Reduced Oral Microbial Diversity in Individuals Harbor Periodontal Diseases

Abstract: Introduction: Bacteria colonize a variety of surfaces of the hu-man body. The bacterial diversity in the oral cavity is estimated to be more than 700 different species. The oral cavity is home to microbial communities, with important implications for human health and disease. Oral microbial flora is responsible for two major human infectious diseases of the oral cavity, dental caries and periodontal diseases. From the clinical samples, previously, using polymerase chain reaction-based denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) technique, we found a significantly greater diversity of oral microbes in caries-free individuals compared with caries-active individuals. The hypothesis: We hypothesize that a greater diversity of indigenous bacteria inhabits a healthy oral environment, and that a sig-nificant proportion of oral biota may be absent, suppressed, or replaced in a periodontal diseases environment. Evaluation of the hypothesis: The microbiota undergoes a transition from a commensal to a pathogenic relationship with the host due to factors that trigger a shift in the proportions of resident microorganisms. If our hypothesis is true, many techniques which were used to detect the oral bacterial diversity can be used in diagnosis and prognosis of periodontal diseases.
Detection of 16S rRNA Methylase Genes in Gram-Negative Bacilli Isolated from Hospitals in Changchun, China  [PDF]

Abstract:

Methylation of 16S rRNA is an important mechanism of aminoglycoside resistance among gram-negative pathogens. In this report, 16S rRNA methylase genes were amplified using PCR among gram-negative bacillus isolates from hospitals in the Changchun area of China and 16S rRNA methylase genotypes (armA, rmtB, rmtA, rmtC, rmtD, and npmA) were identified by direct sequencing. Fifty of the isolates (43.1%) harbored 16S rRNA methylase genes. The common 16S rRNA methylase genes were armA and rmtB (12.1% and 31.0%, respectively), whereas the rmtA, rmtC, rmtD, and npmA genes were absent from the sample. It suggests that the predominant 16S rRNA methylase genes among gramnegative bacilli in the Changchun area are armA and rmtB.

 

Characteristics and sources of 2002 super dust storm in Beijing

Abstract: On 20 March, 2002, a super dust storm attacked Beijing, which was stronger than any dust storm ever recorded. The concentration of total suspended particulates (TSP) reached 10.9 mg · m 3, 54 times as high as the national air quality standard. The concentrations of major crustal elements, such as Ca, Al, Fe, Na, Mg and Ti, were 30–58 times higher than those in non-dust storm days. The concentrations of pollution elements, such as Zn, Cu, Pb, As, Cd and S, were also about several or even nearly ten times higher than those in normal days. The enrichment factors of Pb, As, Cd and S in PM2.5 were as high as 12.7, 29.6, 43.5, 28.4, indicating that these pollutants came from the mixing of mineral aerosol with pollution aerosol emitted by pollution sources on the way of dust storm’s long-range transport. The overlap of invaded air mass from dust with pollution air mass from Beijing local area was another reason for the enhancement of pollutants. During dust storm, fine particles (PM2.5) accounted for 30% of TSP and pollutants in PM2.5 accounted for even as high as 45%–69% of TSP. The increase of pollutants after dust storm proved further that mineral aerosol, especially the fine particles from dust storm favored the transformation and accumulation of pollutants. It must be noted that Fe (II) was detected again in this dust storm, which provided new evidence for the mechanism of coupling and feedback between iron and sulfur in the atmosphere and the ocean. The increase of both pollutants and nutrient, Fe(II), during dust storm illuminated that dust storm is an important factor affecting the global environment change.
Control of the carrier-envelope phases of a synchronously pumped femtosecond optical parametric oscillator and its applications

Abstract: The intrinsic synchronization, multi-color outputs and related carrier-envelope phases (CEP) among pulses bring advantages to synchronously pumped femtosecond optical parametric oscillators and the pumping sources for broadband frequency comb generation and ultrashort waveform coherent synthesis. In this paper, we discuss our latest research results in this field, which cover the following aspects: the phase relationship and energy conservation law in an OPO and related experimental verification; control of the pumping Ti:sapphire femtosecond laser’s CEP by self-referencing technology, and its repetition-rate locking by piezoelectric transducer (PZT); CEP locking of the pulses from the OPO by beating the non-phase-matched visible outputs against pump supercontinuum to obtain a driving signal for a fast PZT on the OPO end mirror; the generation of a broadband frequency comb spanning from 400 nm to 2.4 μm with 1.2 kHz bandwidth; and the realization of coherent interference between phase controlled pump pulses and signal second harmonic pulses.

Abstract: Two asynchronous, broadband 3.3-μm pulse trains with a stabilized repetition-rate difference of up to 5-kHz were generated from a single optical parametric oscillator. With additional carrier-envelope-offset stabilization, it could be applied to coherent dual-frequency-comb spectroscopy.
The Impact of Terms of Trade Changes on Economic Welfare: Evidence from China  [PDF]

Abstract: Based on the statistics of 1993-2010, this paper analyzes the changing trend and causes of terms of trade in China and studies the overall movement in China’s national wealth by introducing the GDI index under SNA accounting framework. This paper analyzes the relevance between export and real GDP by using the Pearson correlation and partial correlation method, with the final consumption as the economic welfare evaluation index. This paper also presents the change of national wealth by using the weak axiom of revealed preference theory. The result of the study shows that, China’s economic growth is not strongly dependent on exports. It is the export structure of labor intensive products with low price elasticity that mainly lead to the continuously decline of terms of trade in China. However the loss of welfare from the terms of trade’s decline is not enough to offset the benefits of the economic growth. Therefore there is no probability of “Immiserizing Growth” in China’s foreign trade.

Abstract: In Hilbert spaces , through improving some corresponding conditions in some literature and extending some recent relevent results, a strong convergence theorem of some implicit iteration process for pesudocon-traction mappings and explicit iteration process for nonexpansive mappings were established. And by using the result, some iterative solution for some equation of response diffusion were obtained.

Abstract: The travelling of light signal in medium of sea water is more complex than that in air,because it was interruptted by many factors.Theorical and experimental survey show that the symmetrical lighting system is an efficient method of improving the contrast of image,We have done an experiment using symmetrical double light sources,it shows that the contrast is improved by twice of single light source.
