The Synergistic Effects Study of C-myc and C-erbB-2 in the Carcinogenesis of Gastric Carcinoma  [PDF]

Abstract: Objective: To study the significance of c-myc and c-erbB-2 oncogene expression in gastric cancer. Methods: 81 gastric cancer specimens were detected for c-myc and c-erbB-2 oncogene amplification using non-radioactive in situ hybridization method. Results: The amplification rates for c-myc and c-erbB-2 were 67.9% and 50.6% respectively, and there were significant correlation in the amplification of these two genes (χ2 = 7.26, P < 0.01). Conclusions: The amplification of c-myc and c-erbB-2 may play an important role in gastric cancer development, and these two genes may have synergistic effect.

Abstract: microRNAs, a class of small non-coding regulatory RNAs, are involved in oncogenesis and cancer development. Studies have shown that aberrant miRNA expression occurs in breast cancer and is associated with specific clinicopathological features. Some miRNAs might act as suppressor genes or oncogenes, which can be considered as novel markers for breast cancer diagnosis and as prognostic factors. Here we present a review of recent discoveries on miRNAs involved in breast cancer tumorigenesis, invasion, and metastasis.
A Text Image Segmentation Method Based on Spectral Clustering

Abstract: We present a novel approach for solving the text segmentation problem in natural scene images. The proposed algorithm uses the normalized graph cut(Ncut) as the measure for spectral clustering, and the weighted matrices used in evaluating the graph cuts are based on the gray levels of an image, rather than the commonly used image pixels. Thus, the proposed algorithm requires much smaller spatial costs and much lower computation complexity. Experiments show the superior performance of the proposed method compared to the typical thresholding algorithms.

The teaching strategy plays an important part in the effectiveness of the college English teaching. After comparing the current college English teaching strategies in China, this paper attempts to analyze the process teaching strategies and the cognitive teaching strategies of the novice, the proficient and the expert college English teachers at different teaching stages of teaching and proposes the optimizing path of the teaching strategies. This helps make up for the lack of research of enhancing the college English teaching strategies inChina.

Abstract: The match of teaching and learning styles plays an important part in the research of second language acquisition in tertiary education. This paper analyzes the connotation and the research perspectives of the match of teaching and learning styles in tertiary learners’ second language acquisition, introduces a new measuring indicator: a compatible teaching style, and proposes its achieving methods: 1) initiating a student-centered teaching style, 2) developing a proper learning style, and 3) adjusting the match of teaching and learning styles.

Next-Generation Sequencing of MicroRNAs for Breast Cancer Detection

Abstract: It is reported that different microRNA (miRNA) profiles can be detected in the blood of cancer patients. We investigated that whether the key serum miRNAs could discriminate patients with and without breast cancer. This study was divided into three parts: (1) miRNA marker discovery using SOLiD sequencing-based miRNA profiling on cancerous and adjacent noncancerous breast tissue of one breast cancer patient; (2) marker selection and validation by real-time PCR on a small set of serum; (3) gene ontology analysis of the key miRNA target genes. Of genome-wide tissue miRNA expression analysis, five miRNAs were found to be altered more than fivefold by SOLiD sequencing (i.e., miR-29a, miR-23a, miR-23b, miR-192, and miR-21). All the five miRNAs were validated on the 20 breast cancer patients and 20 controls. miR-29a and miR-21 were significantly increased in the serum of breast cancer patients (<.05). Gene ontology analysis of the target genes revealed enrichment for special biological process categories, that is, signal transduction, development, apoptosis, cell proliferation, and cell adhesion. SOLiD sequencing provides a promising method for cancer-related miRNA profiling. Serum miRNAs may be useful biomarkers for breast cancer detection.
Statistical Recognition Method of Binary BCH Code  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper, a statistical recognition method of the binary BCH code is proposed. The method is applied to both primitive and non-primitive binary BCH code. The block length is first recognized based on the cyclic feature under the condition of the frame length known. And then candidate polynomials are achieved which meet the restrictions. Among the candidate polynomials, the most optimal polynomial is selected based on the minimum rule of the weights sum of the syndromes. Finally, the best polynomial was factorized to get the generator polynomial recognized. Simulation results show that the method has strong capability of anti-random bit error. Besides, the algorithm proposed is very simple, so it is very practical for hardware im-plementation.

Abstract: In the title compound, [PdBr2(C20H17N3)2]·2CH3CN, the Pd atom, which lies on an inversion center, is four-coordinated in a square-planar geometry. The two imidazole rings are coplanar and nearly perpendicular to the plane formed by Pd, the coordinated imidazole C atom and one of the Br atoms, making a dihedral angle of 75.1 (2)°.
