Abstract: this work had as its major aim the hydroponic production of strawberries with the cooling of the nutrient solution, in jaboticabal - sp - brazil. the experiment was conducted in a covered greenhouse with a plastic film and seed transplantation achieved on january 9, 2002. two varieties of strawberries were evaluated: campinas and sweet charlie, both cultivated under the hydroponic system nft type with or without cooling the nutrient solution. the cooling of the nutrient solution at about 12 °c was in a heating exchange device. the sweet charlie variety presented the best results for both the average weight and number of pseudofruit, longitudinal average diameter, cross average diameter, average number of pseudofruit and productivity. the cooling of the nutrient solution confered greater number of pseudofruit collected and better productivity of sweet charlie variety. however, the cooling of the nutrient solution didn't cause any effects over the campinas variety.

Abstract: the use of biological reactor effluent in fertigation and use of dry swine waste as a component of the substrate, would lower the cost of production and prevent discarding residues in the environment. based on that, the objective of this research was to evaluate both yield and quality of pepper fruits, adopting the factorial scheme 4 x 3 in randomized blocks, with 4 substrates (s1, s2, s3 e s4) and 3 nutrient solutions: mineral nutrient solution (sn1), nutrient solution as based on biological reactor effluent boosted with mineral fertilizers (sn2) and nutrient solution based on biological reactor effluent (sn3). the different mixtures that yielded different substrate could be recommended for both fruit and quality production perspectives, except substrate 1 (s1), which revealed inferior quality of fruits. the use of sn1 permitted greater weight of the fruits, thickness of the pulp and productivity. partial substitution of fertilizers by biodigestor effluent of swine waste (sn2) was not sufficient to promote productivity equivalent to 100% mineral nutrient solution, however it reached mean index of productivity with standards of quality of fruits equivalent to the mineral solution (sn1). this supports the conclusion that the use of the biological reactor effluent would be an alternative in potential to reduce the cost of production of pepper crop and to prevent the discarding of this material, still rich in nutrients, into the environment.

Abstract: with the objective to use effluent of biodigestor in the hydroponic cultivation, an experiment was conducted in the department of rural engineering faculty of agricultural and veterenary sciences of unesp, campus of jaboticabal where a melon crop (cucumis melo l. cv. bonus no 2) was cultivated. the experimental design used was a randomized blocks, with 6 repetitions and the treatments studied were: 1) hydroponic cultivation in closed system type nft (nutrient film technique) with use of organic-mineral nutrient solution (biofertilizer with mineral complementation); 2) hydroponic cultivation in closed system type nft with use of 100% mineral solution; 3) hydroponic cultivation in open system, with substrate and organic-mineral nutrient solution and 4) hydroponic cultivation in an open system, with substrate and 100% mineral solution. the biofertilizer and the substrate were obtained from biodigestor effluent produced with cowdung. plant development in treatment 1 was affected due to accumulation of solid particles in the root system. treatment 2 provided to the plants rapid vegetative development and higher productivity. the fruits produced in treatment 2 presented higher weight, more elongated shape and higher total soluble solid content. a partial substitution of mineral fertilizers by biofertilizers showed viability of hydroponic cultivation of the melon plant in an open system with substrate.
Produ??o de minitubérculos básicos de batata em três sistemas hidrop?nicos

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the production of potato basic minitubers in three hydroponic systems: aeroponic, dft (deep flow technique) and nft (nutrient film technique), using cultivars agata and monalisa. the experiment was carried out under protected cultivation, from may to september, 2005, in jaboticabal, s?o paulo state, brazil, in a completely randomized block design, with split-plots. the hydroponic systems were assigned to the experimental plots, whereas cultivars were assigned to sub-plots. tuber fresh weight and longitudinal diameter were not influenced by the hydroponic systems, with average values of 6,2 g and 30,2 mm, 6,3 g and 30,0 mm, 6,8 g and 31,0 mm, for hydroponic systems nft, dft and aeroponic, respectively. between cultivars, monalisa presented larger longitudinal diameter and fresh mass (32,2 mm and 7,1 g), significantly superior when compared to agata (28,6 mm and 5,8 g). minituber yield per plant and m2 was significantly higher in the aeroponic system (49,3 e 874,4) in comparison the nft (39,5 e 246,6) and dft systems (41,6 e 458,0), respectively. results indicate that basic potato minitubers can be efficiently produced using the hydroponic systems evaluated in this work. among them, the aeroponic system presented the best results.

Abstract: the reutilization of nutrients after the fermentation of organic residue in the biodigestor, associated with a hydroponic cultivation technique, could be a new alternative to reduce costs in agriculture, as well as contributing to the reduction of consumption of the natural reserves of nutrients. the behavior of a melon plant culture with the utilization of the hydroponic technique and using the effluent of biodigestor proceeding from anaerobic fermentation of bovine manure was evaluated. melon plants were cultivated in protected environment. the statistical design was of randomized blocks, with four treatments (hydroponic cultivation in closed system type nft with the use of organic-mineral nutrient solution; hydroponic cultivation in closed system type nft with the use of the 100% mineral nutrient solution; cultivation in open system, with substrate and organic-mineral nutrient solution and cultivation in open system, with substrate and the 100% mineral nutrient solution) and 6 replications. height of plants was evaluated at 50; 56; 63; 70 and 77 days after sowing; time of harvest; weight of fruits and yield. the best responses were observed for hydroponic cultivation in closed system type nft using 100% mineral nutrient solution. the partial substitution of mineral fertilizers for biofertilizer, showed itself to be viable for the treatments in open system (with substrate).

Abstract: O reaproveitamento de nutrientes após a fermenta o de resíduos organicos em biodigestor, associado à técnica do cultivo hidrop nico, é uma alternativa para reduzir custos na agricultura, além de contribuir no menor consumo das reservas naturais de nutrientes do planeta. Com esse enfoque, estudou-se o comportamento da cultura do meloeiro usando a técnica hidrop nica e efluente de biodigestor proveniente da fermenta o anaeróbica de estrume bovino. Cultivou-se o meloeiro (Cucumis melo L. 'B nus 2') em condi es de ambiente protegido. O delineamento estatístico utilizado foi de blocos casualizados, com 4 tratamentos (cultivo hidrop nico em sistema fechado tipo NFT com uso de solu o nutritiva organo-mineral; cultivo hidrop nico em sistema fechado tipo NFT com uso de solu o nutritiva 100% mineral; cultivo em sistema aberto, com substrato e solu o nutritiva organo-mineral e cultivo em sistema aberto, com substrato e solu o nutritiva 100% mineral) e 6 repeti es. Foram realizadas avalia es quanto a altura de plantas aos 50; 56; 63; 70 e 77 dias após a semeadura; tempo de colheita; peso de frutos e produtividade. As melhores respostas foram observadas no cultivo hidrop nico em sistema fechado tipo NFT com uso de solu o nutritiva 100% mineral. A substitui o parcial de adubos minerais por biofertilizante, se mostrou viável para os tratamentos em sistema aberto (com substrato), constituindo-se em masi uma alternativa aos horticultores.

Abstract: aiming to evaluate the association of hydroponic lettuce cultivation with residues from a fish intensive breeding system, a project was carried out in the aquaculture center in the fcav-unesp at jaboticabal, sp, brazil. a closed system was designed in order to allow the water to circulate through the fish tanks, a clarifier tank for removal of residues, a reservoir for biological conversion of ammonia into nitrate, and the hydroponic system. after this process, water returned back to the fish tanks. three varieties of lettuce, constituting the treatments with four repetitions were evaluated. the results of the chemical analysis of the residual water from the fish tanks indicated the presence of the majority of the mineral nutrients necessary for vegetable development. their concentration was close to that found in nutrient solutions, used for lettuce hydroponic cultivation, except for potassium and magnesium. the low concentration of magnesium in the water did not prevent lettuce development, although the plants presented visual symptoms of deficiency of this nutrient. differences were not found between the varieties produced, regarding productivity and the mean weight of fresh plants.
Produtividade de tomate tipo cereja cultivado em ambiente protegido e em diferentes substratos

Abstract: the experiment was carry out in jaboticabal-sp, under a protected environment, aiming to evaluate four substrates of root development (substrates rendimax?, sand, soil with mulch of black polyethylene film and soil without mulch) and four hybrids of cherry tomato ('mascot', 'gisela', 'cheri' and 'sweet million'). the experimental design was a randomized complete blocks, in a factorial array (4 x 4), with four replications. the irrigation/fertigation was done with a trickle system, being the hydric dotation established based upon the measurements of the class a pan. the nutritious solution was recommended by castellane & araújo (1995) for tomato cropping. the fruits were harvested from 24/11 to 24/01, the number and daily productivity of fruits being appraised. the cultivations in soil provided higher production than in the commercial and sand substrates. the hybrid 'gisela' was shown to be more productive in the cultivations in soil, while the hybrid 'cheri', although it provided smaller productions in weight, produced larger number of fruits for plant. the productivity, of the most productive treatments was satisfactory, being in agreement with the production for the culture in brazil.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to compare the reference evapotranspiration (eto) estimated by the class a pan installed inside and outside the greenhouse, using two kp values. the experiment was conducted at the faculdade de ciências agrárias e veterinárias, campus de jaboticabal, brazil. two class a pans were installed, one inside and other outside the greenhouse. for the class a pan installed inside the greenhouse were used two kp values, kp = 0.7 and kp = 1.0. for the class a pan installed outside the greenhouse was used kp = 0.85. the value of the eto inside the greenhouse was lower when compared to the one outside the greenhouse. the results of this work showed the need of using the class a pan inside the greenhouse, using kp = 1.0.

Abstract: looking for the sustainability of a small farming enterprise, the present study focused the benefit of the biodigestor effluent resulting from the anaerobic fermentation of the bovine manure in a soilless melon plant experiment. the research was conducted in jaboticabal, in the state of sao paulo, brazil, at latitude of 21° 15- 22-- s and a longitude of 48° 18- 58-- w. the melon plant (cucumis melo l. cv bonus n° 2) was grown with substrate, seedling obtained in 10/2003. an experimental design was adapted in a randomized block with 16 treatments and 5 replications in a factorial 4 x 4 (4 substrates and 4 nutrient solutions). the 4 substrates were made up of different proportions in volume of the blend composition taking into consideration both the solid part of the biodigestor effluent and the washed raw sand. the 4 nutrient solutions were made up of the liquid part of the biodigestor effluent (biofertilizer) in substitution to the mineral water soluble fertilizers. the addition of the effluent in the sand led to a more rapid vegetative growth, a more precoceous crop with heavier fruits and a much better yield of melon crop. the mineral water soluble fertilizers used in the cultivation of plants in substrates can be partially replaced by the biofertilizer studied.
