Revista Brasileira de Fruticultura , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-29452004000300037
Abstract: this research studied the effect of pyroligneous acid (pa) presence in the micronutrient solution sprayed on leaves on the foliar nutrient content of 'rangpur lime' (citrus limonia osbeck0) seedlings, under screen house. an experiment in a randomized complete block design with six treatments and four replicates was set up. treatments consisted of leaf spraying with the following solutions: t0 = water; t1 = micronutrients solution without pa; t2 = micronutrients solution+ pa (1 cm3 dm-3); t3 = micronutrients solution + pa (2 cm3 dm-3); t4 = micronutrients solution + pa (5 cm3 dm-3); t5 = micronutrients solution + pa (10 cm3 dm-3). the micronutrient solutions were prepared by using sulphates of cu, fe, mn and zn (250 mg dm-3 of the elements), and boric acid (42.5 mg dm-3 of b). the experiment was set up on 0.280 dm3 conical containers, in growing media with no addition of micronutrients. the solutions were sprayed once, at 140 days after planting (dap), when the plants were about 20 cm high. at the end of the experiment (160 dap), dry mass of plants and concentrations of nutrients of aerial part and root system were evaluated. the presence of pyroligneous acid in the spraying solution did not affect b, fe and zn concentration in the leaves. however, increased cu and mn concentration for treatments containing pa at 10 cm3 dm-3 in the micronutrients solution. it was also observed that plants sprayed with solutions of pa (1 to 10 cm3 dm-3) + micronutrients showed lower fe and higher ca concentration on the root system.

Abstract: introduction: the selection of the surgical approach to the mitral valve is a critical factor in obtaining good exposure and minimizing lesions of the surrounding structures. the classical right lateral subseptal access may sometimes provide difficult exposure, so that alternative approaches are used whose effects on atrial electrical activity are contradictory. objective:to standardize an investigative method to evaluate heart electrical activity post-op. methods: ten consecutive adult patients with mitral valve disease were operated on. surface electrocardiogram and continuous electrocardiographic monitoring (holter system) pre and post-op., and epicardical cardioestimulation post-op. were used to study cardiac electric activity. results: there was no mortality. all patients with sinus rhythm presented supraventricular ectopia, with episodes of supraventricular tachycardia in 57%, atrial flutter in 10%, and junctional rhythm in 10%. all patients presented ventricular ectopia, with a low incidence in 70% of them and with unsustained ventricular tachycardia in 30%. during the postoperative period there was a 40% rate of new supraventricular arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation, junctional rhythm, low atrial rhythm, and paroxistic supraventricular tachycardia), with no ventricular arrhythmias. post-op. sinus node function was preserved. there was a significant reduction of supraventricular ectopia, with reversal of atrial fibrillation to sinus rhythm in one patient. although there was a significant reduction in left atrium size post-op, p wave duration, as well as ventricular ectopia rate remained unchanged. interatrial conduction time correlated with left atrium size measured pre and post-op. conclusion: the methods proved useful to evaluate atrial electric activity in patients operated upon by the classic subseptal access, thus permitting future comparisons with other surgical approaches to the mitral valve.
Modelo causal dos primórdios da ciência do magnetismo
Pessoa Júnior, Osvaldo;
Scientiae Studia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-31662010000200003
Abstract: this article presents a brief history of the beginning of the science of magnetism, which took place independently in three different continents. the methodology of causal models in the history of science is applied to represent these independent paths, where the notion of "developmental bottleneck" appears. special attention is given to the definition of "generalized advances", which encompass different species of advances and simplify the causal diagrams. the historical survey covers the advances in magnetism in china and europe until 1600.

Abstract: this article describes and analyzes the case of a brazilian telecommunications company, gtv, in the application of information technology resources to support the integration of its business processes, particularly those related to its operation. the case study involves the planning, developmental and operational phases of a solution for integrating information systems (is) environments by means of an integration layer that incorporates a data message management system. the solution in question integrates iss and coordinates the automatic sequencing and sending of messages, thereby meeting the operational requirements of the business processes. in this broader context, this solution is called business process integration (bpi). this paper adds value by describing and analyzing one of the few significant brazilian experiences in bpi implementation. by significant we mean a real corporate case, i.e., one that has integrated a variety of complex and critical iss into the business, and whose implementation occurred two years ago, allowing sufficient time for more consistent analyses.
