Aparicio, Javier;
Política y gobierno , 2009,
Abstract: this paper tests some of the main fraud allegations of the 2006 presidential election in mexico with the evidence from a statistical analysis of precinct-level data. first, i analyze the data flow from the quick count, the preliminary results (prep) and the official district tally (cómputo distrital). secondly, i analyze the size and distribution of errors in the polling-station acts and the partial recount. lastly, i consider atypical precincts and the role of party representatives. my main conclusion is that, since most fraud allegations are not supported by the evidence, the presidential election outcome is statistically reliable.

Abstract: the article presents a model for action against the risk factors derived from psychosocial stress. the first lists the main effects on any organization that causes stress at work. at the same time establishing their priorities for action, then to indicate the activities to be implemented. within this stage of action, unlike those that are directed to the organization of a collective, whose priority is obvious, compared to shares to be offered to the affected individual. thus, it is an intervention model that interacts both in general and organizational measures in those specific and individual profile in the struggle of a growing phenomenon as is the stress at work.

The article presents a model for action against the risk factors derived from psychosocial stress.
Morillo, Fernanda,Aparicio, Javier
Revista Espa?ola de Documentación Científica , 2011,
Abstract: The objective of this work is the study of the characteristics and disparities among the existing sub-specialities within interdisciplinary categories, putting forward the need to identify and assess each one separately. The Web of Science (WoS) databases were examined for the years 2003-2006, in order to explore the possible differences between biotechnology research teams in Madrid according to their specialization profile. This Spanish region has the highest output in biotechnology (27%), a category that interacts with other disciplines, such as microbiology, biochemistry and food science. For this reason, the study of teams includes, in a second analysis, not just the documents in this category, but also publications of the team leaders, regardless of their discipline. With these data, the influence of the specialization on the teams’ characteristics, collaboration patterns and impact is discussed. Three typologies are identified according to subspecialities: a) CORE teams (publishing 50% or more in biotechnology); b) BASIC teams (publishing in biochemistry and other basic disciplines); and c) MEDIUM teams (publishing in food science and other less basic disciplines). By means of statistical tests, significant differences in output and impact were found among them. The article concludes that these disparities should be taken into account when assessing categories of interdisciplinary research such as biotechnology.

Arbor : Ciencia, Pensamiento y Cultura , 2002,
Márquez, Javier;Aparicio, Francisco Javier;
Política y gobierno , 2010,
Abstract: the extant literature on the mexican political system is often interested in analyzing the effect of electoral reforms, or some other contextual factor, on the political configuration of the chamber of deputies. from an empirical point of view, statistical estimation of such effects is a cumbersome task that requires some programming skills. in this research note we seek to contribute to the study of the mexican electoral system and the congress in two ways. first, we introduce a statistical model to analyze the composition of seats of the mexican chamber. second, we facilitate the implementation of this model with the software camaradip, a stata module developed by the authors that allows for the estimation of quantities of interest regarding the chamber via monte carlo simulations. to illustrate the applicability of our model, we evaluate the hypotethical impact of two electoral reforms: the effect of making all local and federal elections concurrent, and the reduction of the number of proportional representation seats.
Holographic Evolution of Entanglement Entropy

Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1007/JHEP11(2010)149
Abstract: We study the evolution of entanglement entropy in a 2-dimensional equilibration process that has a holographic description in terms of a Vaidya geometry. It models a unitary evolution in which the field theory starts in a pure state, its vacuum, and undergoes a perturbation that brings it far from equilibrium. The entanglement entropy in this set up provides a measurement of the quantum entanglement in the system. Using holographic techniques we recover the same result obtained before from the study of processes triggered by a sudden change in a parameter of the hamiltonian, known as quantum quenches. Namely, entanglement in 2-dimensional conformal field theories propagates with velocity v^2=1. Both in quantum quenches and in the Vaidya model equilibration is only achieved at the local level. Remarkably, the holographic derivation of this last fact requires information from behind the apparent horizon generated in the process of gravitational collapse described by the Vaidya geometry. In the early stages of the evolution the apparent horizon seems however to play no relevant role with regard to the entanglement entropy. We speculate on the possibility of deriving a thermalization time for occupation numbers from our analysis.

A Systematic Computational Study on Flavonoids
Santiago Aparicio
International Journal of Molecular Sciences , 2010, DOI: 10.3390/ijms11052017
Abstract: 17 selected flavones derivatives, flavonoids, were analyzed through a systematic B3LYP∕6-311++G** computational study with the aim of understanding the molecular factors that determine their structural and energetic properties in gas phase. Flavonoids were selected in a systematic way to infer the effect of the number and relative positions of hydroxyl groups on molecular properties. Different conformers for each flavonoid were analyzed and the strength and topology of the intramolecular hydrogen bonds studied through the computation of the corresponding torsional profiles. Atoms in a Molecule, and Natural Bond Orbital methodology was applied to the analysis of charge distribution along the studied molecules, and the intramolecular hydrogen bonds. Molecular shapes were studied through full geometry optimization, and the position of the catechol ring analyzed through dihedral scans.
Aparicio,Miriam;
Interdisciplinaria , 2005,
Abstract: this study tests hypotheses included in the psycho-sociocommunicational paradigm, which emphasizes the long term cognitive effects of the media and the role of the psychosocial subject as recipient: the hypothesis of agenda-setting. the primary objectives were: (1) to elucidate such effects in audiences with different levels of education, (2) to detect levels of manipulation and homogenization of the mental maps linked with the centralization of the fourth power, to ascertain personality factors which condition differential receptivity of the addresses (filter of the news) related to the socio-evaluative context. two lines interest us: the first emphasizes the effects of the media according to individual psychology, and the second, centered on different parameters linked with psychosocial characteristics of the youths and the messages. finally, the central hypotheses are offered, taking into account that forty nine were considered: (a) there would be a marked correlation between the order of importance assigned to the information by the media and the one adopted by youths (high incidence of mental construing), (b) receptivity of the addresses would vary according to cognitive competence and (c) certain psychological characteristics would render the subject less impressionable to media influence. the sample was made up of graduates (n = 516) and drop-outs from eighteen careers in universidad nacional de cuyo (argentina) between 1980-1993. the sampling was stratified and of random start, confidence interval was taken at 95% and error margin at 4%. quanti-qualitative techniques were complemented: semistructured survey, indepth interviews, life stories and anecdote accounts. also, tests were applied in order to observe the behavior of certain psychosocial variables (such as locus of control, stress, aggressiveness, self-esteem). some of these tests (e.g. cep, j.l. pinillos, maudsley's inventory, j. eysenck) have been validated in argentina by the author. the analysis wa
