Um Interessante Problema de Vestibular Envolvendo a N?o-Conserva??o da Energia Mecanica em um Referencial Acelerado

Abstract: the detailed solution of a problem originally proposed for a college-admission exam is discussed.the problem involves the oscillation of a mass-spring system in an initially accelerated referentialand the determination of the amplitude of vibration after the referential has reached the rest.we show that the value of this amplitude depends essentially on the relation between the timeof acceleration and the period of oscillation. in the limit case when the period of oscillation ismuch longer than the time of acceleration, the system approaches a conservative system and theanswer can be found by applying the principle of conservation of mechanical energy. the presentedproblem constitutes an interesting exercise for the discussion (at either high-school or college level)of subjects like fictitious forces, coordinates change, and non-conservation of mechanical energy innon-inertial reference systems.

Abstract: Discutimos detalhadamente a solu o de um problema originalmente proposto para um examevestibular, envolvendo a oscila o de um sistema massa-mola num referencial acelerado e a determina o da amplitude de oscila o a partir do instante em que cessa a acelera o do referencial.Mostramos que o valor dessa amplitude depende essencialmente da rela o entre o tempo duranteo qual permanece a acelera o do referencial e o período de oscila o. Na situa o limite em queo período de oscila o é muito maior do que o tempo de acelera o, o sistema aproxima-se de umsistema conservativo e a amplitude de oscila o pode ser determinada por conserva o da energiamecanica. O problema apresentado constitui um interessante exercício para a discuss o (em nívelmédio ou universitário) de temas como for as fictícias, mudan as de coordenadas e n o-conserva ode energia mecanica em referenciais n o-inerciais.

Efeitos do ácido silícico e do acibenzolar-S-methyl sobre Schizaphis graminum (Rondani) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) em plantas de trigo

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of silicon acid and acibenzolar-s-methyl (asm) on biology and behavior of the aphid (greenbug) in wheat plants. the experiment involved a 4 factorial (no silicon, silicon on leaf, silicon in the soil and silicon in the soil + on leaf), x 2 (with and without acibenzolar-s-methyl), in a completely randomized design. a preference test with chance of choice was set in blocks randomized, with 10 replications. silicon acid was used at 1% and asm at 0.5%. the treatments were evaluated by means of preference tests with chance of choice (adult aphids in leaf sections of wheat plants were counted), biological studies (length of pre-reproductive, reproductive and post-reproductive periods, mortality rate during the pre-productive period, number of nymphs, longevity and population growth rate were determined) and colonization of aphids (number of adult aphids and nymphs were determined). in the preference test, plants that received asm were not chosen by the aphids. the application of the silicon or asm reduced significantly the number of nymphs, the population growth rate, the post-reproductive period and the longevity of the greenbug. a significant reduction of the number of aphids was observed during aphids colonization when asm or silicon were applied. the addition of silicon acid, mostly in the soil, or of asm is promising as a control method in the integrated management of aphid in wheat.

Abstract: the cooperative learning is one of the learning models people are starting to use again in the classroom (although it had been discovered a long time ago). nevertheless the summit and benefits of this method have been widely demonstrated, people don't know very much about the way to implement it into the classroom nor the elements that should be considered for its implementation. this article presents some regards to be considered if we want to include this model into our teaching-learning process. in order to reach an effective cooperation, it is necessary to modify teachers' and students' roles as well, to make both actors participate more actively into the learning process.

Abstract: objective and method: mood disorders are the most prevalent psychiatric disorders. despite new insights and advances on the neurobiological basis and therapeutic approaches for bipolar disorders and recurrent depression, elevated prevalence of recurrence, persistent sub-syndromal symptoms and treatment resistance are challenging aspects and need to be urgently addressed. the objective of this literature review is to evaluate the current concepts of treatment resistance and refractoriness in mood disorders. results: genetic factors, misdiagnosis, use of inappropriate pharmacological approaches, non-compliance and biological/psychosocial stressors account for dysfunctions in mood regulation, thus increasing the prevalence of refractory mood disorders. regarding available treatments, the use of effective doses during an adequate period followed by augmentation with a second and/or third agent, and finally switching to other agent are steps frequently necessary to optimize efficacy. however, in the treatment-resistant paradigm, drugs mimicking standard strategies, which target preferentially the monoaminergic system, can present reduced therapeutic effects. thus, the search for new effective treatments for mood disorders is critical to decreasing the overall morbidity secondary to treatment resistance. conclusion: emerging strategies targeting brain plasticity pathways or 'plasticity enhancers', including antiglutamatergic drugs, glucocorticoid receptor antagonists and neuropeptides, have been considered promising therapeutic options for difficult-to-treat mood disorders.
