative integrity of the cognitive perceptual processing. The relational deficit index was positive, exhibiting difficulties in facing the ordinary social demands, compatible with clinical description. Regarding the variables selected to be observed, we found a large variability in many of them, which indicates that one cannot say that part of a specific profile for children with pervasive developmental disorders, being probably in individual characteristics.

Abstract: purpose: the aim of this study was to evaluate the relaxation in vitro of cavernous smooth muscle induced by a new no donor of the complex nitrosil-ruthenium, named trans-[ru(nh3)4(caffeine)(no)]c13 (rut-caf) and sodium nitroprusside (snp). materials and methods: the tissues, immersed in isolated bath systems, were pre-contracted with phenilephrine (pe) (1 μm) and then concentration-response curves (10-12 - 10-4 m) were obtained. to clarify the mechanism of action involved, it was added to the baths odq (10 μm, 30 μm), oxyhemoglobin (10 μm), l-cysteine (100 μm), hydroxicobalamine (100 μm), glibenclamide, iberotoxin and apamine. tissue samples were frozen in liquid nitrogen to measure the amount of cgmp and camp produced. results: the substances provoked significant relaxation of the cavernous smooth muscle. both rut-caf and snp determined dose-dependent relaxation with similar potency (pec50) and maximum effect (emax). the substances showed activity through activation of the soluble guanylyl cyclase (sgc), because the relaxations were inhibited by odq. oxyhemoglobin significantly diminished the relaxation effect of the substances. l-cysteine failed to modify the relaxations caused by the agents. hydroxicobalamine significantly diminished the relaxation effect of rut-caf. glibenclamide significantly increased the efficacy of rut-caf (pec50 4.09 x 7.09). there were no alterations of potency or maximum effect of the substances with the addition of the other ion channel blockers. rut-caf induced production of significant amounts of cgmp and camp during the relaxation process. conclusions: in conclusion, rut-caf causes relaxation of smooth muscle of corpus cavernosum by means of activation of sgc with intracellular production of cgmp and camp; and also by release of no in the intracellular environment. rut-caf releases the no free radical and it does not act directly on the potassium ion channels.

Abstract: the phlebotomine sand flies are the natural vectors of some etiological agents of human and animal diseases, such as the protozoa of the genus leishmania ross, 1903. the phlebotomine fauna in mato grosso do sul is relatively well known and so far consists of 54 species. the present study is based on the survey of the phlebotomine fauna of the urban area of the 18 municipal districts with transmission of visceral leishmaniasis, in the state of mato grosso do sul, for the purpose of verifying the main species and providing data for the leishmaniasis control programmes. the collections were undertaken with automatic light traps, installed monthly on three consecutive nights, from 06:00 pm to 6:00 am over a two-year period. a total of 34,799 sand fly specimens, belonging to 36 species, were collected. lutzomyia longipalpis (lutz & neiva, 1912) and nyssomyia whitmani (antunes, 1939) were the most widely dispersed species, the former was found in 16 and the latter in 15 out of the 18 municipalities investigated, however, lu. longipalpis was predominant in all the municipalities and ny. whitmani was not predominant in any of them. corumbá contributed with 40.92% of the specimens and lutzomyia cruzi (mangabeira, 1938) with 92.50% of the specimens captured there. it is suggested that the species of lutzomyia genus and ny. whitmani may be involved in the transmission of leishmaniasis in mato grosso do sul state.
