Modo de conhecimento estético e mundo em Schopenhauer
Barboza, Jair;

Abstract: this text aims to show that the way of aesthetic knowledge in schopenhauer functions as a critic to the instrumetnal rationality of the science under the regency of the principle of suffciente reason.

Metafísica do irracional – mal radical em Schelling e Schopenhauer
Barboza, Jair
Veritas , 2009,
Abstract: Este artigo intenta mostrar as bases conceituais de uma metafísica do irracional em Schelling e Schopenhuaer, quando ambos os autores identificam na vontade a essência cega e irracional do mundo. This article aims to show the conceptual basis of a metaphysics of the irrational according to Schelling and Schopenhauer, when both autors identify in the will the blind and irrational essence of the world.
This text aims to show how the language conception of Schopenhauer implies a delimitation for the power of reason in the theory of knowledge. In other words, the investigation of language’s structure never can express the meaning of the world.

Counting words with Laguerre series
Jair Taylor
Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: We develop a method for counting words subject to various restrictions by finding a combinatorial interpretation for a product of weighted sums of Laguerre polynomials with parameter \alpha = -1. We describe how such a series can be computed by finding an appropriate ordinary generating function and applying a certain transformation. We use this technique to find the generating function for the number of k-ary words avoiding any vincular pattern that has only ones, as well as words cyclically avoiding vincular patterns with only ones whose runs of ones between dashes are all of equal length.
Chromatic Symmetric Functions of Hypertrees
Jair Taylor
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: The chromatic symmetric function $X_H$ of a hypergraph $H$ is the generating function for all colorings of $H$ so that no edge is monochromatic. When $H$ is an ordinary graph, it is known that $X_H$ is positive in the fundamental quasisymmetric functions $F_S$, but this is not the case for general hypergraphs. We exhibit a class of hypergraphs $H$ --- hypertrees with prime-sized edges --- for which $X_H$ is $F$-positive, and give an explicit combinatorial interpretation for the $F$-coefficients of $X_H$.
Ciência e racismo: uma leitura crítica de Ra?a e assimila??o em Oliveira Vianna
Ramos, Jair de Souza;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702003000200005
Abstract: the present article analyzes oliveira vianna's text race and assimilation, in which the author tried to build a scientific discourse on racial differences and their impact on the assimilation of immigrants. this discourse produced several texts that attributed a fundamental role to race as the cause for social phenomena at a time when anthropological racist views were falling behind due to cultural-oriented approaches. vianna's reactive arguments were based on the defense of a scientific concept of race as the key to the interpretation of society. at the end of the article, the author analyzes the correspondence vianna kept with arthur ramos and roquette-pinto on the scientific approaches demanded by racial studies, as well as on the political and administrative functions he attributed to science.
