Sedimentary Environment of the Early Ordovician in Danzhai, Guizhou  [PDF]

Abstract: This study analyzes the variations in trace element contents and ratios, the distribution patterns of rare earth elements, and the sedimentary environment and its evolution in the Early Ordovician. In particular, the analysis is based on measured section of the Qingjiang Village located in Nangao Town, Danzhai County, Guizhou Province. The analysis also considers thin sections and the characteristics of C, O isotopes. The lower part of the Tongzi Formation has a simple lithology and mainly consists of light gray to gray thin-medium bedded muddy dolomite and dolomicrite with a few dolarenites and dolorudites. The upper part of this formation includes gray thin-medium bedded fine crystalline dolomite and gray massive bioclastic limestone. Only a fraction of gray massive fine crystalline limestone, sparry calcarenite, and calcirudite are on top of the upper part. The Honghuayuan Formation is generally composed of light gray to gray medium-thick bedded or massive bioclastic limestone, reef limestone, and calcarenite with a few sandstones at the bottom. The δ18OPDB values of 18 samples are less than -11‰; in addition, the Pr/Pr* and Ce/Ce* ratios are greater and less than 1, respectively. These data reflect a sedimentary environment. The lower part of the Tongzi Formation might have been formed in an evaporite platform, which was then transformed into a restricted one, which featured a dry climate, a shallow water depth, and an insufficient amount of oxygen. By contrast, the upper part of the formation was deposited in an open platform, which featured a humid climate and relatively increased water depth and reducibility. During the sedimentary period of the Honghuayuan Formation, the water energy further increased, the climate became humid, the water depth increased, and the reducibility increased. Correspondingly, the sedimentary environment, which originally comprised littoral facies that slowly developed into an open platform and into a platform marginal bank, gradually evolved into a platform marginal reef.

Abstract: 介绍了用高效液相色谱法测定冯了性风湿跌打药酒中东莨菪素含量的方法。色谱柱为SpherisobC_(18)柱(150mm×4.6mm,5μm);流动相为甲醇-水(46:54,V/V)的混合液;流速0.8mL/min;检测波长360nm,样品流过Sep-pakC_(18)微柱,收集第6mL至第8mL的流出液作供试液。方法平均回收率为101.0%,RSD=0.93%。进样量在0.206~2.06μg范围内线性关系良好,r=0.9997.所建立的方法可作为冯了性风湿跌打药酒质量控制的一种简便、快速和准确的测定方法。
p53 Family: Role of Protein Isoforms in Human Cancer

Abstract: TP53, TP63, and TP73 genes comprise the p53 family. Each gene produces protein isoforms through multiple mechanisms including extensive alternative mRNA splicing. Accumulating evidence shows that these isoforms play a critical role in the regulation of many biological processes in normal cells. Their abnormal expression contributes to tumorigenesis and has a profound effect on tumor response to curative therapy. This paper is an overview of isoform diversity in the p53 family and its role in cancer. 1. Introduction Alternative splicing allows a single gene to express multiple protein variants. It is estimated that 92–95% of human multiexon genes undergo alternative splicing [1, 2]. Abnormal alterations of splicing may interfere with normal cellular homeostasis and lead to cancer development [3–5]. The p53 protein family is comprised of three transcription factors: p53, p63, and p73. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that this family originated from a p63/73-like ancestral gene early in metazoan evolution [6, 7]. Maintenance of genetic stability of germ cells seems to be its ancestral function [8]. The p53 family regulates many vital biological processes, including cell differentiation, proliferation, and cell death/apoptosis [9, 10]. Dysregulation of the p53 family plays a critical role in tumorigenesis and significantly affects tumor response to therapy. This review summarizes current data on the regulation of p53, p63, and p73 isoforms and their roles in cancer. 2. Structure and Function p53, p63, and p73 genes are located on chromosomes 17p13.1, 3q27-29, and 1p36.2-3, respectively. These genes encode proteins with similar domain structures and significant amino acid sequence homology in the transactivation, DNA-binding and oligomerization domains (Figure 1). The highest amino acid identity is in the DNA-binding domain (~60%). Evolutionally, this domain is the most conserved, suggesting that regulation of transcription plays a pivotal role in an array of functions attributed to the p53 family. Abstract: p53 tumor suppressor has been identified as a protein interacting with the large T antigen produced by simian vacuolating virus 40 (SV40). Subsequent research on p53 inhibition by SV40 and other tumor viruses has not only helped to gain a better understanding of viral biology, but also shaped our knowledge of human tumorigenesis. Recent studies have found, however, that inhibition of p53 is not strictly in the realm of viruses. Some bacterial pathogens also actively inhibit p53 protein and induce its degradation, resulting in alteration of cellular stress responses. This phenomenon was initially characterized in gastric epithelial cells infected with Helicobacter pylori, a bacterial pathogen that commonly infects the human stomach and is strongly linked to gastric cancer. Besides H. pylori, a number of other bacterial species were recently discovered to inhibit p53. These findings provide novel insights into host–bacteria interactions and tumorigenesis associated with bacterial infections.

Powell gave an estimation of the lower bound of the trust-region subproblem by considering the negative gradient direction. In this article, we give an alternate way to estimate the same lower bound of the trust-region subproblem.

Abstract: Statisticians have recently proposed some methods for ranking the gene variables with outlier expressions. The major attraction of these methods is their ability to select the variables which show systematic decrease or increase in only a subset of samples in the disease group. In order to fully account for the outliers, in this article, we truncate the expression values and propose an alternative method to rank the variables with systematic increase or decrease. The proposed statistic is very simple to implement. Simulations and real data study show that the proposed statistic has a more powerful ability to rank the variables than some methods in literature.

Abstract: After discovery of the superluminal particle and consideration on development of contemporary physical theory research, also on the existing errors and omissions, the principle of constant light speed is found not a necessary condition in derivation of Lorentz Transformation; instead, this thesis proposes the velocity of graviton may feature superluminal, constant velocity in different directions, and independence of inertial reference frame speeds. This is an optional thought of correction. According serial hypothesis, an equation of graviton’s motion trace, i.e., the central curve of nebula density, is established for spiral galaxy. Thus we gain the method to measure velocity of graviton. If to totally avoid problem of limit speed, we have to search for independent of inertia frames, and relevant to space-time properties. Regarding current difficulties of singular points in the Theory of Limited Universe, this thesis points out that the document [1] is the best solution to these difficulties.

Abstract:
A collection of texts conventionally ascribed to Jia Yi 賈誼 (200-168 BC), the Xinshu 新書 has been subjected to an ages-long debate regarding its authenticity. The present study disclaims the discovery of any adequate evidence to prove the text trustworthy; but it finds the arguments for its forgery ill founded. Rather than present merely an account of this dilemma or attempt to corroborate either position in the debate, this paper argues against the approach in textual criticism that views early texts through a dualistic prism of authenticity vs. forgery. A case of forgery should be established upon no less concrete evidence than should one of authenticity. The mere lack of positive evidence can hardly be regarded or used as any negative evidence to disprove a text. Given the dilemma, the paper suggests treating the Xinshu nonetheless as a workable and even currently reliable source for our study of Jia Yi until that very day dawns upon us with any unequivocal evidence of its forgery detected or, better still, excavated.
FDI in Services and Manufacturing Efficiencies in Host Countries: Evidence from China  [PDF]

Abstract:

The paper studies the correlations between FDI in services and manufacturing efficiencies in host countries. First a theoretical analysis is presented on the direct and indirect channels through which FDI in services enhances manufacturing efficiencies in host countries. Then the forward linkages and backward linkages between FDI in services and manufacturing sector in host countries are tested empirically using China’s industrial panel data. We find that FDI in services has positive forward and backward linkage effects on China’s manufacturing sector, with forward linkages stronger than backward linkages, and the wholesale, retail, trade and restaurant sector has the strongest linkage effects.

Abstract:

Lawrence’s writing is heavily influenced by his social background. He is in an incompatible family, for his parents come from different social classes. His sensitiveness to class distinctions brought about by his family background is deeply rooted in his writings. Novel Sons and Lovers is this typical work. One of the distinctive features of the novel is the use of two language varieties which expresses the bilingual situation of the Morels’ family in Sons and Lovers. The writer Lawrence alternatively uses two language varieties in dialogues to reveal the psychology of the characters and the most characteristic of his theme: class conflict. This study researches into the use of language varieties of three major characters (Mr. Mo-rel, Mrs. Morel and their son Paul) in Sons and Loversfrom the viewpoint of code switching to discover how class conflict is presented by alternative use of language varieties. To appreciate and deeply understand the novel, it is necessary to know the application of code switching in this work.
