Abstract: background: postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (csf) fistula is the most serious complication after transsphenoidal surgery. objective: to analyze the incidence of csf fistula after endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery for tumor removal in sellar region; to discuss associated factors and methods used for sellar closure. method: retrospective study of 67 patients (73 surgeries) operated via transsphenoidal endoscopy at hospital vall d'hebron and hospital clinic of the universidad de barcelona, spain. the data collected included: age, sex, hospitalization stay, suprasellar extension of the lesion, type of tumor, evidence of intraoperative csf fistula, complications of postoperative csf fistula, previous surgery and radiotherapy. results: six patients (8.2%) had postoperative csf fistula, and their average hospitalization was 5 days longer with resulting complications: two of whom had pneumoencephalus and two with meningitis. no association was found between the data collected and postoperative csf fistula. conclusion: the rate of csf fistula after endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery from the present study is contained within the literature. unlike other reports, no association between the variables and postoperative csf fistula was found in this report.

Abstract: qualitative research, with the objective to diagnose the formation of search into abilities in the nursing course at the pará state university in 1999.the sample was 42 pupils and ten professors. for the collect of data, was use half structurized interview and the questionnaire whose answers had been submitted the analysis of contents, generating two thematic categories. the results had demonstration that the course does not propitiates the development of the investigative acquirement, because the pupils are not motivate, education is technicality and not arrange the investigative component; the works carried through for the pupils are unprovided of scientific severity; the majority of the professors presents unconsciously investigative scientific formation to apply exercise of teach-learning to possibility obtaiment. it is concluded that the investigative abilities construct in multiple ways, been necessary, in first place, to explore and to stimulate the taste for the enquire in the professors and pupils, making this activity proselytize them perpetual apprentices in investigative practices.
The Basic Idea behind the Relativistic and the Quantum Concepts  [PDF]

Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2016.71015
Abstract: A new aspect of unification is presented in this paper. This aspect depends on two postulates of our recent theory concerning light propagation in a specific medium. The special theory of relativity is demonstrated as a reflection of our first postulate, regarding the existence of multiple, equivalent rest frames in our medium. The second postulate is concerned with energy forms in nature, and it deals with the quantum behavior of light and wave behavior of matter. By using this postulate, we are able to justify the existence of these two phenomena. As a consequence of this, gravity as described by general relativity is unified as a background-independent interaction under the same postulate.
Spacetime Discreteness: Shedding Light on Two of the Simplest Observations in Physics  [PDF]
Ahmed Isam
Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2018.97086
Abstract: Loop quantum gravity is considered to be one of the two major candidates for a theory of quantum gravity. The most appealing aspect about this theory is it predicts that spacetime is not continuous; both space and time have a discrete nature. Simply, space is not infinitely divisible, but it has a granular structure, and time does not flow continuously like a smooth river. This paper demonstrates a review for two missed (unnoted) observations that support the discreteness of the spacetime. The content of this paper does not validate the specific model of quantized geometry of the spacetime which is predicted by the theory itself. Instead, it proves that time does not flow continuously. But it flows in certain, discrete steps, like a ticking of a clock, due to a simple observation which is absence of any possible value of time that can exist between the present and the future. Regarding space, it validates the spatial discreteness, and the existence of spatial granules (space quanta) due to a simple observation which is the existence of the origin position in a coordinates system. All of this is achieved by reviewing the concept of discreteness itself, and applied directly to the observations.

Abstract: most of the snakebites recorded in brazil are caused by the bothrops genus. given that the local tissue damage caused by this genus cannot be treated by antivenom therapy, numerous studies are focusing on supplementary alternatives, such as the use of medicinal plants. serjania erecta has already demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and healing properties. in the current study, the aerial parts of s. erecta were extracted with methanol, then submitted to chromatographic fractionation on a sephadex lh20 column and eluted with methanol, which resulted in four main fractions. the crude extract and fractions neutralized the toxic activities of bothrops jararacussu snake venom and isolated myotoxins (bthtx-i and ii). results showed that phospholipase a2, fibrinogenolytic, myotoxic and hemorrhagic activities were inhibited by the extract. moreover, the myotoxic and edematous activities induced by bthtx-i, and phospholipase a2 activity induced by bthtx-ii, were inhibited by the extract of s. erecta and its fraction. the clotting time on bovine plasma was significantly prolonged by the inhibitory action of fractions sf3 and sf4. this extract is a promising source of natural inhibitors, such as flavonoids and tannins, which act by forming complexes with metal ions and proteins, inhibiting the action of serineproteases, metalloproteases and phospholipases a2.

Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132009000700022
Abstract: the study of xylanase production was conducted by streptomyces viridosporus t7a in submerged (smf) and solid-state fermentation (ssf), using agro-industrial residues and sub-products. napier grass, sugarcane bagasse and soybean bran were used as carbon source, substrate/support, and nitrogen source, respectively. in smf, napier grass (1% v/w) supplemented with soybean bran, hydroxyethylcellulose and b complex vitamins were used. soybean bran (1.5 % w/v), b complex vitamins (0.1%), and hydroxyethilcellulose (0.15%) led to an increase in xylanase production (23.41 u/ml). in ssf, the effects of the following parameters were studied: substrate composition (sugarcane bagasse, napier grass and soybean bran), initial moisture, and inoculum rate. in ssf, the highest xylanase activity (423.9 u/g) was reached with: 70 % sugarcane bagasse, 20% napier grass and 10% soybean meal, 90% of moisture, and 107/g substrate.
