Children with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus and their friends: the influence of this interaction in the management of the disease
Sparapani, Valéria de Cássia;Borges, Ana Luiza Vilela;Dantas, Isa Ribeiro de Oliveira;Pan, Raquel;Nascimento, Lucila Castanheira;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692012000100016
Abstract: friends' support is a key element in the management of type 1 diabetes mellitus. this study describes the influence of friends on the lives of children with diabetes mellitus and its implications for managing the disease. empirical data were collected through semi-structured interviews, supported with the use of puppets, with 19 children aged between seven and 12 years old. the qualitative analysis of the testimonies allowed understanding the phenomenon from two perspectives: the attitude of friends towards the child, positively or negatively affecting the disease's management, and the attitude of the child toward friends. the knowledge of those involved and the interaction between the children with dm1 and their friends impacts the management of the disease. understanding the implications of these interactions contributes to the delivery of qualified nursing care to this population.
Little-Parks oscillations near a persistent current loop
Rodolpho Ribeiro Gomes,Isaías G. de Oliveira,Mauro M. Doria
Physics , 2012, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevB.85.144512
Abstract: We investigate the Little-Parks oscillations caused by a persistent current loop set on the top edge of a mesoscopic superconducting thin-walled cylinder with a finite height. For a short cylinder the Little-Parks oscillations are approximately the same ones as the standard effect, as there is only one magnetic flux piercing the cylinder. For a tall cylinder the inhomogeneity of the magnetic field makes different magnetic fluxes pierce the cylinder at distinct heights and we show here that this produces two distinct Little-Parks oscillatory regimes according to the persistent current loop. We show that these two regimes, and also the transition between them, are observable in current measurements done in the superconducting cylinder. The two regimes stem from different behavior along the height, as seen in the order parameter, numerically obtained from the Ginzburg-Landau theory through the finite element method

Abstract: background: heart failure (hf) is associated with frequent decompensation and admissions to the emergency service. influenza (inf) and pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccinations are recommended in the guidelines, however, respiratory infections are the third leading cause of hospitalization in heart failure. objective: to assess the frequency of vaccination against inf and pnm in patients with hf in government healthcare units. methods: an observational study carried out in teresópolis, a mountain region in rio de janeiro, employed three strategies: (i) study of requests for vaccine against inf and/or pnm in the health department of teresópolis between 2004 and 2006; (ii) direct inquiry to 61 patients with heart failure treated in primary care about their vaccination status against inf and pnm; (iii) direct inquiry about their vaccination status against inf and pnm to 81 patients with decompensated chronic heart failure treated in the only emergency service open to the public. results: in strategy i, inf and/or pnm vaccination was 15.3% of those with indications for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. the median time between indication and vaccination was 32 days. in strategy ii, the percentage of patients vaccinated against inf, aged > 60, was 23.1% and 24.6% against pmn at all ages. in strategy iii, the percentage of patients vaccinated against inf was 35.8% and against pnm was 2.5%. conclusion: the rate of vaccination against inf and pnm in patients with hf is very low and even lower in those with decompensated hf treated in emergency services.
Notas sobre dois livros de MacIntyre
Oliveira, Isabel Ribeiro de;
Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64452005000100008
Abstract: the central concepts of macintyre's approach to justice - practice, narrative and tradition - constitute the main trust of the analysis of two of his books: after virtue and whose justice? which rationality? the article elaborates on the relationship of ethics to history, of virtues to relativism as well as his conception of the self as correctives to the pervasive anomie in contemporary societies.

A brancura institucionalizada: uma estratégia dos gêneros discursivos denominados de rótulos = The institutionalized whiteness: a strategy of discourse genres called label
Mirian Ribeiro de Oliveira
Acta Scientiarum : Language and Culture , 2010,
This article aims to analyze the speeches institutionalized by the industry of beauty and aesthetics as discursive tools that meet the logic of legitimizing identity. The paper attempts to establish the saying as true, causing a chain of meaning that discriminates not only products, as people, contributing to the standard of whiteness. It also intends to discuss the relations of power as category of circulation exercised by individuals.

Anuário do Instituto de Geociências , 2007,
Abstract: Araripe Basin is worldwide famous by diverse and exquisitely well preserved fossil assemblages in antana Formation. This lithostratigraphic unit is subdivided into three members: Crato, Ipubi and Romualdo. Up to date six species of turtles are known: Araripemys barretoi Price, 1973; Santanachelys gaffneyi, Hirayama,1998; Brasilemys josai Lapparent de Broin, 2000; Cearachelys placidoi Gaffney, Campos & Hirayama, 2001, Euraxemys essweini Gaffney, Tong & Meylan, 2006 and Caririemys violetae Oliveira & Kellner, 2007.Taphonomical features of turtles from Crato and Romualdo members are presents here. One specimen was examined in the Crato lagerst tte, (MN 4893-V) Araripemys sp. (partial skull, axial and apendicular skeleton). This exemplar is preserved in light-beige colored laminated limestone from the Crato Member. Three specimenswere analized (MN 6743-V, MN 6744-V and MN 6760-V) in the Romualdo lagerst tte, the two first are Araripemys barretoi specimens (shell and cervical vertebrae) and the later is a Cearachelys placidoi specimen (fragmented shell). They are preserved in calcareous nodules. No data of collection of these specimens areavailable, however are possible to infer on aspects of preservation of these exemplares, since that these are preserved in the original sedimentary matrix. All specimens have shown the surface of bones without abrasion, what it allows to infer these turtles as autocthonous.
