Taenia solium metacestode immunodominant peptides recognized by IgG antibodies in cerebrospinal fluid and serum paired samples from patients with active and inactive neurocysticercosis

Abstract: the aim of this study was to test if serological distinction between patients with active and inactive neurocysticercosis (ncc), could be accomplished by the recognition of immunodominant peptides in total saline antigenic extract of taenia solium metacestodes by igg antibody in cerebrospinal fluid (csf) and serum paired samples. csf and serum samples of 10 each, active ncc patients, inactive ncc, and individuals with other neurological disorders, were used to recognize the antigenic peptides by western blot (wb). in the active ncc the 28-32 and 39-42 kda peptides were more frequently detected in csf than in sera (p < 0.05). the 47-52, 64-68, and 70 kda antigens showed high frequencies in both samples from patients with active ncc. all the csf samples of inactive ncc and other neurological disorder (control) patients tested negative, while serum samples from these last two groups recognized mainly the 80, 86, 95, and 98 kda bands. this finding eliminates the use of the high molecular weigh bands (> 80 kda) for diagnosis of ncc. the final conclusions were that the difference between active and inactive ncc may be done with the detection of peptides only in the csf samples and that the 47-52, 64-68, and 70 kda bands may be included as specific markers for active ncc when detected in csf samples by wb using total saline extract of t. solium metacestode.
Use of the paired samples (cerebrospinal fluid and serum) in immunodiagnostic of active and inactive human neurocysticercosis

Abstract: paired samples of cerebrospinal fluid (csf) and serum of 30 patients - 10 with active, 10 with inactive neurocysticercosis (ncc), and 10 control subjects - were evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (elisa) using two taenia crassiceps metacestode extracts as antigen in order to detect igg antibodies. in active ncc, high levels of igg were detected (p < 0.05). the csf samples showed 80% (ci 72-88) of reactivity in the saline extract (s) and 90% (ci 84-95) in sodium dodecyl sulphate (sds) and the serum samples were reactive in 90% (ci 84-95) and 100% (ci 98-100) in the s and sds antigenic extracts, respectively. the use of the paired samples of csf and serum in active ncc showed equivalent results suggesting that the serum samples could be used as a screening in those patients whose csf puncture is counter-indicated.
Genetic polymorphism in Taenia solium metacestodes from different Brazilian geographic areas

Abstract: the aim of the present study is to investigate genetic polymorphisms in taenia solium metacestodes from different brazilian geographical areas and to relate them to antibody recognition in serum samples of neurocysticercosis (nc) patients. metacestodes were obtained from the distrito federal (df), bahia, minas gerais (mg) and s?o paulo (sp) regions of brazil. samples of human sera from 49 individuals with nc, 68 individuals with other helminthiasis and 40 healthy volunteers were analysed (157 individuals in total). antigens were prepared and used in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and western blotting assays to detect specific immunoglobulin g antibodies. genetic distances between metacestode populations were analysed using random amplified polymorphic dna (rapd) analysis. our results show that there was a higher frequency of reactivity in the df region in the sera from nc patients (p < 0.05), while discrimination between active and inactive nc was seen only in extracts from the mg and sp regions (p < 0.05). using rapd, the sample from the df region presented a greater increase compared to the other regions. a relationship between genetic polymorphisms among t. solium metacestodes from different areas in brazil and the differences in antibody detection in patients with nc were established.
Western blotting using Strongyloides ratti antigen for the detection of IgG antibodies as confirmatory test in human strongyloidiasis

Abstract: The present study was conducted to evaluate the frequency of antigenic components recognized by serum IgG antibodies in Western blotting (WB) using a Strongyloides ratti larval extract for the diagnosis of human strongyloidiasis. In addition, the WB results were compared to the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and the indirect immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT) results. Serum samples of 180 individuals were analyzed (80 with strongyloidiasis, 60 with other intestinal parasitoses, and 40 healthy individuals). S. ratti was obtained from fecal culture of experimentally infected Rattus rattus. For IFAT, S. ratti larvae were used as antigen and S. ratti larval antigenic extracts were employed in WB and ELISA. Eleven S. ratti antigenic components were predominantly recognized by IgG antibodies in sera of patients with strongyloidiasis. There was a positive concordance for the three tests in 87.5% of the cases of strongyloidiasis. The negative concordance in the three tests was 94% and 97.5%, in patients with other intestinal parasitoses and healthy individuals, respectively. In cases of positive ELISA and negative IFAT results, diagnosis could be confirmed by WB. ELISA, IFAT, and WB using S. ratti antigens showed a high rate of sensitivity and specificity. In conclusion, WB using S. ratti larval extract was able to recognize 11 immunodominant antigenic components, showing to be a useful tool to define the diagnosis in cases of equivocal serology.

Abstract: the remaining of piercing in intraoperative can cause damages. this paper had as purpose defining the nursing interventions in the intraoperative and evaluates the complications caused by piercing in the intraoperative. this literature review had 16 articles published from 1994 to 2006. nine articles (56.2%) were about nursing interventions in the intraoperative, four (25.0%) were concerning complications in the intraoperative and three (18.8%) were about the use of piercing in the intraoperative, not presenting complications. we concluded that wearing oral piercing in the intraoperative increases the risk of swallowing and injuries. furthermore, wearing body jewelry can cause injuries on the skin during the patient′s moving and burns after electrosurgery. therefore, it is necessay to withdraw the piercing in the preoperative.
Análise do potencial turístico nas regi es administrativas (RAs) de Campo Grande e Guaratiba zona oeste do Município do Rio de Janeiro (Brasil)

Abstract: Este trabajo es una síntesis de la disertación del posgrado desarrollada en dos áreas Administrativas (RAs) de la zona oeste de la Municipalidad de Río de Janeiro que son: RA de Campo Grande y RA de Guaratiba. Sus objetivos principales fueron: evaluar el desarrollo y el potencial de las actividades turísticas presentes en esas dos RAs, usándose las técnicas del geoprocesamiento; y proponer las pautas generales para su aplicación. El análisis de los resultados principales fue hecho de una manera individualizada, considerando que se trata de RAs con realidades distintas, a pesar de su proximidad geográfica. En este proceso, era evidente la necesidad, a corto plazo, de mayor planificación municipal y estatal en la distribución y caracterización del espacio reservado a la expansión urbana. La evaluación del potencial turístico también vino a mostrar las diferencias significantes entre los procesos de ocupación de esos dos RAs, además de la naturaleza de las actividades a ser implementadas a fin de aprovechar todo ese potencial.
Cartografia social das crian as e adolescentes ribeirinhas/quilombolas da Amaz nia

Abstract: A cartografia social, como meio técnico, busca registrar relatos e as representa es sócio-espaciais no processo de auto mapeamento, além de identificar situa es de conflitos na forma de uso do território pelas comunidades tradicionais. A confec o de mapas situacionais com crian as e adolescentes ribeirinhas e quilombolas apresentou tra os singulares entre a pluralidade identitária, tais como as formas de intera o com o meio ambiente, a atividade produtiva da família e a luta por acesso a educa o. Tal processo se insere numa dinamica mais geral da vida envolta pela natureza Amaz nica e das dificuldades de assegurar a reprodu o social do grupo. Nesse caso, a territorialidade desses grupos, particularmente, expressa as rela es socioculturais que s o apontados e redesenhadas pelas próprias crian as e adolescentes nos mapas situacionais. No desenvolvimento deste artigo trataremos da representa o social do território das crian as e adolescentes dos municípios paraenses de Abaetetuba, Cametá, Mocajuba, Limoeiro do Ajuru e Igarapé Mirí, todos localizados no baixo rio Tocantins, regi o atingida pela Barragem da Hidrelétrica de Tucuruí. Na confec o do mapa situacional, do ponto de vista técnico, quatro etapas processuais foram adotadas: produ o de croquis, georeferenciamento dos elementos socioculturais, adapta o gráficas dos croquis e a confec o final do mapa. O uso da cartografia social pelos movimentos sociais tem se firmado na capacidade de instrumentalizar a contra argumenta o política, principalmente, na medida em que avan am os interesses de agentes externos sobre os seus territórios de uso tradicional, além de adotar o produto da cartografia social como documento de reivindica o de políticas públicas, de planejamento e de base para a autogest o do território.

Abstract: Os efeitos ben ficos que o consumo da linha §a proporcionam sa ode s £o decorrentes da presen §a de subst ¢ncias bioativas, em especial os cidos graxos polinsaturados (Omega 3 e Omega 6), compostos fen 3licos e fi bras. O presente trabalho teve por objetivos: verificar a influ ancia da linha §a nas caracter -sticas qu -micas de p £es de forma; comparar os r 3tulos nutricionais dos p £es com as diferentes quantidades de linha §a adicionadas aos mesmos e analisar as conseq ancias de se expressar a composi § £o qu -mica dos produtos conforme estabelecido pela RDC 359 e RDC 360 para a elabora § £o dos r 3tulos nutricionais dos alimentos. As concentra § μes de semente de linha §a marrom testadas foram: 0%, 3%, 6% e 9%. Os p £es de forma foram preparados na planta de panifi ca § £o experimental da escola Senai a€ M rio Dedinia€ de Piracicaba e as an lises qu -micas foram realizadas no Laborat 3rio de Bromatologia da ESALQ/USP. O p £o com 9% de linha §a apresentou a maior quantidade de gorduras mono e poliinsaturadas. A rela § £o Omega 3:6 tamb m foi maior para a amostra com 9% de linha §a sendo que a propor § £o desses nutrientes foi de 1:1 por por § £o de 25 g. A gordura trans n £o foi identifi cada em nenhum dos produtos estudados.

Abstract: lankesterella alencari n. sp. a sporozoa that occur in the blood and cns of the south american frog leptodactylus acellatus is described. since the tissue forms of this parasite have been previously reported as belonging to the genus toxoplasma, we attempted in fection of 2 species of amphibia (bufo marinus an dleptodactylus ocellatus) with a toxoplasma strain of human origen; inoculation was by intraperitoneal injection of parasite-containing ascitic fluid from infected mice. attempt of experimental inoculation of the parasite found in the cns of l. ocellatus in a highly susceptible host (mice) was unsuccessful. these results suggest that toxoplasma does not occur naturally in the amphibia; be related to toxoplasma is excluded. the following genera of haematozoa found in brazilian amphibia have been considered briedfly: haemobartonella, cytamoeba, dactylosoma, hepatozoon and trypanosoma.
