Abstract: the text analyzes and discusses mário de andrade's critical contribution to the relation between music, culture and literature, particularly poetry. andrade's intellectual production is characterized by a constant search for an understanding of the meaning of art, culture and brazil, through the creation of what might be called a polyphonic view. his studies and essays on music, together with his keen interest in anthropology and ethnography, left deep marks in his fiction, as a reading of a chapter from macunaíma shows clearly.
Applications of flow cytometry to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Voltarelli, Júlio C;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02762000000300018
Abstract: applications of flow cytometry to clinical and experimental hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (hsct) are discussed in this review covering the following topics: diagnosis and classification of lymphohematologic disorders, quantitation of hematopoietic progenitors in the graft, lymphohematopoietic reconstitution following hsct and animal models of human hsct. at the end, the utilization of flow cytometry in clinical hsct by brazilian transplant centers is briefly reviewed.
A violência escolar e a crise da autoridade docente
Aquino, Júlio Groppa;
Cadernos CEDES , 1998, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-32621998000400002
Abstract: the present article intends to discuss the relationship between the concepts of violence and authority within school context nowadays and, mainly, within teacher-student relationship. for that purpose, it proposes an institutional approach of school violence opposed to the classical approaches of the subject in focus, demonstrating the thesis according to which there is an amount of "productive" violence enclosed in the pedagogical action.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for autoimmune diseases in Brazil: current status and future prospectives
Voltarelli, Júlio C.;
Revista Brasileira de Hematologia e Hemoterapia , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-84842002000300007
Abstract: in this paper, we discuss the launching of a cooperative protocol of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for autoimmune diseases in brazil. we present specific conditions of the country's health system which would affect the trial, preliminary results of the first nine patients transplanted under the protocol (4 systemic lupus, 3 multiple sclerosis, one systemic sclerosis and one overlapping lupus + systemic sclerosis) and future prospectives of organizing phase iii randomized trials to answer specific scientific questions pending in the field.
Transplante de células tronco hematopoéticas para doen?as auto-imunes no Brasil
Voltarelli, Júlio C.;
Revista Brasileira de Hematologia e Hemoterapia , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-84842002000100003
Abstract: hematopoietic stem cell transplantation presents a solid basis to be indicated for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. in this work data related to the procedure and the sequence of events which have contributed to the implantation of a brazilian protocol are discussed. included is a discussion of the autogenic procedure using uniform mobilization regimens with cyclophosphamide 2g/m2 plus granulocyte-colony stimulation factor and particular conditioning for systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis and multiple sclerosis. the formerly described entities were chosen for the beginning of a cooperative protocol after wide-ranging debates which took place both in ribeir?o preto and san francisco, usa.
Transplante de células-tronco hematopoéticas no diabete melito do tipo I
Voltarelli, Júlio C.;
Revista Brasileira de Hematologia e Hemoterapia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-84842004000100008
Abstract: autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ahsct) for severe and refractory autoimmune diseases has been performed since 1996 with encouraging results. in general, two thirds of the patients achieve durable remissions, although morbidity and mortality related to transplantation or to relapse and progression of autoimmune diseases are still significant. based on those results and on beneficial effects of moderate immunosuppression on the course of type i insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (dm-i), we started in december 2003 a clinical protocol of ahsct for this disease, in cooperation with the northwestern university, chicago, university of miami and the national institutes of health. under 35-year-old patients with <6 weeks from diagnosis or at the asymptomatic phase ("honey moon") of the disease have their hematopoietic stem cells mobilized with cyclophosphamide (2 g/m2) and g-csf, collected from peripheral blood collected and cryopreserved. after conditioning with cyclophosphamide (200 mg/kg) and rabbit anti-thymocyte globulin (4.5 mg/kg) and infusion of ahsc, the patients are followed for 5 years in regards to clinical, endocrinological and immunological aspects of the disease. this clinical study may represent an important contribution of the brazilian bone marrow transplantation community to the modern era of cell therapy for inflammatory and degenerative diseases.
Trends of tactical performance analysis in team sports: bridging the gap between research, training and competition.
Garganta,Júlio;
Revista Portuguesa de Ciências do Desporto , 2009,
Abstract: performance in team sports is carried out through a long term and methodical training process planned to improve skills and competence required to deal with competitive demands. despite that tactical constraint play a major role in team sports performance the history of its scientific analysis has been driven by physiological and biomechanical approach, paying little attention to the tactical behaviour of the players and team organisation. for coaches and researchers, tactical analyses can be helpful, since they offer the opportunity to identify match regularities and random features of game events. the information about performance is crucial to achieve individual and team efficacy, also because it constitutes a basic criterion for training process. once tactical major features are identified, they can inform training and performance enhancement programs. regardless the technological progress, the analysis of tactical performance in team sports remains an under-theorised field, since there was no significant amount of research undertaken to identify the most important factors underpinning performance. thus, it seems relevant to find out concepts and methods allowing to assemble and to organise knowledge about game complexity and dynamic interaction properties of the teams. the main purpose of this paper is to point out that conceptual frame about tactical indicators in team sports should be a major orientation to bridge the gap between research, training and competition.
