Journal of Cancer Therapy (JCT) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jct.2012.35070
Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the role of PET/CT with contrast enhanced CT in diagnosing and staging for pancreatic diseases and optimize the use of enhanced PET/CT as one-stop imaging modality. Methods: Fifty-six patients who presented with suspected pancreatic carcinoma underwent whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT and enhanced CT imaging. Images were interpreted and compared with the histopathology findings. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of enhanced CT, PET/CT and combined PET/CT with contrast enhanced CT diagnosis were analyzed. The vascular invasion and distant metastases of pancreatic lesions on different imaging modality were analyzed and compared. Results: Among the fifty-six patients evaluated for primary tumor, thirty-nine patients had malignant diseases and seventeen had benign lesions. Sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of enhanced CT were 87.5%, 75% and 83.9%, those of non-enhanced PET/CT were 89.7%, 88.2% and 89.2%, of PET/CT with enhanced CT were 100%, 94.1% and 98.2%. Combined PET/CT with enhanced CT had highest sensitivity, specificity and accuracy in diagnosing pancreatic carcinoma. Average SUVmax of malignant lesions was 6.72 ± 3.84, compared with 2.56 ± 1.22 for patients with benign disease (P < 0.01). Combined PET/CT with enhanced CT can help to make accurate staging especially in assessing metastases and vascular invasion. Seven patients deemed surgical candidates were changed to non-surgical treatment. SUVmax didn’t correlate with distant metastases and survival time (Pearson = –0.243, P = 0.136). Distant metastases correlate with survival time (Pearson = –0.447, P = 0.004). Conclusion: PET/CT with contrast enhanced CT is of greater value in the diagnosis of pancreatic lesions as well as preoperative staging especially in assessing vascular invasion and distant metastasis. It is feasible to perform one-stop shop imaging by combining PET/CT with enhanced CT, supplying more accurate assessment before operation and help to select optimal therapeutic plan.

Open Journal of Depression (OJD) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojd.2014.35022
Abstract: Objective: Both of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and estrogen can modulate emotion and cognition function in post-menopause women, moreover SSRIs can influence estrogen system in rats and aquatic wildlife but most of them for reproductive ability. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible relationship between SSRI, estrogen, and emotion and cognition in post-menopause women with anxiety and depressive symptoms .Methods: A double-blind, randomized controlled trials of Paroxetine, an SSRI (n = 44), versus placebo (n = 38) for 6 months in post-menopausal women with anxiety and depressive symptoms. For screening anxiety, depression and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), we use the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) and the Chinese Version of the Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA-CV). And sex hormones were measured by ELASE method which is serum estradiol (E2), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). Results: Paroxetine increased serum E2 and decreased LH, FSH significantly (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, HAM-A and HAM-D scores declined and MoCA-CV score raised by Paroxetine (P < 0.05). We also found that a negative association between E2 and scores of HAM-A and HAM-D at pre-treatment and post-treatment of Paroxetine (HAM-A: R = ?0.27, R = ?0.24; HAM-D: R = ?0.65, R = ?0.37), while a positive correlation between E2 and MoCA-CV scores (R = 0.52, R = 0.47). Conclusions: This founding suggests that SSRI can increase serum estrogen levels and the change of estrogen may be one of mechanism in SSRI’s improve emotion and cognitive function in post-menopausal women.

PLOS ONE , 2012, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0045144
Abstract: Background The gene encoding CD14 has been proposed as an IBD-susceptibility gene with its polymorphism C-260T being widely evaluated, yet with conflicting results. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between this polymorphism and IBD by conducting a meta-analysis. Methodology/Principal Findings Seventeen articles met the inclusion criteria, which included a total of 18 case-control studies, including 1900 ulcerative colitis (UC) cases, 2535 Crohn's disease (CD) cases, and 4004 controls. Data were analyzed using STATA software. Overall, association between C-260T polymorphism and increased UC risk was significant in allelic comparison (odds ratio [OR] = 1.21, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.02–1.43; P = 0.027), homozygote model (OR = 1.44, 95% CI: 1.03–2.01; P = 0.033), as well as dominant model (OR = 1.36, 95% CI: 1.06–1.75; P = 0.016). However, there was negative association between this polymorphism and CD risk across all genetic models. Subgroup analyses by ethnicity suggested the risk-conferring profiles of -260T allele and -260 TT genotype with UC in Asians, but not in Caucasians. There was a low probability of publication bias. Conclusions/Significance Expanding previous results of individual studies, our findings demonstrated that CD14 gene C-260T polymorphism might be a promising candidate marker in susceptibility to UC, especially in Asians.

Linjia Sun, Min Liu, Jiajia Hu, Xiaohui Liang
PLOS ONE , 2014, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0100987
Abstract: This paper proposes a Chinese character teaching system by using the Chinese character structure theory and the 2D contour morphing technology. This system, including the offline phase and the online phase, automatically generates animation for the same Chinese character from different writing stages to intuitively show the evolution of shape and topology in the process of Chinese characters teaching. The offline phase builds the component models database for the same script and the components correspondence database for different scripts. Given two or several different scripts of the same Chinese character, the online phase firstly divides the Chinese characters into components by using the process of Chinese character parsing, and then generates the evolution animation by using the process of Chinese character morphing. Finally, two writing stages of Chinese characters, i.e., seal script and clerical script, are used in experiment to show the ability of the system. The result of the user experience study shows that the system can successfully guide students to improve the learning of Chinese characters. And the users agree that the system is interesting and can motivate them to learn.

Abstract: Objective Emergence agitation (EA) is a common complication in children under sevoflurane anesthesia. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects of intravenous dexmedetomidine on EA in children under sevoflurane anesthesia. Methods A comprehensive literature search was conducted to identify clinical trials that evaluated the effects of intravenous dexmedetomidine and placebo on EA in children under sevoflurane anesthesia. The search collected trials from MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Embase, and Web of Science. Analysis was conducted using STATA version 12.0. Data from each trial were pooled using relative ratio (RR) for dichotomous data or weighted mean difference (WMD) for continuous data and corresponding 95% confidence interval (95% CI). Heterogeneity assessment, sensitivity analysis, and publication bias were performed. Results Twelve trials, in which 459 patients received dexmedetomidine and 353 patients received placebo, were included in this analysis. We found that intravenous dexmedetomidine decreased the incidences of EA (RR = 0.346, 95% CI 0.263 to 0.453, P<0.001), and postoperative pain (RR = 0.405, 95% CI 0.253 to 0.649, P<0.001). Intravenous dexmedetomidine also prolonged extubation time (WMD = 0.617, 95% CI 0.276 to 958, P<0.001), and emergence time (WMD = 0.997, 95% CI 0.392 to 1.561, P = 0.001). Further evidences are required to evaluate the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). Sensitivity analysis strengthened evidences for lower incidences of EA, pain, and prolonged extubation time, and emergence time. Funnel plots did not detect any significant publication bias. Conclusion Meta-analysis demonstrated that dexmedetomidine decreased the incidence of EA in children under sevoflurane anesthesia.

Journal of Geographic Information System (JGIS) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/jgis.2010.22019
Abstract: In the Second Chinese Country Survey, MAPGIS (Map Geographic Information System) is widely used all over the country in the Cadastral Database Construction. There are plenty original data is saved in the AutoCAD (Auto Computer Aided Design) data format. Therefore it is important to find a way which can exchange and share the data between AutoCAD and MAPGIS effectively and efficiently. In order to use MapGIS cadastral management system building cadastral database, it researched the current transformation methods between data of MapGIS and AutoCAD, including analysis defects of ObjectARX technology, southern CASS conversion interface, DXF file conversion. Combining the characteristics of MAPSUV data and southern CASS data, it found a data conversion method through the DWGdirectX control. This method actually read and wrote files provided by the library of MAPSUV and AutoCAD. This way avoids exchange process which can better transform the southern CASS DWG file containing graphics and attributes information to the SUV. The example which showed how DWG file transformed into SUV file. It improves the effectiveness and efficiency of conversion.

Advances in Pure Mathematics (APM) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/apm.2013.39A1003

In a Euclidean space Rd, the Lebesgue-Stieltjes integral of set-valued stochastic processes \"\" with respect to real valued finite variation process \"\" is defined directly by employing all integrably bounded selections instead of taking the decomposable closure appearing in some existed references. We shall show that this kind of integral is measurable, continuous in t under the Hausdorff metric and L2-bounded.

PLOS ONE , 2012, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0045965
Abstract: MiR-145 could regulate tumor growth, apoptosis, migration, and invasion. In our present study, we investigated its role in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Expression of miR-145 was decreased in breast tumor tissues at T3&4 stages in comparison with those at T1&2. Over-expression of miR-145 mimics enhanced protein levels of E-cadherin and dampened those of α-SMA and Fibronectin, indicative of its inhibitory role in EMT occurrence. Mechanistic studies showed that miR-145 mimics inhibited Oct4 expression and miR-145 inhibitor enhanced it. Over-expression of Oct4 reversed miR-145-regulated expression of EMT markers, suggesting that Oct4 mediated the inhibitory effects of miR-145. MiR-145 could inhibite the expression of Snail, ZEB1, and ZEB2, while over-expression of Oct4 rescued the effects. Furthermore, Oct-4 induced over-expression of transcription factor Snail, ZEB1 and ZEB2 was mediated by β-catenin. Expression of Slug and Twist were not altered by miR-145/Oct4. Taken together, our results have revealed a novel role of miR-145 on EMT. It inhibits EMT by blocking the expression of Oct4, and downstream transcriptional factors, Snail, ZEB1 and ZEB2.

Chinese Science Bulletin , 2009, DOI: 10.1007/s11434-008-0584-y
Abstract: The laminar burning velocities and Markstein lengths of the hydrogen-air-diluent mixtures were measured at different equivalence ratios (0.4–1.5), different diluents (N2, CO2 and 15%CO2+85%N2) and dilution ratios (0, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15) by using the outwardly expanding flame. The influences of flame stretch rate on the flame propagation characteristics were analyzed. The results show that both the laminar burning velocities and the Markstein lengths of the hydrogen-air-diluent mixtures decrease with the increase of dilution ratio. The decrease in Markstein lengths means that adding diluents into the hydrogen-air mixtures will decrease the diffusional-thermal instability of the flame front. For a specified dilution ratio, the laminar burning velocities give their maximum values at an equivalence ratio of 1.8. The Markstein lengths increase with the increase of the equivalence ratio monotonously regardless of the diluents. The study shows that CO2 as the diluent has a greater impact on the laminar flame speed and the flame front stability than N2 as the diluent.
