Análise epidemiológica e emprego do teste rápido da urease em pacientes com úlcera péptica perfurada

Abstract: objective: to analyze the epidemiological profile of patients with gastroduodenal ulcer perforation and verify if the presence of h. pylori in the peritoneal and intraluminal secretions of these patients can be assessed by rapid urease test. methods: we conducted a prospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study with data from patients in a hospital at a regional level, in patients with peptic ulcer. during surgery, we collected peritoneal fluid samples (in the vicinity of the perforation) and intraluminal secretion, sending them for culture and rapid urease test. results: fourteen patients were analyzed. the average age was 41.06 years, all men, whites (71.4%), smokers (57.2%), bmi <30 (85.7%), with a history of dyspepsia (78.6%). serology for h. pylori was positive in 84.6% of cases. the rapid urease test was positive in 78.6% of the samples of the digestive tract and 42.8% of samples from the peritoneal cavity; 41.6% were positive at both sites, 50% only in the digestive cavity and 8.4% only in the peritoneal cavity. of the 11 patients with positive serology for h. pylori, 100% were positive in at least one of the sites surveyed. conclusion: it was found that the incidence was lower than expected. there is significant association between infection with h. pylori and the occurrence of perforation. the presence of this pathogen can be assessed both by serology and by the realization of the rapid urease test from fluid collected in the peritoneal cavity and the gastric / duodenal lumen.
Testes de germina o in vitro e armazenamento de pólen de pitangueira (Eugenia uniflora L.) = In vitro germination and storage of Surinam cherry pollen (Eugenia uniflora L.)

Abstract: O objetivo do presente trabalho foi verificar qual o meio de cultura e quais as condi es que deveriam ser utilizadas em testes de germina o in vitro do pólen de pitangueira (Eugenia uniflora), bem como verificar a possibilidade de armazenamento em freezer (-18°C). O pólen foi coletado de flores em estádio de bal o e logo após a antese, em duas popula es desta espécie, na Embrapa Clima Temperado, em Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul. Os meios de cultura testados foram o padr o (testemunha) (10% de a úcar e 1% de ágar em água destilada) e este acrescido de duas concentra es de H3BO3 (0,65 mM e 1,3 mM).Foram testadas as temperaturas de incuba o de 20, 25 e 30oC. Cinco horas a 25°C, em meio de cultura básico, proporcionou as melhores médias de germina o in vitro. O boro n o influenciou a germina o média de pólen de pitangueira. O pólen apresentou grande perda de viabilidade após 105 dias de armazenamento em freezer. The objective of the present work was to check the best medium andconditions for in vitro germination of pollen of Surinam cherry (Eugenia uniflora). Possibility of storage in freezer was also studied. The pollen was collected from flowers at balloon stageand immediately after anthesis in two populations of this species at Embrapa Clima Temperado Research Center, Pelotas, of state Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil. The tested media were the standard (10% sugar, plus 1% agar dissolved in distilled water), and the addition of two H3BO3 concentrations (0.65 mM and 1.3 mM) to this medium. Incubationtemperatures of 20, 25 and 30oC were tested. The best germination percentage was achieved after five hours incubating at 25°C. Boron did not influence the pollen germination of Surinam cherry. The pollen lost viability after 105 days of storage in freezer.

Abstract: this work had as its major aim the hydroponic production of strawberries with the cooling of the nutrient solution, in jaboticabal - sp - brazil. the experiment was conducted in a covered greenhouse with a plastic film and seed transplantation achieved on january 9, 2002. two varieties of strawberries were evaluated: campinas and sweet charlie, both cultivated under the hydroponic system nft type with or without cooling the nutrient solution. the cooling of the nutrient solution at about 12 °c was in a heating exchange device. the sweet charlie variety presented the best results for both the average weight and number of pseudofruit, longitudinal average diameter, cross average diameter, average number of pseudofruit and productivity. the cooling of the nutrient solution confered greater number of pseudofruit collected and better productivity of sweet charlie variety. however, the cooling of the nutrient solution didn't cause any effects over the campinas variety.

Abstract: the use of biological reactor effluent in fertigation and use of dry swine waste as a component of the substrate, would lower the cost of production and prevent discarding residues in the environment. based on that, the objective of this research was to evaluate both yield and quality of pepper fruits, adopting the factorial scheme 4 x 3 in randomized blocks, with 4 substrates (s1, s2, s3 e s4) and 3 nutrient solutions: mineral nutrient solution (sn1), nutrient solution as based on biological reactor effluent boosted with mineral fertilizers (sn2) and nutrient solution based on biological reactor effluent (sn3). the different mixtures that yielded different substrate could be recommended for both fruit and quality production perspectives, except substrate 1 (s1), which revealed inferior quality of fruits. the use of sn1 permitted greater weight of the fruits, thickness of the pulp and productivity. partial substitution of fertilizers by biodigestor effluent of swine waste (sn2) was not sufficient to promote productivity equivalent to 100% mineral nutrient solution, however it reached mean index of productivity with standards of quality of fruits equivalent to the mineral solution (sn1). this supports the conclusion that the use of the biological reactor effluent would be an alternative in potential to reduce the cost of production of pepper crop and to prevent the discarding of this material, still rich in nutrients, into the environment.

Abstract: blossom dates for 41 peaches and nectarines accesses from the active gene bank (bag) of stone fruits were evaluated at cap?o bonito (sp), brazil. observations of flowering date (70% of opened flowers) were taken and compared to the chilling hour's requirement (nhf) considering 7.2 and 13oc. the nhf was estimated using multiple regression equations based on maximum and minimum temperature. the accesses from the bag were separated by cluster analysis into four groups for peaches and three for nectarines by cluster analysis. the following peaches accesses: iac 2485-6, iac 680-13 and régis and for nectarine: iac n 785- 9 showed flowering date before july 10th with nhf less than 40 and 500, below 7.2 and 13oc, respectively. the peach cultivars eldorado, diamante, arlequim, bol?o, and marli showed blossom dates after august 1st, requiring more than 70 and 650 nhf bellow 7.2 and 13oc, respectively. the main peach cultivars for s?o paulo state like: aurora-1, dourad?o and dourado-1, flowered from july 11 to 20 with nhf from 41 to 50 bellow 7.2oc and from 501 to 560 bellow 13oc.

Abstract: this research studied the effect of pyroligneous acid (pa) presence in the micronutrient solution sprayed on leaves on the foliar nutrient content of 'rangpur lime' (citrus limonia osbeck0) seedlings, under screen house. an experiment in a randomized complete block design with six treatments and four replicates was set up. treatments consisted of leaf spraying with the following solutions: t0 = water; t1 = micronutrients solution without pa; t2 = micronutrients solution+ pa (1 cm3 dm-3); t3 = micronutrients solution + pa (2 cm3 dm-3); t4 = micronutrients solution + pa (5 cm3 dm-3); t5 = micronutrients solution + pa (10 cm3 dm-3). the micronutrient solutions were prepared by using sulphates of cu, fe, mn and zn (250 mg dm-3 of the elements), and boric acid (42.5 mg dm-3 of b). the experiment was set up on 0.280 dm3 conical containers, in growing media with no addition of micronutrients. the solutions were sprayed once, at 140 days after planting (dap), when the plants were about 20 cm high. at the end of the experiment (160 dap), dry mass of plants and concentrations of nutrients of aerial part and root system were evaluated. the presence of pyroligneous acid in the spraying solution did not affect b, fe and zn concentration in the leaves. however, increased cu and mn concentration for treatments containing pa at 10 cm3 dm-3 in the micronutrients solution. it was also observed that plants sprayed with solutions of pa (1 to 10 cm3 dm-3) + micronutrients showed lower fe and higher ca concentration on the root system.

Abstract: the effect of finely grounded charcoal and pyroligneous acid (pa) in mixture with a commercial growing media and pa sprayed on leaves on growth of rangpur lime (citrus limonia osbeck) seedlings under screen house was studied. treatments consisted in a combination of 3 levels of charcoal (0, 100 and 200 cm3 dm-3) mixture on the commercial growing media, 2 rates of pa mixtured (0 and 20 cm3 dm-3) to a growing media (240 cm3 per dm3 of growing media), and 3 rates of pa (0, 5 and 10 cm3 dm-3) sprayed on the leaves, with 4 replications. the experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design, and analyzed as a factorial 3 x 2 x 3. growth of seedlings was evaluated at 150 and 180 days after planting. the presence of charcoal at 100 cm3 dm-3 in the media did not influence on growth of seedlings. however, the mixture with 200 cm3 dm-3 of charcoal reduced production of total dry mass and high of the plants. the addition of pa (solution 20 cm3 dm-3) to the media reduced plant growth, and sprayed (solutions 5 and 10 cm3 dm-3) on the leaves reduced seedlings diameter.

Abstract: the authors present at the beginning, the evolution of the attack against t. infestans, main vector of chagas' disease in the state of s?o paulo (brazil). they stress that at first there was a decline in the density of these insects in the counties worked periodically. this decline in density was followed by the reduction of the infection rate, by t. cruzi and machado guerreiro positive reactions. when the conditions became suitable, pedreira de freitas' selective method was introduced, making possible the improvement of the spraying technique and capture as well as the amplification of the protected area. they consider that a control campaing of the domiciliary vectors of chagas' disease present different phases and they try to explain when and how, in some counties in the state of s?o paulo they reached the surveillance phase as preconized by emmanuel dias. a pilot area was established, where methods of work are being studied and people hired in the surveillance areas are being trained. finally, they show that t. sordida and p. megistus are not reacting satisfactorily to the present method of attack.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the agricultural potential of the ceveiro watershed piracicaba, sp, brazil, which contains 1990 ha considering available environmental conditions. medium and clayey textured ultisols and entisols predominate. land use was determined by remote sensing, the limits of the were digitalized and crossed with soils and shape data, using the environmental analysis system for agricultural planning. these results were then compared with the current land usage patterns that occurred in 1995, to determine if differences existed between current and prescribed land use. in 1995, 48% of the area was being used below its potential use, 27% used appropriately, and 23% used with excessive intensity. the main difference in land use between the appropriately used and excessively used areas was due to sugarcane production.
