Abstract: Ian McEwan, together with Martin Amis is now the best-known and controversial contemporary British novelist. McEwan seems to be interested in the relationship between reality and imagina-tion, history and fabrication in the process of writing, which is generally considered as one of the themes related to postmodern metafiction writing. He also adopts the postmodern intertextuality in his writing practice. Those postmodern concerns and strategies confirm his position as a post-modernist.

Abstract: Ian McEwan, together with Martin Amis, is now the best-known and controversial contemporary British novelist. Atonement is regarded as the best of McEwan books and is shortlisted for the Booker Prize. It displays features of modernism and postmodernism, with the application of stream of consciousness, multiple voices, montage and flashbacks, becoming increasingly experimental in form.
Research on quantified diagnosis and combining diseases with syndrome of blood stasis

Abstract: Objective: To explore the way of quantified diagnosis of blood stasis syndrome (BSS) and the essence of BSS. Methods: Using t-test and logistic regression to analyze the symptoms, signs, and objective indexes of BSS in clinical test. Results: (1) The levels of endothelin, nitric oxide, and t-PA between 182 patients with BSS and non-BSS had notable difference. (2) The stepwise regression analysis about hemoglobin, triglyceride, total cholesterol, endothelin, nitric oxide, and t-PA in 170 patients with BSS or non-BSS revealed that the order of these indexes considering their importance was: endothelin, hemoglobin, t-PA, nitric oxide. However, the triglyceride and total cholesterol could not enter the regression equations. (3) The stepwise regression analysis about 40 symptoms and signs in 601 patients with BSS or non-BSS revealed that the 18 items had the very contribution to diagnose the BSS when the F value was 6, and so a regression equation was available. The total coincidence ratio was 94.24% when the other quantified data about BSS were tested in the equation. Conclusion: The standardized TCM syndrome, which accorded with the criteria of combining diseases with syndrome,was made up of symptoms, signs, and objective indexes.The standard could be obtained by multi-center, prospective, random and controlled clinical epidemiological survey and clinical test.

On the Maximal Rank Conjecture for Line Bundles of Extremal Degree

Abstract: We propose a new method, using deformation theory, to study the maximal rank conjecture. For line bundles of extremal degree, which can be viewed as the first case to test the conjecture, we prove that maximal rank conjecture holds by our new method.
Some results on the generic vanishing of Koszul cohomology via deformation theory

Abstract: We study the deformation-obstruction theory of Koszul cohomology groups of $g^r_d$'s on singular nodal curves. We compute the obstruction classes for Koszul cohomology classes on singular curves to deform to a smooth one. In the case the obstructions are nontrivial, we obtain some partial results for generic vanishing of Koszul cohomology groups.

Abstract: We give a sufficient condition to study the vanishing of certain Koszul cohomology groups for general pairs $(X,L)\in W^r_{g,d}$ by induction. As an application, we show that to prove the Maximal Rank Conjecture (for quadrics), it suffices to check all cases with the Brill-Noether number $\rho=0$.
Deformations of pairs (X,L) when X is singular

Abstract: We give an elementary construction of the tangent-obstruction theory of the deformations of the pair $(X,L)$ with $X$ a reduced local complete intersection scheme and $L$ a line bundle on $X$. This generalizes the classical deformation theory of pairs in case $X$ is smooth. A criteria for sections of $L$ to extend is also given.

Abstract: Mint is a newly identified molecule that mediates signal transduction and modulates chromatin repression. Mint family members contain a highly conserved C-terminus SPOC domain (SpenParalog and OrthologsC-terminal domain) commonly associated with proliferation and related diseases (for example: cancer) due to its role in cell differentiation and apoptosis. In this study, we addressed the SPOC function using a tetracycline-inducible system to express the target domain in Ain V15 embryonic ES cells and bone marrow stem cells from SPOC transenic mice. In vitro differentiation of Ain V15 ES cells as a model of early hematopoietic development, we found expression of SPOC domain induces hematopoietic differentiation via up-regulation of transcription factors Bmp4 and Smad5, which induce the expression of hematopoietic factors Eklf1 and hematopoietic proliferation associated factor Gata2, the SPOC domain also plays the regulation function in the differentiation of hematopoitic progenitor by colony forming Unit (CFU) assays. Further, we determined SPOC expression enhances erythrocyte and granulocyte maturationusing bone marrow cells derived from tiSPOC chimeric mice. Finally, we identified that overexpression of full length Mint in ES cells drive Smad5 and Bmp4 up-regulation under culture conditions, and up-regulation of endogenous Mint when induceshematopoitic differentiation of EML, M1 and WT18 cells. In summary, our study reveals the conserved SPOC domain of Mint protein induces differentiation both in the stages of embryonic stem cells and hematopoietic progenitor cells.
