Journal of Tuberculosis Research (JTR) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jtr.2017.51004
Abstract: Introduction: To participate effectively in the fight against tuberculosis (TB), mothers need to have a good knowledge of TB and its prevention. The objective of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of mothers about TB and Bacillus Calmette Guérin (BCG). Methods: This was a cross-sectional survey performed from September to December 2015 in 4 health care facilities of Kinshasa. It concerned mothers of children who received BCG vaccine. The frequencies and chi-square of Pearson were used to report results. Results: A total of 380 couples of the children and their mothers were recruited. The median age of children was 16 months (ranges: 6 days to 59 months); 224 (58.9%) of them received BCG during the period recommended; 62 (16.3%) experienced a side effect. There was a significant association (p = 0.00) between sides effects and the delayed vaccination. The average age of the mothers was 29.3 ± 6.4 years; 352 (92.6%) had heard about TB; 28 (7.4%) never heard about it; 168 (44.2%) knew that TB is a contagious disease; only 111 (29.2%) knew the mode of transmission; 87 (22.9%) did not know any signs of TB, and 54 (14.2%) knew about prevention with the BCG vaccine. Factors significantly associated with the mothers’ lack of knowledge were a low level of education (p = 0.01), young age (p = 0.02), and place of residence (p = 0.04). Conclusion: There is an urgent need to improve the education of the population, particularly those who lives in poor conditions and who are uneducated.

Journal of Tuberculosis Research (JTR) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jtr.2017.54026
Abstract: Context: The burden of TB in Africa tends to be exacerbated by the socio-economic situation and the high prevalence of intercurrent infections such as HIV, malaria and non-specific bacterial infections. These factors often result in anemia, making patients at high risk for anemia. Objective: We aimed to gain insights into the characteristics of anemia, hematologic variations and socio-economic status in untreated pulmonary TB patients (PTB) in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 200 smear-positive pulmonary TB patients (PTB) recruited at the initiation of TB treatment. Complete Blood Count, Iron profile, BMI, CRP and albuminemia were assessed. Data were analyzed using Student t or Mann Whitney tests as appropriate, and logistic regression was performed to assess the strength of associations. Results: Anemia was a regular finding in (69%). This anemia was mostly moderate (92.2%) and with iron deficiency pattern (48%). Hypoalbuminemia was observed in half of the subjects and appears to be correlated with the severity of anemia. Surprisingly, the severity of inflammation, as reflected by the CRP, was inversely correlated with the anemia. In the multivariate analysis, alcohol intake (OR: 2.38; IC 95%: 1.05 - 5.38), hypoalbuminemia (OR: 1.98; IC 95%: 1.02 - 3.82) and CRP rate were significantly associated with the presence of anemia among pulmonary tuberculosis at the diagnostic. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the heavy burden of the iron responsive anemia and risky life conditions in newly diagnosed TB patients, and underscores the potential usefulness of iron supplementation in the Congolese context.
Design of Printed Dipole Array for Omnidirectional Radiation Pattern  [PDF]
Jean-Marie Floc’h
Wireless Engineering and Technology (WET) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/wet.2019.102002
Abstract: In this paper, we describe 2 kinds of printed dipole arrays and compare the performances of these arrays in term of reflexion coefficient, radiation pattern and dimensions. It is interesting to design array in order to obtain better performances in term of omnidirectional radiation pattern in comparison with single element. We choose this elementary source in order to obtain compact array with good performances. These antenna arrays are designed to have omnidirectional radiation pattern with horizontal polarization. We present an application dedicated to compact base station in the last section.
Clustering of the Values of a Response Variable and Simultaneous Covariate Selection Using a Stepwise Algorithm  [PDF]
Olivier Collignon, Jean-Marie Monnez
Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/am.2016.715141
Abstract: In supervised learning the number of values of a response variable can be very high. Grouping these values in a few clusters can be useful to perform accurate supervised classification analyses. On the other hand selecting relevant covariates is a crucial step to build robust and efficient prediction models. We propose in this paper an algorithm that simultaneously groups the values of a response variable into a limited number of clusters and selects stepwise the best covariates that discriminate this clustering. These objectives are achieved by alternate optimization of a user-defined model selection criterion. This process extends a former version of the algorithm to a more general framework. Moreover possible further developments are discussed in detail.
Long-Term Depression in the Hippocampal CA1 Area of Aged Rats, Revisited: Contribution of Temporal Constraints Related to Slice Preparation
Jean-marie Billard
PLOS ONE , 2012, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0009843
Abstract: The effects of low-frequency conditioning stimulation (LFS, 900 pulses at 1 Hz) of glutamatergic afferents in CA1 hippocampal area using slices from two different strains of adult (3–5 month-old) and aged (23–27 month-old) rats were reinvestigated regarding the discrepancies in the literature concerning the expression of long-term depression (LTD) in the aging brain.
Les chiens s?approchent, et s?éloignent
Gleize, Jean-Marie;
Alea : Estudos Neolatinos , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-106X2007000200002
Abstract: the paper proposes a rereading of the tension between poetry and prose in baudelaire, taking as its starting point the opposition between "cats" and "dogs", recurring characters in the poet?s work. with/ against baudelaire, the author argues for an affirmation of prose - "prose in prose(s)" - and the rejection, in contemporary poetry, of any instances of the "modern sublime".
Desarrollo del derecho internacional humanitario y la continua pertinencia de la costumbre
Henckaerts, Jean-Marie;
Anuario mexicano de derecho internacional , 2010,
Abstract: treaties have been widely regarded as the main source of international law, nevertheless, historically; custom has often had certain precedence over conventions. this article presents an analysis about the importance of customary international law in the matter of humanitarian law. mostly based on the study performed by the international committee of the red cross, this work achieves a deep exploration through customary humanitarian international law and its roll in fulfilling the vacuums and avoiding the obstacles of conventional humanitarian law effectiveness.
Representa??es sociais e culturas de a??o
Barvier, Jean-Marie;
Cadernos de Pesquisa , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-15742010000200004
Abstract: sustained by findings in the professional world and, in particular, in the world of education and training the author proposes the concept of action culture as a shared way of organizing the construction of the meaning of activities. this transversal concept of the different forms of action seeks to unite individual and collective aspects, what remains and what changes and the mental and conative aspects in the approach to involvement with action. the concept is inscribed within the broader frame of the creation of tools that are capable of describing the simultaneous construction of the actions of individuals and groups.
Significa??o religiosa do sofrimento e posi??o psicológica na fé

Abstract: the psychological bond between the existencial experience of suffering and the position of the subject in relation to religious faith are studied. the investigation comprised 80 nurses, from both sexes, with various degrees of adherence to christianism. the hypothesis was that these persons are impelled to structure for themselves a more or less stable, conscious or reflected attitude towards suffering. a questionnaire was elaborated including a question concerning suffering (dimensions, psychological aprehension, meaning), a question about the religious position (central or peripheric, certain or hesitant) and a question concerning the atribution of religious conotations to suffering. results do not allow one to enunciate a homogeneous theory on the relation between religion and suffering, but the existence of singular configurations more or less stable and evolving, according to the religious attitude basic orientation, the merely human context of suffering and the religious contextualization of suffering.
Legami curati – Legami curanti "Cliniche della Concertazione" e violenze di quartiere / Liens soignés, liens soignant. Cliniques de Concertation et violences de quartiers

Rivista di Criminologia, Vittimologia e Sicurezza , 2007,
Abstract: Mahdi is twenty-six years old, he is tall and athletic. He is blind, because he was attacked. This kind of situation puts at work a complex network of professionals of help, care, education and control, beyond everything they can expect. The methodology of the Clinic of Concertation , as a Laboratory of applied communicational ethics , recognises that Mahdi and the members of his family are directly part of this network. If the professionals do not resist to this collective construction, they will see laying out different relational systems in balance from which they can exploit the resources in the process of reconstructive links. More than a narrative device, the "Clinic of Concertation" is a creative therapeutic device governed by random rules beyond an absolute mastery. It is, in a collective discussion that does not exclude any member of the collective, but on the contrary, that promotes every extensive step, about differentiating without dissociating, with all interested persons, what will belong to the private sphere and what will belong to the public sphere, while recognizing the legitimacy of the compensatory dynamics of revenge and the protective dynamics of future generations, by identifying their joints, their compatibilities and their incompatibilities, by developing preferentially those reconstructive and preventive.
