Comparison of the Water Quality between the Surface Microlayer and Subsurface Water in Typical Water Bodies in Sichuan  [PDF]

Abstract: Investigation and assessment of water quality status in the surface microlayer (SML) and subsurface water (SSW) in several kinds of typical water bodies in Sichuan were carried out from May to June 2010.The results showed that N, P were enriched to some extent at SML in Xichi pool, Funan River and Longquan reservoir, which made concentrations of the indexes such as total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), chemical oxygen demand (COD)of SML be much higher than those of SSW (P<0.05), and the exceeding rates were up to 100%. The contents of TN,TP,COD of SML and SSW in Xichi pool, and Funan River exceeded III even Ⅳlevel of water quality standard, while these indexes in Longquan reservoir were lower than Ⅲ or Ⅱlevel of water quality standard. Though Chl. a mass concentration at SML and SSW in Funan River was prominently lower than those in Xichi pool and Longquan reservoir, according to the eutrophic evaluation standard, the water bodies of SML and SSW in Funan River and Xichi pool were in middle eutrophication, the highest index of eutrophication (E value) was up to 66.78, while there was light entuophic in Longquan reservoir, and there had obvious difference with E value and COD, TP, TN (P<0.05). This research shows that the water quality of Longquan reservoir is generally well. While Funan River is a middle eutrophication, and its pollution is more serious than Xichi pool, the two waters belong to national III even IV level, and SML has the capability of enrichment to the pollutants such as N, P.
Comparative Performance and Computational Approach of Humic Acid Removal by Clay Adsorption  [PDF]

Abstract: The effective removal of humic acid is an important factor influencing the quality of treated waters. Adsorption is one of major techniques used for the removal of humic acid. This study demonstrated that modified clays could be used as alternatives to activated carbons for adsorbing humic acid. Both Al-Fe modified and Fe modified clays had high affinity to humic acid and then high removal efficiency. Al-modified clay had less removal capacity for adsorbing humic acid. Mathematics formulas were developed to predict the adsorption performance of modified clays for the humic acid removal via the parameters of UV254 absorbance and DOC concentrations. The optimal clay dose could be predicted using the developed model. The F test was used to validate the model developed by examining if it fells into the reject field. The reject field varied according to each F test. The results showed that the model developed was 99% confident and can be used to perform the simulation.

Abstract: The UHVDC transmission line transports large-capacity power, and its safety operation has very important rule on the safe operation of grid. Currently, in the DC transmission system, the earthing electrode line has the functions of ground potential fixing and bipolar imbalance current circulation during the operation of bipolar balance. Therefore the monitoring to the earthing electrode line operation is very essential. This article firstly introduced the current situation of the research on the earthing electrode line fault location method, then built the relevant PSCAD/EMTDC model for simulation verification of the current using Time Domain Reflectometry for the UHVDC earthing electrode line, and at last analyzed the reasons for the formation of the blind monitoring zones.
Calculation and Empirical Analysis on the Contributions of R&D Spending and Patents to China’s Economic Growth  [PDF]

Abstract: Based on the national data from 1995 to 2014, we develop an extended C-D production function model alongside with the Solow growth rate equation to investigate contributions of R&D expenditures and patents to China’s GDP respectively. Results indicate that: 1) both R&D expenditures and patents granted are significantly positive correlated with GDP and the growing output elasticity to GDP is in leaps and bounds after 2000 and 2005; 2) comparing to patents granted, R&D expenditures account for a higher share of contribution to economic growth and the both shares show a fluctuating downward trend; 3) the output elasticity of labor is significantly higher than other factors, signaling capital saving technical progress in China. The elasticity coefficient of scientific-technical progress to GDP is small. Nevertheless, its influence is gradually increasing and the intensive economic growth transformation has formed. Some policy implications are distilled after empirical analysis. R&D application, transformation and related incentive mechanism should be improved. Besides, the fields of R&D funding should be adjusted to further coordinate the relationship between the structure of R&D expenditures and the industrial structure.
Equilibrium Points and Periodic Orbits in the Vicinity of Asteroids with an Application to 216 Kleopatra

Abstract: In this study, equilibrium points and periodic orbits in the potential field of asteroids are investigated. We present the linearized equations of motion relative to the equilibrium points and characteristic equations. We find that the distribution of characteristic multipliers of periodic orbits around the equilibrium point and the distribution of eigenvalues of the equilibrium point correspond to each other. The distribution of eigenvalues of the equilibrium point confirms the topology and the stability of periodic orbits around the equilibrium point.
A Multi-Agent School Simulation Based on Hierarchical Social Networks  [PDF]

The quality of K-12 education has been a very big concern for years. Previous methods studied only one or two factors, such as school choice, or teacher quality, on school performance. Therefore the results they provide can be limited. We propose a multi-agent approach to integrate multiple actors in a school system. These actors include teachers, students, supporting staffs and administrators. The interactions among these actors compose a hierarchical school social network. We first detect the hierarchical community structure in this school network by using an agglomerative hierarchical algorithm. Existing agglomerative hierarchical algorithms usually calculate similarity or dissimilarity between two clusters by using some measure of distance between pairs of observations. We, however, develop a method that calculates similarity based on social interactions between interactions is essential in multi-agent systems. Our algorithm is applied to 15 school districts in Bexar County, Texas, and it provides satisfying results on generating the hierarchical structure of all school districts. We then use the detected structure of the social network to evaluate the school system’s organization performance. We design and implement a funding evaluation model to decompose the funding policy task into subtasks and then evaluate these subtasks by using funding distribution policies from past years and looking for possible relationships between student performances and funding policies. Experiments in the 15 school districts in Bexar County show no significant correlation between student performance and the amount of the funding a school district received.

A Novel Integrated Circuit Driver for LED Lighting  [PDF]

Abstract: A novel integrated circuit for driving LED lighting has been proposed, designed and fabricated. Besides the typical parts of LED driver, an integral part was added at the output terminal of error amplifier in the driver. In this way, a novel average current mode can be set up to take the place ordinary peak current control mode. In addition, a BUCK low-level topology was adopted, too. It can be used to drive up to eight 1 W HB LED lights with 350 mA constant current. In this way, the LED driver displays high performance, in which output current with less 1% error and total efficiency as high as 96%. The feasibility of the design has been verified by actual measurement on the fabricated chip.

Abstract: It is widely believed that the matter created in p-p collisions exhibits a similar collective behavior as that formed in heavy ion collisions. In this paper, by taking into account the effects of thermal motion, the transverse momentum distributions of identified charged particles are discussed in the scope of the hydrodynamic model including phase transition. The theoretical model gives a good description to the data collected in p-p collisions at LHC energies for the transverse momentum up to about \"\" .

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the potential antidepressive-like effect of tetramethylpyrazine (TMP), one of available blood-activating and stasis-eliminating components from traditional Chinese medicines, and its mechanism of the antidepressant-like action. Forced-swimming, tail-suspension, reserpine-induced hypothermia, akinesia and ptosis, 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP)-induced head-twitch, and potentiation of noradrenaline (NE) toxicity tests, were per-formed to assess the potential antidepressant-like activity of TMP and to study the mechanism by which TMP exerts the antidepressant-like action. Intragastric (ig) administration of TMP markedly reduced the duration of immobility during forced-swimming tests and tail-supension test in rats and mice. TMP partialy reversed reserpine-induced hypothermia, ptosis and akinesia, and potentiated NE toxicity in mice, and these are similar to those of clomipramine; however, TMP did not potentiate 5-HTP-induced head-twitch response (HTR) in mice, and this is different from that of fluoxetine (FLU). The present data provide evidences that TMP possesses potent antidepressant-like activity, and it might be an adrenergic component of pharmacological activity, and its mechanism of antidepressant-like action is similar to that of clomipramine, and different from that of FLU.

Abstract: In order to solve the deficiencies of the prior detection method on QDQ2-1 type water electrolysis hydrogen equipment, the key state parameters of hydrogen plant, such as hydrogen storage pressure, the operating voltage and the temperature of the tank, can be monitored in remote online by making full use of modern communications technology and data collection [1]. Once the hydrogen plant is abnormal, the alarm can be issued in time. The multi-point real-time automatic monitoring [2] mode can be realized in the hydrogen production process. The safe operation of hydrogen production work can be greatly improved by the advanced monitoring mode.
