Evaluation of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings and Short-Term Outcome in Brain Metastatic Tumors after CyberKnife Treatment  [PDF]

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the treatments’ outcomes in brain metastatic tumors after CyberKnife treatment according to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings and improvement of symptoms. Methods: A retrospective analysis of CyberKnife treatment; 63 cases of patients with brain metastases; the use of CyberKnife treatment; short-term outcome evaluation after treatment and the MRI findings and measured before treatment and underwent diffusion-weighted imaging MRI scan of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values. Results: 3 months after CyberKnife treatment and effectiveness were 82.5% and 96.8% respectively; 6 months and one year survival rates were 82.5% and 55.6% respectively; the median survival time was 16 months. MRI of 52 patients (67 lesions) ADC values after treatment increased to some extent than before treatment. There are 38 lesions volume to shrink or disappear, no enhancement or slight enhancement in the lesion, no edema zone; 27 lesions does not change in volume, no edema (18 lesions significantly weakened the degree of enhancement; 6 lesions showed no obvious change enhancement; 3 lesions showed ring enhancement, internal cystic); 2 lesions volume were larger, heterogeneous enhancement, peripheral edema. Conclusion: CyberKnife is an effective method for treating brain metastatic tumor. MRI can accurately evaluate tumor lesions after treatment.
A New Proof for the Tight Range of Optimal Order Quantities for the Newsboy Problem with Mean and Standard Deviation  [PDF]

Abstract: In the classical Newsboy problem, we provide a new proof for the tight range of optimal order quantities for the newsboy problem when only the mean and standard deviation of demand are available. The new proof is only based on the definition of the optimal solution therefore it is the most straightforward method. It is also shown that the classical Scarf’s rule is the mid-point of the range of optimal order quantities. This provides an additional understanding of Scarf’s order rule as a distribution free decision.

Abstract:
With the rapid rise of outdoor sports in our country, the number of casualties increased dramatically. This article studies the moral issues behind the outdoor sports casualties in China from the perspective of ethics by using the literature data method and the investigation method. Starting from three perspectives: Individual participant, group participant and event organizer; this study looks for ethical issues in an accident, and discusses the causes. Furthermore, the author further analyzes the moral norms that our country outdoor sports should follow, and suggests that the following practices should be done to promote the harmonious developments of outdoor sports in China: 1) Strengthen moral education and the unity of knowledge and practice. 2) Improve self-discipline and improve personality. 3) Strengthen guidance of social public opinions, and value guidance. 4) Strengthen the moral evaluation and cultivation.

Development of a Model for Water and Heat Exchange Between the Atmosphere and a Water Body

Abstract: A model for studying the heat and mass exchange between the atmosphere and a water body is developed,in which the phase change process of water freezing in winter and melting in summer and the function of the convective mixing process are taken into consideration. The model uses enthalpy rather than temperature as the predictive variable. It helps to set up governing equations more concisely, to deal with the phase change process more easily, and make the numerical scheme simpler. The model is verified by observed data from Lake Kinneret for a non-frozen lake in summer time, and Lake Lower Two Medicine for a frozen lake in winter time. Reasonably good agreements between the model simulations and observed data indicate that the model can serve as a component for a water body in a land surface model. In order to more efficiently apply the scheme in a climate system model, a sensitivity study of various division schemes with less layers in the vertical direction in the water body is conducted. The results of the study show that the division with around 10 vertical layers could produce a prediction accuracy that is comparable to the fine division with around 40 layers.

Abstract: A newLondon-Eyring-Polanyi-Sato (LEPS) potential energy surface (PES) is used in the O + CH4 → OH + CH3 reaction via the quasiclassical trajectory method (QCT). Comparing with the experiments and the former ab initio calculations, the new LEPS PES describes the actual potential energy surface of the O + CH4 reaction successfully. The four polarization dependent “generalized” differential cross sections (PDDCS) are presented in the center of mass frame. In the meantime, the distribution of dihedral angle [P(φr), the distribution of angle between k and j' (P(θr)] and the angular distribution of product rotational vectors in the form of polar plots in θr andφr (P(θr, φr) are calculated. The isotope effect for the reactions O + CD4 is also calculated. These results are in good agreement with the experiments.
Investigation of Spectroscopic Properties and Spin-Orbit Splitting in the X2Π and A2Π Electronic States of the SO+ Cation

Abstract: The potential energy curves (PECs) of the X 2Π and A 2Π electronic states of the SO + ion are calculated using the complete active space self-consistent field method, which is followed by the internally contracted multireference configuration interaction (MRCI) approach for internuclear separations from 0.08 to 1.06 nm. The spin-orbit coupling effect on the spectroscopic parameters is included using the Breit-Pauli operator. To improve the quality of PECs and spin-orbit coupling constant ( A 0), core-valence correlation and scalar relativistic corrections are included. To obtain more reliable results, the PECs obtained by the MRCI calculations are corrected for size-extensivity errors by means of the Davidson modification (MRCI+Q). At the MRCI+Q/aug-cc-pV5Z+CV+DK level, the A 0 values of the SO +(X 2Π 1/2, 3/2) and SO +(A 2Π 1/2, 3/2) are 362.13 and 58.16 cm ?1 when the aug-cc-pCVTZ basis set is used to calculate the spin-orbit coupling splitting, and the A 0 of the SO +(X 2Π 1/2, 3/2) and SO +(A 2Π 1/2, 3/2) are 344.36 and 52.90 cm ?1 when the aug-cc-pVTZ basis set is used to calculate the spin-orbit coupling splitting. The conclusion is drawn that the core-valence correlations correction makes the A 0 slightly larger. The spectroscopic results are obtained and compared with those reported in the literature. Excellent agreement exists between the present results and the measurements. The vibrational manifolds are calculated, and those of the first 30 vibrational states are reported for the J = 0 case. Comparison with the measurements shows that the present vibrational manifolds are both reliable and accurate.
In situ Nd isotopic measurement of natural geological materials by LA-MC-ICPMS

Abstract: Using newly determined Sm isotopic abundances for correcting the isobaric interference of 144Sm on 144Nd and the established mass bias relationship between Sm and Nd, a series of in situ Nd isotopic measurements were conducted for relatively high Nd concentrations of natural geological materials, including apatite, titanite, monazite and perovskite on a Neptune multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICPMS), coupled to a 193 nm ArF excimer laser ablation system. The results show that Ce has no significant influence on the precision and accuracy of Nd isotopic analyses for LREE-enriched geological minerals and that our approach is efficient in obtaining reliable 143Nd/144Nd and 147Sm/144Nd ratios for those materials with Sm/Nd<1 (147Sm/144Nd<0.6). When combined with trace element and U-Pb isotope data, the in situ Nd isotopic data can provide important information on geological processes.

Abstract: This paper has numerically studied the dynamical behaviors of a fractional-order single-machine infinite-bus (FOSMIB) power system. Periodic motions, period- doubling bifurcations and chaotic attractors are observed in the FOSMIB power system. The existence of chaotic behavior is affirmed by the positive largest Lyapunov exponent (LLE). Based on the fractional-order backstepping method, an adaptive controller is proposed to suppress chaos in the FOSMIB power system. Numerical simulation results demonstrate the validity of the proposed controller.
